BEASTS OF BURDEN↴![]() Come the day of the Hunt, everyone will be brought to the courtyard forest and provided with arrows, bows, and blades as requested. Magic and other weaponry can be used to hunt, but it is suggested by the Prince that the best kill is the one done in a gentlemanly manner, which probably means he will be most impressed by those using the tools provided. The "Best Kill" will be determined from a mixture or whatever beast the Prince decides is best, and the method in which it was killed. The less damage done to the body the better - tearing the body apart will receive poor grades. The corpses are not yours to eat or keep, and all must be returned to the Prince at the end of the day for judgment. The servants are especially nervous, tense, and solemn today, and unless they have no choice, most of them will be trying to give the courtyard a wide berth. Those that have to serve will have stony expressions, or at best will be trying to put on a cheerful face. If casually asked why they are upset, most of them will say something vague about the Hunt making them nervous, and how dangerous it is to participate. OOC: Those who make top levels will have a chance to be randomly selected for a couple particular plot events, so be prepared for that. |
⇨ THE PREY
You can gain BONUSES with the following:
► Hunting as a team. You will gain a +2 for each additional party member, up to a maximum of +4 - AKA, a team of three.
► Focusing your effort. If you like, instead of pursuing multiple prey, you can use both hunts on the same prey. This will give you another +2 on top of any group bonus.
► Being a hunter. If your character specifically has past experience with hunting, as in that's something written on your application, then you can take another +2. Don't be a cheese weasel about this. You can ask for this but the bonus will be given at mod judgement.
► Spending AC points. You can earn up to a +5 bonus by buying it at a rate of 3 AC points per a +1 bonus. Only +5 can be bought per hunting group no matter how many people are in it.
You can gain PENALTIES with the following:
► Hunting "by accident." This includes any sort of accidental or unintentional kill, such as killing in self defense or just attacking a creature out of panic. This will earn you a -10 right off the bat.
► Obvious lack of hunting ability. If you are an unpowered child with a stick or a 20 year old college student who never leaves their basement, you may earn up to a minus -5 for general lack of skill. This only applies to characters who have no practical experience with hunting, fighting, or anything like that.
⇨ LARGE PREY
THE DRAGON
The dragon released into the forest is an impressive beast, and one of the hardest to approach. It is disinclined to pursue anyone in the forest, and will instead keep to areas that it can defend or create makeshift fortifications with. It's scales are rock hard, and it breathes some kind of poisonous gas clouds that burn the skin and respiratory tract. It's bad enough that it could cause weaker guests to suffocate. However, it is disinclined to use this unless you get close.
► TRAITS: Intelligent, territorial, fortifying, reclusive, defensive.

So Lauren and Susan are going after this dragon together! This is the only prey they are going after, and from living in the forest, both boys definitely have hunting experience (what else are they going to be eating living out there? listed in their apps as survival skills). We also will be using AC points for the total of +5 (8 points from Susan, and 7 from Lauren, unless it has to be split by 3s, in which case 9 from Susan and 6 from Lauren).
Susan will be using his magic to attack, rather than a weapon, although if there were any crossbows included in the bows then he may use one of those a bit.
Lauren will be using wind magic to fend off the gas if its blown on them, and otherwise will be using a combination of magic, his staff, and a borrowed sword to fight. OH RIGHT edited to add Lauren has various spells that can cure/prevent against poison because lol druid. So there's another help.

