What: Ignatius and Gild portal everyone to the Summerlands, with hopes of appealing to the Summer Maiden for help. Meanwhile, the carnival gets the chance to relax in luxury as only tentatively welcome guests. Here is the location write up from the last time the carnival visited. Since then, of course, some things have changed.

What: Ignatius and Gild portal everyone to the Summerlands, with hopes of appealing to the Summer Maiden for help. Meanwhile, the carnival gets the chance to relax in luxury as only tentatively welcome guests. Here is the location write up from the last time the carnival visited. Since then, of course, some things have changed.

THE SUN RISES↴ After taking the time to rest, Ignatius and Gild will be able to pool together their energy to portal the carnival (and the airship) to the Summerlands. Those still in Polaris will be left to their own devices for the moment as Gild intends to ask for the Summerlands aid in relocating them, hopefully as soon as possible. With the effort the carnival put into sorting things out in there, however, they should be fine on their own for a little while, at least. They will arrive in the flowery fields at the base of the mountains, and soon the Summer Fae will notice their presence. Since the last time they visited, however, the atmosphere has changed. ► YOUR ARRIVAL: As the Summer Fae discover the group's arrival, it will quickly become apparent that there is a tension present that wasn't there any of the other times the carnival has visited. The Summer Maiden comes to greet the group personally, with an entourage of armed Summer Fae. They are not at all aggressive unless provoked, but there is clearly a wariness that is new. They seem uncertain about Ignatius being here, and while Gild will be able to do a lot of the talking and smooth things over, the Summer Maiden will deflect having a serious conversation about affairs until the carnival has taken time to 'rest.' It's more likely that the Maiden needs a moment to think over this new information before dealing with it. ► SUMMER CITY: After the Summer Fae become aware of everyone's presence, and the initial uncertainties are accommodated, they will invite you into their city. There are stairs that lead up the sides of the mountains, but thankfully there are also magical means of getting up there as well. The Summer Fae will be willing to help workers with the injured as needed, offering herbal remedies and healing magic to those that want it. You'll also be invited to join them for dinner, but it feels like more of a formality, and no one is obligated to take them up on it. ► SUMMER PEOPLE: The fae here will do their best to entertain these new visitors - but it doesn't seem that much happens here besides day after day of peaceful meditation and relaxation. It is not uncommon to see Summer Fae spent days doing exactly the same thing, whether that be enjoying the weather, listening to music, or dancing - the day and night periods may be similar to earth, but when you don't need rest it can all blur together just the same. Some of the fae work on feats of agriculture or craftsmanship, and while there is no particularly need to work in this place, they take pride in the fact that they do. ► FAMILIAR FACES: One very different thing about the Summerlands this go around is that there appears to be a small settlement built at the base of the mountains, filled entirely with the former residents of the Manor. Alyss and Reyna will explain that they set up a place to live down there with the Summer Fae's help, and that the fae seems to be trying to remain hands off except when they are needed. The Manor folk overall seem to be doing well, though there is some tension regarding their place in the Summerlands - they are clearly seen as refugees, and while the Summer Fae do their best to help them, the arrival of the carnival and the request for even more help with refugee aid seems to be making things awkward. ► OF THINGS TO COME: The Summer Maiden will remain distant for the first few days, but according to Gild and based on personal observation, it will seem that the news that the Ringmaster has been taken and the idea that even more desperate mortals are requesting to come here are putting her at significant ill ease. She's not rude or dismissive, but she seems reluctant to address the situation head on, though she has said that she will hold a meeting with the carnival later in the week to discuss everything in more detail. None of them seem particularly angry or resentful, but they seem to regard the carnival as an ill portent of things to come. |
⇨ INVESTIGATIONS
DON'T BE VAGUE. If you are having your character investigate something, you must explain what your character is specifically doing to find out information. Don't just say "I investigate the Twelve." You have to be more specific, by saying what your character is doing, such as "My character is going to ask the Honorables that brought everyone in who the Twelve are." The more specific you are, the better info you will get in return.
You can also confront NPCs by this method, and you'll get summary posts in return explaining how the situation will unfold based on your actions. You can also ask OOC questions here, since there's no locations post this time.
► UNCOMFORTABLE ATTENTION (DAY 119+)
If they want to know why in particular, they'll have to ask someone, though the reasons may also seem pretty obvious. The Summer Fae will react to this stimulus in different ways - some curiously trying to stare and subtly follow them around looking for more information, and others outright trying to avoid them, with most of them settling somewhere in the middle.
At the very least, they don't seem to blame the changelings for being this way, but that doesn't make it any less strange.

