[open] december will be magic again

Who: everyone!
When: the evening of D15
Where: A small meeting hall on the moon, close to the portal to the carnival
What: a whole bunch of show-offs meet up to show off their magic, people interested in magic come to learn about said magic, and other people show up to see if something inevitably gets set on fire. (aka mage club)
Warnings: none so far, will edit if needed.

The meeting hall is a large open space, with hardwood floors and a rustic decor. A few chairs and tables are scattered around, though there aren't enough for the amount of people who'll hopefully show up. Some food has been set out: mostly finger foods (tiny sandwiches, fruit, veggies & dip) though there are some savory options and plenty of home-baked cookies, courtesy of Rin. Drink wise, there's water, hot chocolate, hot tea, and a few bottles of wine because tipsy magic sounds like an awesome idea and this is what happens when the alcoholic makes the dinner menu. Aside from the food table and the few tables, there's not much of anything in the room: plenty of open space for showing off or getting out of the way of someone who wants to show off.

One of the doors of the meeting hall leads to the outside. There's a wider, 'backyard' sort of area with plenty of room for people to cast magic as large and impressive as they want. A fire pit stands outside also for warming your hands and other fire-based magic. Please don't set the building on fire.

This is all very informal. If pressed for details, Strange would have told anyone to just come whenever, stay as long as you like, and so on and so forth. The emphasis is on learning about each other's magic, displaying one's skills and talents, and helping anyone who wished to learn magic decide on a path for them to take.

Showing off is just a given.

But that's right~ It's strictly for here, so I can show one and then two and then both together! [She has Two Whole Fires, Rin. TWO.]

I'll use my first one, Demon Fire... [A plume of violet flame floats above her hand, and shortly after...] Annnd Hellfire~ [A plume of brilliant red!] Except it'll be way way prettier, you know!

[TWO WHOLE FIRES???]

Whaaaaaa!! Your fire is purple! And red!! But that's... Demon fire and Hellfire? [he frowns slightly, thinking] I thought hellfire was black. But hey! [Rin holds up his hand, producing a bright blue flame] Mine is blue!

Mnhhh, well, it's from my world and then from Portland really, so it's probably going to be different from whatever your fi- OhhhHH!!

[She almost drops her food, beaming excitedly.] Blue~! Oh that's beautiful~! It's like shiranui~

[............fox fire.....................]

Kehehehehee! [now here they are, standing by the buffet, oohing and aahing at each other's fire colors. What goobers.] Huh? What's a "shiranui"? Sounds like something white?

It's fox fire..! Like, umm..will o' wisps, they're called sometimes?

They're the little lights that stories mention, that sometimes show up to lure people away, or help them home...I like the last stories most..~! It seems nicer that way...

Ah-!! Anyway! My fires do something unique, each...is that how yours are, though?

Ohhh! You mean like "kitsunebi"! I guess that is another name for it... I just haven't heard it. I think they're also called "will-o-wisps" or something like that!

[a pause as he thinks about it] Well... I don't know what ya mean by "unique"...? [care to explain that one, Carly?]

Right right~

Ahh, but, as for unique... [She pulls out the purple one.] Here-don't touch it...but just hold a hand near. What do you feel?

[It shouldn't feel like anything. Rather, it's...not hot. The fire isn't warm at all. Despite, y'know...being fire.] This fire only burns energy, and strength...that kind of thing. If someone stood in it too long, they'd drain themselves until they died..! ...But even with that...

...It can't burn anything 'solid'. It can't make heat.

[Rin dispels his own fire and reaches out. If not for her warning, he would have just friggin' touched it... because he's fireproof and doesn't care. But she's right! The fire isn't warm at all -- it's the same temperature as the room] Oh.....! I see what you mean! So this fire only burns away energy, and not stuff! It'll wipe you out, like a really long run on top of a mountain? [he draws his hand back and rubs his chin thoughtfully] I wonder... you know, I'm pretty much immune to all kinds of fire. I wonder if I'm immune to yours, too?

