Performance and Dreamcatchers

Who: Joker, those working entertainment, and whoever wants to do fun arts and crafts
When: The day after the orientation, and then after the ringmaster's announcement
Where: The Big Tent and one of the side stages, respectively
What: Joker gets his performing ducks all in a row, and then does an arts and crafts corner. As you do. Mingle log!

At around ten in the morning, as he told a few other workers and anyone who'd been listening in on the walkie talkies, Joker starts to radio in those who are working under him to meet up in the big top. Hope you had breakfast and not a hangover! Of course, for anyone who tries not to attend, Joker will cheerfully hunt them down and bother them into going.

Sorry, mandatory, you know how it is.

It's later in the day, after the ringleaders' own announcement, that eventually Joker makes another of himself, this time to the general channel. It's an invitation to one of the side stages to make dreamcatchers together, for anyone who still craves company or simply doesn't know what the hell a dreamcatcher even is. Along with that, Joker has taken it upon himself to make sure signs advertising this are plastered all over the carnival.

[Elizabeth looks over at the boy that sat next to her, giving him a warm smile.]

I don't think three counts as lots, but thank you for noticing.

This is so relaxing.

[ Goku's not sure about relaxing, but he's still kind of figuring out how to put them together. He pokes around with the stuff, wires and beads and so on. He starts to assemble them, somewhat haphazardly. ]

I guess so! Do you know what she meant by our lives depend on it?

No, but I can only hope it's hyperbole. [She's going to make them, anyway. She doesn't want to get caught unawares- she's done enough running for her life lately, thank you very much.]

[ He thinks he can figure it out, but he thinks if their lives DO depend on this, he should make sure, just in case. ]

An exaggeration, [Elizabeth explains without hesitation. There's no shaming in her voice, just clear knowledge sharing. Look how cool learning is, you're sharing knowledge! And now she was able to share knowledge with people, from other worlds, even. It's all so wonderful.]

Maybe she's just saying that to get us to all make them. For... I don't know to what purpose they'd solve other than catching dreams.

Oh, okay. [ She explains the word very helpfully. It reminds him a little bit of how Hakkai explains things, without making Goku feel stupid for asking. ]

I've never made one before.

[ He starts putting it together, glancing carefully at the ones she's already made so he can try to match them. ]

Can they really catch dreams?

[Noticing his glance, Elizabeth turns towards him just a little bit more, giving him a better view of how she's doing it.]

Me, neither. I think it's supposed to be an old wives tale, some sort of superstition.

[ Hey, thanks! Goku leans in to take a closer look, then starts twisting the wire around to put the pieces in the right places. ]

Huh. I guess even if they don't work, they're pretty to look at.

[ If the Ringermaster doesn't mind, maybe he'll make himself an extra one? ]

I'm Goku, by the way. [ He smiles brightly. ]

[She just wants to be the most helpful person she can be.]

Exactly- oh, nice to meet you, Goku. I'm Elizabeth.

[ He adjusts the feathers a little but they look somewhat lopsided. ]

What's it like where you're from? Have you been here a while?

[They look fine. If you ask her, the imperfections make the dreamcatchers truly unique.]

I just arrived. Columbia is... I couldn't give you a real answer, Goku, I'm afraid. I only got to really experience it for twelve hours before I came here. And those weren't the best 12 hours of my life. [Maybe the best two.]

Twelve hours? [ How can you experience a place for only twelve hours? But where Goku's from, you can't just arrive someplace suddenly. It takes you a while to get there. Unless you have a flying dragon or something. ]

Sorry they weren't great.. [ Now he feels bad for bringing it up. ]

There's no need to apologize. You weren't the one that locked me in that tower. [No, that was Comstock.]

Or the people trying to keep me there.

I was locked up once, too.

[ That was a long time ago, though.. ]

My world is like ... [ Whoa, what IS it like? It's just the way it is. He's never had to describe it before, because everyone he knew was from there, too. ]

Uh ... big? Haha. I mean, I've been traveling lots, so the look of it changes. Right now we're in the rocky parts in the West, where it's really high up and kinda cold and stuff. Before that, we were in the desert. And there's been forests and mountains and rivers... Before the trip though, I lived in a monastery in Chang'an, with Sanzo.