► FAERIE FASHION
Here are some inspirational images of the kind of stuff that your character may find to wear. The majority of the clothing is designed for the feminine form, but there is masculine clothing as well. Summerland clothing tends to come in bright colours with dramatic and loose flowing fabrics and capes. The a lot of it is the epitome of what you'd expect from 'goddess' style clothing, and if anything, there is a shortage of simple, sensible clothing and an abundance of showy and impractical things.
You can probably cobble together something more simple by stripping down existing outfits, but the default is looking like you're some kind of elemental king or queen.
Characters can pick whatever clothes they want as long as it fits these guidelines. The Summer Fae will not be offering free armor that is anything more than basic/ornamental.

2: back in the Summer City proper, Strange is going to use the fact that everybody's staring at him to gossip with the fae. Specifically, Strange wants to know about a fae's aspect shifting. Has it ever happened before? If so, did it ever shift back?
Considering that he's occasionally wearing Ignatius's symbol and Ignatius's aspect has visibly changed, it's PRETTY OBVIOUS who he's talking about, but Strange will just speak in hypotheticals unless pressed.

Tanyuu can't say she's very surprised about the reception the carnival has received on arriving here, but it is somewhat tiring. When one lives for as long as the Fae do, this is rather akin to someone showing up at your door every day with a spectacular new failure for you to help them with--but what else is the Carnival to do? They've barely any resources, and facing down one Fae was hard enough even with two backing them up!
But the politics of getting assistance will come later. For now, Tanyuu is focusing her attention on getting some new got dang clothes. There's more than enough to spare, and the faster she can get rid of the technician clothing the better. At first she's just looking for herself, but then she realizes that Ginko won't wear any of this without half of the fabric being removed, and Reira will need a lot of alterations, and Joker...
Eventually Tanyuu finds herself settled in the quarters the Carnival has been offered with an impressive pile of clothing next to her. From the evidence of a few pared down outfits neatly folded on her other side and the extra scraps of fabric in a smaller pile, it's obvious what she's up to. She glances up when someone enters the common area with a small smile. "Would be a bit too easy if they has something simple to offer us, hm?"
Meditation
She truly wishes the return here could have been for better reasons. The Summerlands are beautiful and utterly charming, blooming with life and holding a sense of serenity Tanyuu hasn't found in many other places. But the problems following everyone are impossible to escape, even here--even moreso for several of the group's number.
In an attempt to relax for a while, Tanyuu has come to one of the meditation gardens and coiled herself under the branches of a particularly large tree, settled with her back resting against it and her eyes closed. Her posture is a bit stiff, though, and a faint frown tugs at her mouth. The source of her distraction is easy enough to see--a pair of fae on the other side of the garden staring at Tanyuu and whispering to each other like a pair of gossips. Tanyuu has been trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but she's been here for a half hour and they're still at it.

Jonathan Strange | ota!
At least for this moment, Strange thought things through. Wearing Ignatius's symbol was a calculated move, made after mulling things over for an hour or so after their first stand-off. And sometimes calculated moves pay off in ways you didn't expect. Strange had a feeling that he'd get some dirty looks...but he didn't expect the dirty looks to be interspersed with wary looks, confused looks, and all sorts of other expressions.
It's after one of the dinners, as everyone is standing up, pushing in their chairs, and starting in on all the post dinner smiles, chats, and small formalities that Strange catches one more wary glance from a fae. And so, in true Strange fashion, he seeks out another carnival member who decided to attend dinner and have a little bit of gossip.
"They have no idea what to think of us," Strange muses, giving whoever he's standing next to a wry little smile. The rest of his outfit is also reddish-orange, obviously chosen to match Ignatius's cloak that he's currently wearing instead of anything like 'practicality'. His arms and shoulders are bare, someone's already mended a tear in his billowy harem pants and one of the swaths of fabric starting from his back and tied off at his wrist has a slightly visible footprint on it.
"And don't worry about the staring. You'll get used to it over time."