She's not using any sort of weaponry offered other than her gem powers including flight for trying to track it down, and her water to try and murder the shit out of it.
As a Gem, obviously the poisonous gas isn't going to effect her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And as a Lazuli who we now know are terraformers, she will probably adjust the playing field as she needs to to win. Or go to the air if she has to to fight it up there.
No. She's not fair in fighting.
THE COCKATRICE
The cockatrice is a reptilian bird monster who is much more likely to engage those who get near it. Prone to loud displays of intimidation, it won't hesitate to maim hunters, but it would rather make a dash for it afterward instead of finishing the job. It seems pretty clear that it wants you to think that it has the upper hand, even if it doesn't.
► TRAITS: Brazen, mobile, intimidating, loud, decently clever.
no subject
The entire team will focus all of their efforts on the Cockatrice, setting out with the intentions of surrounding and killing their target (Each for their own reasons).
While all three are not hunters, Carly has experience in fighting, mostly with the use of her fire magic; Miko has recent experience in combat, and super strength; Foster relies on ambush for combat, and will be transforming his mice into larger creatures to aid him in battle and tracking.
Carly, despite a lack of experience, will also be using a Bow and Arrow.
Miko will bring a small knife, while Foster is bringing a large knife.

Hunt #2
But this thing, man. THIS THING. Zangetsu wants to fight it. He wants to 1v1 him. As with the peryton, Zangetsu has a variety of physical and energy based attacks at his disposal, and he is a natural born killer.
THE BICORN
The bicorn is an elusive creature whose primary challenge will be tracking it down in the first place. It moves through the trees swiftly, and can seem to dissolve into fog when being pursued. While its biggest strengths are in speed and mobility, it can still easily run a person through with that horn, and its hooves are as hard as diamond.
► TRAITS: Strategic, intelligent, mobile, elusive, evasive.
no subject
They will focus their efforts on the one target.
Neither of them are hunters by trade, but they both have experience fighting/hunting large animals in their home worlds.
9S will be able to track the target by pinging for life signs, and may use his sword to damage it (possibly by throwing it). Pod 153 will be accompanying them, and may use its laser to attack when it seems like there aren't any servants watching.
Rita will try to play by the "rules" and refrain from using magic to damage the target, instead relying on a bow (which she only just learned to use). She'll still use magic strategically to attempt to slow, confuse, or herd the target in a particular direction.

Lambert is a mutated killing machine, specifically trained to fight monsters and will be wielding a sword. Strange is a magician who knows how to shoot a gun but not use a bow and arrow. They'll be focusing all their efforts on the bicorn.
Strange will serve as the bait/distraction, while Lambert stalks in the shadows. Any tracking is 100% on Lambert's end as he's got those witcher senses which can be put to good use. Once they spot the bicorn, Strange will serve as a big obnoxious distraction. Most of this will involve just shooting arrows near the thing but eventually fuck it, he'll use magic: putting up walls of earth to try and close the bicorn off, asking the tree roots to grab it's legs, etc. If the bicorn tries to gore him, Strange will try to puff into smoke in order to get the hell away from murderhorse. While this happens and yakety sax plays in the background, Lambert's going to use his witcher magic to either calm the thing down/force it into submission/attempt to break any transformation curse that might be on the thing.
WINNER!
TL;DR: They try to wake her up with red phoenix fruit and also there's a lot of invisible people.

⇨ MEDIUM PREY
GIANT SCORPION
About two meters long, this giant scorpion has a tough to damage carapace and a stinger with poison strong enough to be fatal if it is not treated quickly. It is not inclined to hunt for people, but if you come upon its hiding place it will strike out.
► TRAITS: Reclusive, sneaky, ambush attacker, prefers to hide.
no subject
Ash will be cheating just a little to locate the thing with her magic; once she finds it, she's going to pepper it with arrows. Most of her skill comes from her magic as well, because this is how Ash rolls.
Alphys... is just kind of there. Might be a distraction to it.
SABERCAT
This cunning hunter is just as capable of tracking you as you are of tracking it. It will hunt down and attempt to maul those that it sees are actively hunting, but it is also intelligent enough to know its limits and retreat if need be. It will often be seen travelling alongside the Dire Wolf.
► TRAITS: Hunter, tracker, ambush attacker, cautious, cunning.
DIRE WOLF
This cunning hunter is just as capable of tracking you as you are of tracking it. It will hunt down and attempt to maul those that it sees are actively hunting, but it is also intelligent enough to know its limits and retreat if need be. It will often be seen travelling alongside the Sabercat.
► TRAITS: Hunter, tracker, ambush attacker, tireless, vindictive.
PERYTON
A stag with wings, this beast seems very shy about getting to close to the hunters, but will not attack. However, it will put itself (and its horns) between hunters and their prey, whether that prey be big or small.
► TRAITS: Passive, non-aggressive, quick to flee, defensive of others.

