⇨ THE SUMMERLANDS

Who: Everyone!
When: Day 119 - Day 126
Where: The Summerlands
What: Ignatius and Gild portal everyone to the Summerlands, with hopes of appealing to the Summer Maiden for help. Meanwhile, the carnival gets the chance to relax in luxury as only tentatively welcome guests. Here is the location write up from the last time the carnival visited. Since then, of course, some things have changed.
Warnings: Nothing in particular.

THE SUN RISES

After taking the time to rest, Ignatius and Gild will be able to pool together their energy to portal the carnival (and the airship) to the Summerlands. Those still in Polaris will be left to their own devices for the moment as Gild intends to ask for the Summerlands aid in relocating them, hopefully as soon as possible. With the effort the carnival put into sorting things out in there, however, they should be fine on their own for a little while, at least.

They will arrive in the flowery fields at the base of the mountains, and soon the Summer Fae will notice their presence. Since the last time they visited, however, the atmosphere has changed.

► YOUR ARRIVAL: As the Summer Fae discover the group's arrival, it will quickly become apparent that there is a tension present that wasn't there any of the other times the carnival has visited. The Summer Maiden comes to greet the group personally, with an entourage of armed Summer Fae. They are not at all aggressive unless provoked, but there is clearly a wariness that is new. They seem uncertain about Ignatius being here, and while Gild will be able to do a lot of the talking and smooth things over, the Summer Maiden will deflect having a serious conversation about affairs until the carnival has taken time to 'rest.' It's more likely that the Maiden needs a moment to think over this new information before dealing with it.

► SUMMER CITY: After the Summer Fae become aware of everyone's presence, and the initial uncertainties are accommodated, they will invite you into their city. There are stairs that lead up the sides of the mountains, but thankfully there are also magical means of getting up there as well. The Summer Fae will be willing to help workers with the injured as needed, offering herbal remedies and healing magic to those that want it. You'll also be invited to join them for dinner, but it feels like more of a formality, and no one is obligated to take them up on it.

► SUMMER PEOPLE: The fae here will do their best to entertain these new visitors - but it doesn't seem that much happens here besides day after day of peaceful meditation and relaxation. It is not uncommon to see Summer Fae spent days doing exactly the same thing, whether that be enjoying the weather, listening to music, or dancing - the day and night periods may be similar to earth, but when you don't need rest it can all blur together just the same. Some of the fae work on feats of agriculture or craftsmanship, and while there is no particularly need to work in this place, they take pride in the fact that they do.

► FAMILIAR FACES: One very different thing about the Summerlands this go around is that there appears to be a small settlement built at the base of the mountains, filled entirely with the former residents of the Manor. Alyss and Reyna will explain that they set up a place to live down there with the Summer Fae's help, and that the fae seems to be trying to remain hands off except when they are needed. The Manor folk overall seem to be doing well, though there is some tension regarding their place in the Summerlands - they are clearly seen as refugees, and while the Summer Fae do their best to help them, the arrival of the carnival and the request for even more help with refugee aid seems to be making things awkward.

► OF THINGS TO COME: The Summer Maiden will remain distant for the first few days, but according to Gild and based on personal observation, it will seem that the news that the Ringmaster has been taken and the idea that even more desperate mortals are requesting to come here are putting her at significant ill ease. She's not rude or dismissive, but she seems reluctant to address the situation head on, though she has said that she will hold a meeting with the carnival later in the week to discuss everything in more detail. None of them seem particularly angry or resentful, but they seem to regard the carnival as an ill portent of things to come.

Syrlya's gaze drifts to the ice elemental, and he takes a step back. It's taking a lot of focus to encase the fire elemental, so he has to time it right to dodge the coming blow.

That doesn't come, though, as they both stop moving and Rita seems confused. Syrlya stops as well, raising an eyebrow at her. "Is everything all right?"

"Something feels weird..." Rita murmurs, her tone a mixture of caution and fascination as she draws her hands closer to herself. "As I channel both elements at once, it's like..."

She isn't sure how to describe it, and it's hard to take the time to find the words, with her focus so divided. On her passion, fueling the fire elemental, her resolve, steeling the ice construct, and the strange sensation of a cold heat rushing through her body, seemingly flooding out of her heart and... it doesn't hurt, actually, it feels powerful, exhilarating...

Suddenly, she lets out a cry. White flames appear to rush out from her heart, consuming her in a brilliant blaze.

In that same moment, the two elementals fall apart. The fire elemental (or what's left of it after the ice starts to envelop it) dissipates into smoke. The ice elemental crumbles and melts, leaving only a puddle in its wake.

The white fire grows stronger, billowing into a fiery pillar, then shrinking back down, stabilizing, and shaping itself into a distinct form: that of a winged humanoid standing before Syrlya. It's the shape of Rita, more or less.

Well! There's not a whole lot of ways to react to someone suddenly combusting. Syrlya jerks back, staring in horror as Rita just goes completely alight before settling back in some sort of humanoid form.