I mean...you could test that, but if you start getting drowsy.... [Rin no]

Don't try it with the other one though..! Hellfire is hot-really, really hot! It'll burn metal, water...and it just keeps going until there's nothing for it to burn!

[Or, y'know, she's out of energy.]

Well, let me just see!!

[Rin puts his hand in the fire and... well. He feels a little bit of a tingle? maybe a little... something. So, not completely immune, but more resistant than most. He pulls his hand out and looks at it] Huh... Weird... but! I wanna try the red fire! Just to see! It sounds a lot like my blue fire.

H-Hey!!! I just said it burns everything!! [But...Ahhh...] Mnnhhhhh....I'll bring out a small piece, but be really careful..! It takes a lot more focus than it should, to put it back...

[...Ping~]

It's fine! Even if I get burned, I'll heal up.

[and Rin sticks it right in like it's not big deal. It FEELS very hot, though, so he immediately draws his hand back with a hiss. ... But only for a moment. Then he carefully puts it back in. It's hot, almost too hot to bear, but it doesn't seem to be causing any damage to his skin] Geez... I guess this is what fire feels like to people?

...I don't know, I don't know what you felt... [But, uh.] That's how most people react to normal fire though..! So, I guess so!

Hot! Like a really bad sting! I remember the feeling of being burned, from before my powers awakened. [he pulls his hand out and shakes it. The pain almost immediately goes away] I used to burn myself all the time when I was learning to cook, haha!!

Ohh? You had to come into your fire too..? [How familiar..!] Mnhh...I definitely still get hurt by fire if I'm not careful...but it's pretty easy to use my own to help make a buffer, I guess~

It's good that you don't burn yourself a lot now though...

[he nods] It was sealed away when I was just a baby. Then it sort of... woke up. [he shrugs] I didn't have much choice in the matter, but it hasn't been SO bad. Except that... [he forms another blue fireball] This fire... it's the most powerful kind of demon fire in my world, used only by Satan himself... and Satan used it to kill a lot of people. People are scared of it.

HEHHHH!? Satan!? Like, the 'devil'!?

[There's a pause.] ...........I mean, I guess that's a good reason for people to be scared... Mnhh...mine isn't that cool, really... [CARLY THIS ISN'T COOL]

The Hellfire was from Portland, but... ...the Demon Fire........ ......Technically I took that from Aslla Piscu...

Yeah! The capital "D" devil. He's uh. He's my dad... [Rin admits sheepishly, rubbing behind his ears] But he's no father to me. [ah... he jumps at the chance to change the subject] What's an "Aslla Piscu"? [he absolutely does not say that right]

Aslla Piscu was one of the Earthbound Gods where I came from-I was his host, the connection he had to the living world, but...

[She trails off.] ...........He's dead now.

[Carly you can't just. Say. Things like that.]

Earthbound... god? Sounds like some weird sort of powerful demon who was possessing you, maybe? .... Didja kill him?

[she can't just say things like that and RIN YOU CAN'T JUST ASK THINGS LIKE THAT]

That's pretty much it, actually..! [CARLY]

Ahh...not...really though. For a while, he was actually here, in my shadow-the Ringmaster made it so he couldn't possess me, but.... [She crosses her arms.] ...His power was really, really useful for helping out around here, so...

...I finally asked her to help me eat him.

[o h]

E-eat him?! For real?!! [well... The Ringmaster DOES like to eat people... it's kind of a thing she does. But still! ALARMING!!!]

Right!

...Well, it was more like 'absorb all his essence and power' but... ...that's sort of like eating right?

Um.... yeah. I guess that's pretty much the same thing....!

[wow that's just. Sort of unsettling, isn't it...]

... There are some people back home who do similar stuff... eat demons to get their powers.

HEHHH!? Possession happens that much!?

[That. That is not quite how it comes about, Carly.] I mean...between the fact that Aslla Piscu was really a horrible thing...and the fact that I'd been using that power a while, it made the most sense at the time but...

...Is it really that common?