'Relax' is a relative term. For Strange, relaxing involves study, practicing magic, bettering himself, discovering and working out new magic, and so on and so forth. And on the agenda for today? Getting used to his new elemental form. Magic isn't any use if he can't use it at it's full potential.
So guess what, randomass carnival member! There's around a foot tall, foot wide, ball of fire elemental just randomly floating towards you. While Strange can speak in this form, he's honestly more focused on 1: holding himself together, 2: not burning whoever he approaches as he floats as close to them as he can, and 3: lulling whichever carnival member this is into a false sense of security so he can eventually scare the shit out of them when he shifts back to his human form.
It's magically obvious that the ball of fire is Strange but not physically obvious. At the moment, he's just a cute little fireball with lighter fire 'eyes'.

So, after a brief moment of scrying to see where she is, Strange takes it upon himself to find Carly and tell her what's what. Unfortunately, Polaris wasn't exactly paper friendly and the Technican's explanation of flash drives and uploading systems left Strange more confused than ever (you can't put things in a cloud, everyone knows that!) so he doesn't have any physical charts or data. Thankfully, he's got faith in his ability to remember this.
As he spots Carly, Strange gives her a wave. "Miss Nagisa! May I have a moment of your time?"

Calming Room | Open Mingle Day 120
So he grabs his staff and decides to take over one of the miracle rooms towards the entrance of the city. He was here once before, with Rita. There's no sign, but he does spread the word to some of the fae and asks them to pass on the invitation for anyone to come and soothe themselves here.
Inside the room, Yuya casts persistently an effect of calmness. Just standing inside it seems to quell the nervousness, agitation, anget, fear, and violent desires especially--leaving room for more peaceful emotions to bloom. Flowers in the room, too, bloom in response to happier thoughts and memories.
Yuya himself is mostly tucked in the back to focus, but he'll talk to anyone who approaches. Having sat in the music for a while, there's an expression of peace on his face.

Inside the room, Alphys immediately feels more at ease. Really, really at ease. So much at ease that she just... lays down on the floor, and stares at the ceiling.

Syrlya | OTA
Syrlya's not the kind of person who's very good at losing himself in the luxury of recreation. Much like Shabon, he ends up spending less time socializing and dancing, and more time working. With no immediate plans, that means his mind is on working with the new elements he's found himself attuned to.
He takes his practice outside the city, at least, because it proves to be a little... destructive. He's used to using magic to fight, so offense is the first possibility he tries to nail down. There's scorch marks and sheets of ice left on the bark and the ground in the grove he's practicing in, but his real target are illusions he creates. Usually some form of creature or monster he's dealt with before, but some of them get a little personal.

He doesn't completely ignore their hosts, however, striking up conversation with various crafters to hear them explain their work and process. He's amicable, for the most part, but he's aware of the attention that seems to follow when he enters the city--Fae trailing from a distance, whispering between each other, some bold enough to approach curiously.
He knows exactly where it comes from, and he's expecting to be dealing with this for the rest of his life, but there's still relief when he bumps into someone from the carnival and can converse with them to politely block any interaction with the nosy locals. He points to whatever crafts the Fae is showing off when they swing by close enough--could be sculpture, could be glasswork, could be illusions...
"It is impressive, isn't it?"

His 'foe' looks a heck of a lot less familiar to her, though, and she regards it with a curious look.

Ginko | OTA
This is… probably pretty predictable from some of those who already know Ginko well. The weather is nice, and there’s plenty of open space, and he’s goddamn tired.
So here he is, lying on his back in the fields at the base of the mountain, apparently asleep or at least dozing. His ear twitches slightly at the sound of someone approaching, but he doesn’t move or open his eyes.
He’s fine, really. Just… sleeping in a field in broad daylight.
B - Dinner
As much as he appreciates the help of the Summer Fae, the change in atmosphere is… uncomfortable. Understandable, he supposes, but uncomfortable. He’s not sure how welcome efforts to socialize with them would be, so, during dinners, he sticks near people he recognizes.
He finishes a mouthful of food before mumbling wryly, half to himself and half to his neighbor, “At least we haven’t ended up going hungry yet.”

