[open] december will be magic again
Who: everyone!
When: the evening of D15
Where: A small meeting hall on the moon, close to the portal to the carnival
What: a whole bunch of show-offs meet up to show off their magic, people interested in magic come to learn about said magic, and other people show up to see if something inevitably gets set on fire. (aka mage club)
Warnings: none so far, will edit if needed.
The meeting hall is a large open space, with hardwood floors and a rustic decor. A few chairs and tables are scattered around, though there aren't enough for the amount of people who'll hopefully show up. Some food has been set out: mostly finger foods (tiny sandwiches, fruit, veggies & dip) though there are some savory options and plenty of home-baked cookies, courtesy of Rin. Drink wise, there's water, hot chocolate, hot tea, and a few bottles of wine because tipsy magic sounds like an awesome idea and this is what happens when the alcoholic makes the dinner menu. Aside from the food table and the few tables, there's not much of anything in the room: plenty of open space for showing off or getting out of the way of someone who wants to show off.
One of the doors of the meeting hall leads to the outside. There's a wider, 'backyard' sort of area with plenty of room for people to cast magic as large and impressive as they want. A fire pit stands outside also for warming your hands and other fire-based magic. Please don't set the building on fire.
This is all very informal. If pressed for details, Strange would have told anyone to just come whenever, stay as long as you like, and so on and so forth. The emphasis is on learning about each other's magic, displaying one's skills and talents, and helping anyone who wished to learn magic decide on a path for them to take.
Showing off is just a given.
( ooc: This is an open mingle log! Feel free to make your own top-levels & tag around! )

one!
"Is there something I should be doing in particular, or...?"

Loose gathering isn't entirely an excuse to justify why Strange didn't plan anything but it can kind of be seen as an excuse. Still, Strange doesn't seem too worried about the fact that there's not really any structure to this thing.
"Just grab some food, start up a conversation, and enjoy yourself."

'Loose gathering' is a bit of an understatement, really. Still, Sora's not one to pass up free food, and hey, maybe he'll learn something.
"How about later? Did you still want everyone to show what kind of magic they can do?"
no subject
"There's an open space out back. Anything large, impressive, or fire-based can be cast out there. I looked it over earlier, there's plenty of space to show off!" Because that, in Strange's mind, is what matters the most.
no subject
Honestly, he still kind of wants minor revenge for the rain thing from Greysol, too.

Sora wants to show off what he can do, then we're gonna have Sora show off what he can do. It's as simple as that.
no subject
Strange looks kinda busy greeting people right now, and Sora doesn't want to pull him away if he's busy. Whether he shows off now or later doesn't really matter to him.
no subject
It's said as if it's the most obvious thing ever. Of course he's sure, if he didn't want Sora to show off, then he'd deflect the conversation with something like 'maybe later' or 'perhaps another time.'

Sora leads Strange and anyone else who'd like to follow them out towards the practice grounds that were previously pointed out. Upon making sure he's a safe distance away, he summons the Keyblade to his hand in a flash of light, takes a look around, and begins to practice his magic, starting small with basic spells and building himself up to the more flashy bits.

Mostly offensive. It's interesting how so many people in the carnival tended to favor that type of magic, himself included. "Fascinating," he murmurs, more to himself. "Is the key thing your focus? Can you do magic without it?"
Of course, he's not asking the main question on his mind: what the hell, that's a giant key. But maybe he'll build up to figuring out and explaining whatever...that is.
no subject
"I can do magic without it," Sora explains, responding to Strange's questions. "It's definitely more powerful when I'm using the Keyblade, though."
no subject
"Does every magic user where you're from have a keyblade?"
no subject
Sora shrugs, choosing not to think on it too hard.
"I guess it just depends on the person."
no subject
"What about you? Can you do magic with a staff or by waving your hands?"
no subject
Then again, he'd been basically helpless without the Keyblade in general, so he's not exactly eager to find out.
no subject
After all, that's the only way to test his limits and see if Sora needs the focus or not. There's nothing judging in Strange's tone, he's just explaining this like it's the most obvious thing known to man.
no subject
It's not like he's ever without the Keyblade anymore. He hasn't been without it in nearly two years.
But then again... there are so many things that could happen.
no subject
At least in Strange's mind, Sora doesn't need any other reason. After all, how else could he test his limits?
no subject
He's already certain he can do it, but Strange seems really curious. Still, the reluctance is permeating, and wow maybe he's more attached to the Keyblade than he realized.
no subject
"You don't have to if you don't want to," he eventually sighs, though it's more in a tone of voice of someone saying that because they know they have to say it over someone saying it because they actually believe it. Because Strange obviously wants to see Sora cast magic without the key thing and is a bit put out that he isn't—though, in his defense, he's trying to (badly) hide that fact. "I simply thought it might be a good idea."