THE DEERBIRD AND GON ARE FRIENDS NOWGongenzaka will be PROTECTING the Peryton!
Gongenzaka has considerable experience in combat, specifically hand to hand; he has also been training how to utilize his full body for battle, should the need arise. (Considering his base human state could punch through concrete, he's probably going to pack a wallop as well)
He will be holding his energy sensing spell active, using it to either prepare for attackers, or help the Peryton and others to avoid hunters.
He will also have Marishi with him, for extra eyes, ears, and general help in distracting hunters.
EDIT adding; Gongenzaka will defer to the Peryton's preferences in terms of who they search for, but whenever his energy spell picks up on either a Supervisor or someone he knows and TRUSTS (So not you, Zangetsu-) in range of them, he will send Marishi to pass the message on about the creatures.
Yuuya Sakaki will TEAM UP with Gongenzaka as a result of this. Yuuya is not an experienced fighter (and is a notorious pacifist for that matter), but he IS an experienced athelete, and can create distractions or disable certain traps to help the Peryton and others escape if need be. (He will primarily attempt to speak and reason with others, but WILL fight if necessary; he is carrying a bow and set of arrows, and is naturally decent with it. Yuuya will Only aim for non-lethal spots, even if pushed to fight, however.)
In addition, Gongenzaka is contributing 9 AC points, while Yuuya is contributing 6 AC points, for a total of 15 points toward this roll.
Steven Universe will also, eventually, join them in defending the Peryton.
u kno what steven can doHUNT #1
an OP son of a bitchperfectly designed for the hunt. Sorry though, Prince -- no prey of Zangetsu's will be going anywhere but his stomach. /loud buzzer sound/ DISSSSQUALIFIED.Perytons are a much more attractive target than the small game abouts. And if he happens upon one that's been run ragged by a certain Blue Diamond, he's not too noble to steal a kill. Or to blow past Gon to get at it.
And if they happen to be cursed humans, why, EVEN BETTER!Hunting! (Pacifist style)
They're also all going to be focusing on the Peryton (not as an excuse to not deal with the hunt more than they have to or anything, GOSH), so that's another bonus.
Joker and Papyrus don't exactly have hunting skills, but they are a ringmaster/criminal and a monster, so they're at least not going to hurt themselves. That leaves Tamaki as the city boy of the group, even while Joker will be trying to watch over him. Joker also has his Dartix, Feathers, if that's add to anything!
They won't be trying to kill the Peryton! Joker will be keeping the sword he was given sheathed. He will be trying to be nonlethal about this (although getting a prize like feathers or an antler is fine in his opinion), so that means lots of herding, whatever traps they can BS, and shenanigans.
He's bullshitting this as a ~learning experience~ for the kids, like a gentleman. This is definitely an excuse, but he'll lie about it if confronted.
GIANT BAT
The giant bat spends most of its time up in the trees, and though it doesn't seem to want the hunter's presence, if you get too close it will not hesitate to swoop in and attack. Its attacks are wild and unpredictable, which reduces its efficiency but makes it harder to pin down. It seems mostly fueled by fear.
► TRAITS: Fearful, violent, mobile, unpredictable.
no subject
They get the +2 for teamwork, and Peridot is focusing fire and staying with the bat afterwards for another +2. Steven is using his shielding and plant bending powers to keep them safe while doing this and contain the bat.
NO KILL.
⇨ SMALL PREY
Rabbits, pheasants, voles, foxes, snakes and other small rodents and birds can be caught here without specific numerical limits. However, collecting these will still count as one of your two hunts, and you still have to get 6+ to succeed.