Tyki Mikk | OTA
It's strange.
The Summerlands were where his journey with the carnival began with the Ringmaster, that game of strip poker that ended in a contract, and meeting people for the first time. Yet it felt different given the circumstances. At first it felt so harmless and he was worried for a while he would be bored within the carnival. Now the Summerlands wasn't just a peaceful and deceptively calm start but a refuge from everything else they had endured and experienced.
Unlike others, Tyki wasn't dressed in the latest fae fashion. His usual methods of glamour, alternating from set to set when needed, allowed him to rid himself for now of the Beta clothes he had stolen. In plain slacks and a crisp white shirt that was unbuttoned and hanging wide open, the bandages that slacked around his neck, torso and left side were obvious compared to the rest that seemed mostly untouched by Polaris. He was grateful for the healing magic that was freely provided but much like iron affected a fae, his ugly weakness from the angelic and holy magics still laid over his body like an ugly burn hidden only by what dressings were provided until they healed properly.
"Good afternoon," he greets anyone walking by just as he did many months ago upon his arrival. It's peaceful now and it won't last but that hardly matters anymore. If at dinner, he'll find an opportunity between stuffing his face and if at the manor camp he's clearly looking for someone.
[Napping; anywhere]
As himself, Tyki might find a place here or there to take a nap. Whether a rooftop, an open field, a tree, or anywhere else that looks cozy, he found the opportunity to close his eyes and get lost in the peaceful atmosphere. At times he'll even transform into a cat, finding a spot warm to lounge in even if it is on someone's chest or in someone's lap that might've been relaxing or napping as well if he feels close or mischievous enough to them to do so. He's also a wonderful tripping hazardous.
[Isolation; Fields]
Even with the pleasant atmosphere, his common relaxation, and the lazy attitude he has about everything here, Tyki will find himself rather restless around the mid-afternoon and evening hours. Anyone stumbling upon him will find him quietly working his muscles out of ill stiffness with a few flexible hand to hand combat routines. He's kept it simple, mostly out of respect for not damaging anything of their almost reluctant host, sticking to speedful bursts, kicks, punches, and relative agility instead of using his Dark Matter or Power to Choose.

Tyki can be found just about anywhere. Taking time to himself to recover and relax, he is as usual up for just about anything and anyone's company save for a couple of people within the carnival at the moment. Poke me if you have something else in mind.

He's sitting cross-legged underneath a tree, as he just kind of stares into nowhere, obviously thinking about something. When the cat shows up and hops right in his lap, Strange makes a little noise of interest...then straight up starts making kissy noises at Tyki.
"Aren't you a good little darling?" he babytalks, before going in for some ear scratches.

Yuya | ota
Yuya did say once he was he wanted to give the fae in the Summerlands a proper performance. This... isn't really that, with no carnival and everyone still recovering. But being a true entertainer is being able to bring smiles even if you have nothing but yourself. Or something.
Luckily Yuya's good at improvising. He's got a small gathering of fae watching him while he stands with one foot on top of a short railing, juggling a few apples. He's slowly throwing them higher and higher, trying to focus on his throw even as he teeters on the railing. It's as much for fun as it is practice, testing the limits of the extra healing they receive here to make sure his shoulder, back, and arm are in good enough shape going forward.
He's also changed his attire, thanks to the generosity of the fae.
[Mirror Mirror | Day 123]
Like many others, the amount of freetime they have means Yuya ends up practicing magic, at least to have something to do with himself. Strange told him he was as a point that he could start piecing it together himself. It's a challenge he might as well try to meet.
There weren't a lot of reflections in Polaris, which is a glaring limitation to the travel spells he has--though he felt it even in the hunt. The most obvious solution, to him, is to be able to have reflections anywhere he is.
He's standing by a mirror, one hand on it and one hand on the wall beside it. His face is pinched in concentration, almost ignoring anything around him. And fron his hand something starts to change on the wall, a reflective sheen starting to coat it, creeping slowly a few inches out.

Yuya's found himself watching a circle of the fae dancing, much like the first time. There's a share of alcohol he's turned down twice, now, which still leaves two short fae pulling on his arm his arm to get him to join in. And it's not like Yuya dislikes dancing, he's always been an active guy, but there's a difference with moves you know, or being alone in your room with the radio blasting, and being in the middle of a group of strangers.
He's a little nervous to go along, and is almost dragging his feet to the dance floor--until he spots Gongenzaka, and he perks up and waves his hand well over his head. "Gongenzaka! Over here!"
For Ignatius | Day 122
So he's got a bag of snacks slung over his shoulder as he marches through the fields, making an impulsive detour in the direction of where Ignatius is hanging out until he finds him. He knows this isn't the most comfortable place for him, that his whole... everything is probably upturned. But Yuya feels bad just leaving him to isolate himself.
"Ignatius! Hey!" He bounces forward with a grin, pointing to the distance. "I'm going to go look for unicorns, wanna come?"