"... R--ita?"
anti_nonsense: (Blastia is people?)

As this newly-formed elemental's shape slowly becomes more defined, she turns her head to look over herself, then holds up a fiery hand to examine.

"...What just..."

It's not clear how she produces that voice, but it is very clearly Rita's voice. Even she seems surprised at her own ability to speak without a normal body.

"Incredible... I can feel the power rushing through me. It's like... the elements aren't just a power I control. They're a part of me..."

"I am... going to assume that is a positive sign, given you burst into flames." That's 'what just', actually. Syrlya wants to be sure she all right, but... maybe from a distance.

She doesn't look like she's dying, at least.

"Would you say it is like you've become an elemental?"
anti_nonsense: (burning passion!)

"I... think so," Rita answers, uncertain. "I wonder if this is what experiencing spirit conversion is like..."

The spirits she created entered their new lives with a seemingly euphoric reaction to the new ways they could feel and manipulate the elements. Rita probably wouldn't go that far, but it truly is remarkable...

"I can use this," she decides, then turns to face somewhere off to the side of Syrlya, an empty space in the clearing... and her body suddenly distorts into a stream of fire that shoots past him, then reforms into a humanlike shape. But as it does, the flames quiver, and she seems to struggle to hold herself together.

"Whoa...!" Her cry of surprise is not unlike that of someone who's lost their balance and is trying not to fall.

Syrlya jerks sideways to put a little more room between them when she jets past, lowering his hands as he watches her.

"Strange has discovered the ability to do a similar form, although... much smaller. That, I believe, was from one of the trials." He thinks Rita's more human size is probably a lot more handy got combat.

"Are you... can you turn back?" Is she stuck like that?

"O-of course I can!" Rita cries, though her tone betrays her uncertainty. "I just have to concentrate..."

Yeah, she has no idea how to turn back. But she's going to attempt it now. She'll try to focus on her original form, to draw her frame of mind away from the power she's channeling...

The flames start to die down, her shape growing more and more defined... and then in an instant, they're extinguished, leaving Rita in her normal flesh-and-bones body with a haze of smoke around her.

Unfortunately, she's also naked, her Summerlands gown having been a casualty of that burst of flames during her transformation. There's a moment of relief when she reforms, followed by a realization of how exposed she is, and as her face turns red, Rita wraps an arm around her chest and waves her other hand, hastily conjuring a curtain of flame to obscure the view of her body. Oddly enough, her blastia remains in its place on her neck, seemingly unaffected by all that's happened.

Syrlya watches expectantly, and when she's back to being flesh his shoulders ease up in relief. He had been anticipating a much worse disaster than... well, ending up naked.

"Oh." Syrlya stares blankly for a second before twisting on his heels, facing the opposite direction to give Rita some privacy. Being out in the forest means no one else can see this, but... it also means few immediate options for covering her.

"They're gone, aren't they?" He puts his hands on his hips. "Do you want to borrow my robe to go replace your clothing?"

With her arms folded over her chest and her body turned the other way, Rita turns her head around to look at Syrlya. Good; he's not looking.

"...If you don't mind," she mumbles, unsure of what else to suggest. The flaming curtain she's put up in front of herself dies down a little as she seems to figure out just how much is needed to conceal what needs to be concealed.

Syrlya smirks a little but keeps his amusement silent as he pulls off his belt and loosens the collar odd- his robe. The top and skirt are connected, at least, so it shouldn't be a problem if it doesn't really fit.

He bends over to roll it off his head and down his arms, leaving him in his pants and boots. He holds the robe far out in his outstretched hand, keeping his back to her. "Here."

And with his clothes off, it's a lot more visible how far the Blue Rose's influence goes. His leaves has been discolored at all the tips, and the crystalline form of the arm has altered it entirely, and even twisted the half of his chest in a mix of foliage and barely opaque rock.
anti_nonsense: (i don't even like you really)

[personal profile] anti_nonsense 2018-12-21 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
The flames dip low to the ground as Rita reaches out to take the offered robe, then quickly pulls it over herself, concealing the glow from her heart, as well as most of her body. It's almost comically long on her, but it does the trick, and the size means she's able to fit her wings under it, though she has to squish them tightly against her back.

"...Thanks," she murmurs, allowing what's left of her fiery barrier to fade into faint wisps of smoke. She turns her head to glance briefly at Syrlya, then back out at the edge of the clearing. She's not really sure what level of 'decency' he'd consider himself to be in, or if that's even a concern for plant people, ordinarily. "I'll bring it back right away. You wanna wait here?"
chronosynthesis: (❖ Continuum Split)

[personal profile] chronosynthesis 2018-12-22 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Syrlya waits a moment after Rita speaks before he looks over his shoulder. Since she's modest again, he turns back to face her. "If you don't mind, I think I will return to the city with you. In case any refitting takes longer than expected."

So, evidently the shirtlessness isn't a problem for him. It's less convenient to wait around the clearing for her to return given how out of the way it is.