GONGENZAKA | OTA
The battlefield is never the best place to discover the ins and outs of a new ability. Certainly, if it proves useful, it can be a Good Time- at least in the sense of creating a miracle opportunity- but it is far from ideal for properly sitting down and sorting things out.
His soul, technically (and actually) is still recovering. But this is a peaceful moment, and one that will only last so long. So Gongenzaka is practicing.
He takes deep breaths to start- closing his eyes, and focusing on an absence of the self...and when he stands, it is out of his very body.
Gongenzaka's eyes open to a hazy, foggy form of the summerlands that has been seemingly drained of colour. He takes a few steps from his body, and views it as a jarring splotch of colour in an otherwise terrifying landscape. Sounds are dull, passing through water. Buildings and distant figures little more than shades if he can see them at all.
But this is practice. So. Gonggenzaka begins to wander from his body, reaching out with his spirit magic to try and contact those he passes.
If it could be condensed into a word, it is the feeling of a 'hello'.
[DAY 119 (Afternoon) | GRAND THEFT ME]
"ZAAANGETSU-!!" The voice that echoes over the air would not normally be surprising, were it not for the sound. After all, someone mad at Zangetsu?? What else is new, during a moment of peace. He's probably done something and gone off laughing about it.
Except, well. That's Zangetsu's voice. And once close enough to see it's...Zangetsu's body, even. Running seems to becoming only half natrually, as if they aren't familiar with the legs at all.
Whoever it is they are utterly determined to make do however, and-
"RETURN MY BODY...! I, THE MAN GONGENZAKA, SHALL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CREATE SUCH CHAOS WITH IT..!!"

[DAY 121 | GOTTA DRESS THE PART]
Eventually, Gongenzaka has his body back. Eventually, he and Yuuya have had a talk about stuff they wanted to do once he had it back as well. And as such, eventually, Gongenzaka is looking over various sashes that a relatively cheery fae is showing off. For all the tension, they're apparently suckers for younglove.
Gongenzaka has already gotten some replacement earrings and metals foe the piercings he opted to try keeping- they're fancier than he would like (which is saying something given most are plain gold), but he would rather the holes absolutely not fill in before he's done trying it out. What he needs now however is...
A bit more than that. "Hnnn..." He looks over a few sashes, or at least, what might be sashes anyway. That's sort of the struggle for him here. For once, he wants to dress nicely for something!!
The problem is getting anything that fits and still looks nice while he's at it.
"Hnnmm... ...what do you think, perhaps..?" He asks his daemon, the cheetah looking fairly bored.
"Honestly I think we're overthinking," she huffs, turning to the nearest person. "Wouldn't you agree?"

GRAND THEFT ME
Unfortunately for poor Gongenzaka, Zangetsu has been cavorting about in his skin for the better part of half an hour. Gon was busy with his soul stuff, and then he had to find Zangetsu's gigai in the fog of the soul plane... Lord only knows how much damage he's done.
But for right now, he has entire cakes in each hand, one of which has a giant bite taken out of it.
"Only if you can catch me, nerd! I'M GONNA EAT EVERYTHING."

The high of defeating the Mother of Invention fades, by the time they reach the Summerlands. But what is more, the attitudes surrounding her seems to slam Carly down into the reality of what is happening, and has happened.
Especially when the time comes to get something to wear other than her cloak of shadows. With it on, all of her light is simply gone. Her wings, her tail, all revealed to be strange husks covered in white feathers, the usual light missing. Carly herself seems to be trying listlessly to inspect some options of dress to wear. To anyone else they are opulent, glimmering things. Beautiful and shining.
Carly can perceive only the flat colour of it all however, and it leaves her dull eyed and quiet among the choices.

She eventually enlisted the aid of her Pokemon, of all things. Carly wears a rather lovely gown, the fabrics flowing as she floats- but she doesn't float anywhere for the most part. It seems instead that she's 'content' (in loose terms) to simply sit on the outskirts of most things, overlooking seas of flowers and plants that seem to blur together terribly in her eyes.
Nuna in particular seems far more calm than typical- as if realizing that if she does anything, it needs to be with 'tact', for once. It's to the point where the nearest passing person might find themselves not cracked upon with a bone, but instead gently tugged at with a mitt-like hand...at which point, once attention is scored, the marowak points toward her trainer and grunts.
Hey. Do something about this.

Lambert might be able to stand looking at himself now, but Childermass is a different story. The magician's still staying away, and his absence is like a missing tooth Lambert has to consciously refrain from trying to poke at, something that's not like to be fixed by repeated prodding. It's an all too familiar pattern as it is, Childermass pulling back when he needs space, and any attempt to grasp onto him only serving to push him away even further. It's more like dealing with a frightened bird than the magician would be pleased to think, but unfortunately it's not so easily fixed as throwing a hoodie over him and bundling him up until they're somewhere safe.
Still, there are other reasons Lambert can't stay away from him just because he wants to reassure himself that Childermass is still here. The message comes by way of texting ring early into their stay in the Summerlands, brief and to the point:

Reira is still rambling about it, in possibly the chattiest state Eruka will have ever seen her in- even as they go ever closer and closer to this big butterfly garden that was recommended to visit. Plenty of sweet foods and drinks and massive flowers that could either be smelled or sat upon or even sat under.
Also there are butterflies, and maybe birds, which is an immediate plus. (Probably)
But anyway she's still rambling-] ....and it's still a little weird, I guess, but it makes the big screen easier to move around, because everything just becomes wind around it...

ZANGETSU | OTA
It was just a wild hair, really. Gongenzaka was practicing his astral projection, leaving his body empty and unprotected. Could he even do it? Was it possible? He just had to find out.
Zangetsu abandons his gigai, leaving it slumped against a nearby tree, and waits patiently for Gon to wander from his body. He seizes his opportunity and enters Gon’s empty body. It’s a weird fit, uncomfortable and awkward at first, given the extra bulk and additional limbs. But then he manages to get the hang of it, like he’s driving a rental car. Or, in this case — driving a stolen car. And he takes off.
You can find “Gon” all throughout the Summerlands, mostly doing… weird things. Primarily eating everything in sight, running full tilt for no apparent reason, doing balancing acts on his various legs, etcetera. “Gon” seems to be having a grand time, giggling and cackling with a strange reverberation to his voice. He seems to have mussed up his hair, too, in order to hide his eyes. His movements occasionally seem jerky, stiff, and unnatural. All in all, it’s kind of an eerie sight.
But it’s just Gongenzaka, right? Right!
[Day 120-125, Various Locations]
Well, if he could take an empty body, who was to say he couldn’t share one with someone? After all, that was his normal state of being, back home. He wasn’t exactly made for being his own entity, though he’d managed it quite nicely.
He’ll track down various carnival members an get their attention however he can. “Hey! Hey! I think I figured out a new power. I wanna experiment some.”
Well, that sounds kind of terrifying.

It's bright and warm here, too -- Anode's just as fine on a barren moon, but there's something refreshing about the Summerlands, a nice change of scenery. She feels like she can breathe again. Well, figuratively speaking. She doesn't need to breathe. But she can fly again -- there's finally space for it -- so you might see a rather small biplane swooping around, just for the hell of it.
It takes about half a day before she realizes how incredibly boring this place is.
There's no adventure, no excitement other than the sort the Carnival folk make for themselves, which, admittedly, Anode is provisionally into. But there's nothing to do here, and it makes her wings itch. It makes her fingers itch, too, and she doesn't really have anyone here to keep her out of trouble, so if she gets bored enough (and barring the entertainment of anyone else, she is so bored), she might go looking for something pretty and valuable-looking to touch. You may or may not recognize Anode as one of the Polaris refugees, but being a nine-foot-tall robot, she does tend to stand out.

⇨ MEETING WITH THE SUMMER MAIDEN (OPEN TO ALL)
Gild and Ignatius seem aware of the plan, and Gild will be encouraging everyone to think of what they're going to say in advance. Ignatius seems more wary and pessimistic about the whole thing, but he won't disagree with Gild's suggestions, either.
Once the day finally comes, everyone will find themselves being reminded by various emissaries of the Summer Maiden that she is prepared to receive them within the 'city hall' of the Summerlands. Lights of various colours filter in through pristine stained glass, with large, finally crafted monuments lining the halls. It looks like some crafter faeries spent a long time prettying this place up.
Everyone who attends will be invited to sit around a large, round table in the building's center. All the chairs are the same, and the Summer Maiden's placement shows no special significance. The Starlight, the Whirling Rainbow, and a few other fae are present, though most of the seats are left open for carnival members.
Gild and Ignatius will enter together and take seats directly across from the Maiden - they seem more at ease with each other right now than they have at any previous point. However, after some customary greetings, they will merely wait in silence for everyone else to arrive. Once it seems like no one else is due to come, the Summer Maiden will begin.
"I have been told of the Ringmaster's fate, and of the carnival present situation," the Summer Maiden says. "...As such, I have decided to offer you all permanent refuge in the Summerlands, until such a time that you choose to leave. You no doubt have enemies within the Winter Court, but I do not believe they will attempt to pursue you past the Summerlands borders. I cannot promise the same anywhere else."
She stops speaking, that apparently being the main thing she was prepared to say. A few moments passes, until Ignatius says, somewhat incredulously:
"That's it?"
"If you would see fit to ask for more, this is your time to speak," the Summer Maiden says, unmoved. She is prepared to listen.
[OOC: This is where you can make toplevels directed at the Summer Maiden. Each top level will be considered to be a separate 'conversation' within the overall meeting, and anybody can pop into any one of the conversations. This all happens one after another, of course, but the timing of each conversation can be flexible. If you have any questions, ask the mod!]

He gives the Maiden a little nod, then asks,
"If I may ask, the Mother of Invention, a faerie of the Winter Court, deliberately attacked, tortured, and mutilated a faerie of the Summer Court. The only reason she was able to obtain that faerie is through collusion with the Huntsman who, if I am not mistaken, is supposed to be an ally of both Courts. How do you, as one of the heads of the Summer Court itself, plan to address that blatant breach of trust?"
Notably, Strange isn't wearing Ignatius's cloak and he's not sitting right next to Ignatius: Strange picked a seat approximately halfway between Ignatius and the Summer Maiden. However, he is trying to keep both Ignatius and the Maiden in view as he talks.

A little ways from the settlements of the Summerlands, there's a wooded area with a clearing, where one might have noticed smoke and flashes of white flames from time to time over the past few days. Should someone wander into the clearing, they'll find patches of grass that appear to have been both frozen and singed, as well as several pieces of burnt fabric. At the base of a tree is what looks like a pile of dresses, loosely folded and recently left for someone to retrieve.
White flames dance in the sky above, then descend into the clearing and converge into a humanoid shape. The elemental seems taken aback at the presence of someone else in the clearing, as if they've stumbled upon a secret.
"Wh... what are you doing here!?" the elemental demands, and as soon as it speaks, it's apparent that it's Rita's voice coming from the fire.
[late night contemplation]
Somewhere in the Summerlands is a field of flowers that emit a soft, silvery glow at night. Should one venture out to see them during one of the evenings following the meeting with the Summer Maiden, they'll find Rita sitting among them with her knees pulled up to her chest. She seems to be staring up at the stars, lost in thought.
With no sounds other than a light breeze blowing between the flowers, Rita can hear the footsteps of someone approaching without looking away from the sky. She doesn't turn to look, but it isn't long before she speaks.
"Well, don't just stand there. If you plan on sticking around, have a seat."

While wandering off on his own for long swathes of time isn't entirely unusual and certainly something Childermass has been doing since their arrival back in the Summerlands, chances are he can't avoid someone coming to track him down and talk forever. After a certain point, he simply doesn't wander the city and only spends the time in the town the Manor's changelings have put together when it's time for dinner or to sleep or, in most cases, help Lambert with his own new spell.
But when it isn't those times, he can be found out in the forest, deep enough to not make stumbling across him an easy feat but it is still possible to. This just isn't something he cares to work on in view of the rest — fae and changeling alike — and once you step into the little clearing amongst the towering trees, it'll be apparent as to why.
Anyone who can sense the Void will know immediately that it's present but to the rest, Childermass is seated, legs crossed, at the center of a small circle of dead plant life. The grass has blackened, the underbrush wilts, flowers turned into piles of dust. He's holding one now, a dandelion of no real consequence, and focusing on it. Stepping into the circle brings a feeling a dread, though, so take care.

And even if he does spend much of his time leading up to what comes next — the Summer Court, he assumes — it isn't impossible to catch him while lingering around the changeling settlement. Sometimes throwing sticks for Baker to fetch, sometimes not, and possibly, rarely he'll be in the city itself for whatever reason.

"I know you probably think I'm being reckless," he says. Childermass had been suggesting that no one connected to the Summer Court should go, and yet, Steven has been insistent. Childermass is, as ever, hard to read, but he assumes he finds that bothersome.

Dragon Mastery
Five minutes.
That’s how long he could hang onto the summon for Clear Wing’s full size. Which meant it would be just enough for getting out of a pinch with another fae. Such time that Yugo could have with his dragon were few and far between outside of letting them hover near his side as a shoulder pet, but maybe the commotion the teen stirs up with them just outside the city (but not too far of a walking distance) will grant one a lucky sight:
White scales and teal crystal gleaming in the light of the sun as the synchro spirit whips about in the air, occasionally kicking up dirt and grass as they do so- the reason being that Yugo’s collected random junk none of the carnival’s gracious hosts wanted and he’s tossing them as high and far as he can manage or laying them out for the dragon to blast with a plasma breath.
But he also alternates for the sake of having enough training maneuvers to last the allotted time by pointing at small trees and random weed-looking plants for Clear Wing to slice through with the “Hell Dive Whirlwind Slasher”.
It’s all good exercise on many fronts for Yugo as well actually, since he’s dashing around doing all of this while maintaining the summon.

But when it comes to training focused on himself, whenever he isn’t taking in what the Summerlands has to offer in hospitality…
Well he’s entirely shirtless for one. The teen will be stretching for a moment if one catches him early, otherwise there’s plenty of shouting as he tries to get the hang of the new mechanical addition to his back. Plasma flows out of the jets for as long his normal exhale of breath for a long and fantastic leap forward-
Before gravity reasserts its dominance and makes it very hard to stick the landing. And the ground hurts.
Alternatively since his insides are all screwed with in the first place for such an implant to be physically possible, sometimes one might instead see Yugo misfire himself forward instead of blasting at one of his own improvised targets…… or his jet doesn’t start and Yugo merely half-sneezes, half-coughs out a wild shot plasma breath. Don’t get singed?

After a few days in the Summerlands, Papyrus is so rested he could scream. They needed a breather after Polaris, yes, after the long drudgery and repeated injuries and the climactic battle. There's still injured people recovering, who can use the time and healing magic.
But he's recovered, and lacking any explicit responsibilities - the fae are too hospitable to give chores. With too much rest, and not enough to pour his energy into, Papyrus finds himself even more sleepless than usual, and takes to climbing the mountain again.
For once, he's not alone in being awake at any time of day - the fae don't seem to sleep at all, and he can find company to chat or dance with. But there's something strange about their friendliness, like it's not quite as sincere as before. Between the weapons sported at the carnival's arrival, the way that the Summer Maiden disappeared after greeting them, and, well...
He's thinking about these things from a rock jutting out along one of the mountain paths, looking down at the settlement at the foot of the mountains. There's something about how the little buildings for the Manor's previous residents are huddled at the base of the mountain, compared to the lofty mountaintop settlements the fae seem to stick with. A little lonely, down there. Distant.
...As though the refugees are an uncomfortable obligation. Taken in by fae who did not prepare themselves for the realities of coexisting with such creatures. Not the differences of mortality, their basic needs would be easy to address or neutralize... but their presence. They would be living reminders of the multiverse, of the greater conflict these fae chose to hide from.
It was one thing to have ideals... to refuse to harm any mortals... to withdraw in protest... to live peaceful, isolated lives... when it was in accordance with their nature. But the isolation does little to change the fates of the mortals they championed. To these mortals who were captives of the Manor... does it make any difference, that these fae of the Summerlands have separated from their court? If these fae truly feel moved by the mortals' plights... what are they achieving, isolated here?
The refugees must remind them of that. And maybe there is... guilt, doubt. Digging into them, every time they interact. But even if these fae want to change reality... They are dancers, crafters. Beautiful, decorative... and ineffective, at enacting such change. They could make a world where they do no harm, but little else.
"I don't think that's fair," Papyrus says, uncertaintly, to the open air. He can't deny that those observations sound very confident, and informed, but... he doesn't particularly like them or want to believe them. He shakes his head, talking like it's been a conversation this whole time.
"It's only been a few months... And, they've been living like this for a long time. Not knowing how to change... isn't the same as not being able to. You can't be sure until they have more time. At least as much time as they weren't changing!"
