⇨ WISMUTH

Who: Everyone!
When: S2:D6-D11
Where: Wismuth and the Carnival Grounds
What: The carnival enjoys a few days in Wismuth, a coastal city on this planet's version of the American east. However, there are a few things very unique about this version of the planet...
Warnings: The usual, wholesome fun.

PILLAR OF CREATION

Upon arriving, things in Wismuth will seem pretty peaceful. It's a massive city, with no shortage of things going on, but things like violent crime and homelessness are at an all time low. You can wander the streets without much scrutiny, presumed to just be tourists, and most people here come across as helpful and friendly.

VIBRANCY: The main thing that sets this planet apart is its vibrancy - AKA, the raw creative energy its filled with, flowing from its status as a Pillar of Creation. There is no literal pillar, but Wismuth and its planet is a place where Creation's energy comes through strongest. As a result, everything here feels somehow more real, more intense in a way that's hard to put a finger on. Life is abundant, and its bleeds through in every sensation.

ATTRACTIONS: There are plenty of things to see while going around the city. First and foremost, there is a lovely beach area bordering the ocean, and a number of tourist aimed attractions built around it. There are giant malls, movie theaters, live stage performances, museums and all kinds of other points of cultural interest. Anything you can do in a big city you can do here, but better.

ALLOWANCES: The Ringmaster will be giving everyone a reasonable amount of local currency for a few days on the town. You can't make any massive acquisitions with it, but it's more than enough to eat out, see some shows, go to the beach, and whatever you like. You can feel free to pick up some casual supplies, like mundane clothing and souvenirs. There will be more given out later, after the performance week.

PERFORMANCE: Performance week is starting early this time, after only a couple days of exploration. When the carnival has already been on vacation for a month, the Ringmaster figures they may as well get right to it, and then do more touring afterwards. Members of the local populace will find themselves in the carnival once performances begin, dazzled by the other worldly sights. Magic doesn't seem to exist here, despite the fact that it will flow easier for people bringing it from other worlds.

It is exceedingly useful. It even picks up calls on the walkie talkie for him! Sadly, Pod 153 isn't with him while he's in Wismuth; even with the glamour, it is far too out of place.

"Hmm, nope. It's a bit too simple for that." Pod 153 can do the laundry though!! "But don't you think having one is better than having to do the floor cleaning yourself?"

Just the thought of having to do the cleaning... yuck!

"So who's Yu-chan?"
puddingemote: (sweetheart)

[personal profile] puddingemote 2018-01-30 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm, definitely." Maybe he really should buy one after all, if he has enough money...

"Yu-chan is my roommate. About this tall," he waves a hand to show that Yuya comes to about the middle of his chest, Tamaki himself being ridiculously tall, "spiky Christmas hair?"

He could always just use Yuya's full name, but where is the fun in that.

9S tilts his head. "...What does Christmas hair look like?"

Joker had written him a detailed essay about winter holidays, but he fails to see how a holiday has a particular look

"'Cause it's like, red and green?" Tamaki shrugs. "Christmas colors."

Although now that he's said that, he remembers Lambert asking him what Valentine's Day is, and feels a little foolish. "Does your world not have Christmas?"

He had no idea there were certain colours associated with Christmas. And the only reason he even knows about that holiday is thanks to that lengthy essay Joker wrote for him.

9S scratches his cheek. "Ummm... well, it could have? We tried to recover as many records of the Old World as possible, but there's still a lot of information missing."

It almost pains him to think about how much data was lost due to the thousand year gap in time, nevermind all that was destroyed in the fighting in between.

"So Christmas might have existed, just that we don't know about it."

Tamaki probably should have guessed from the mentions of cleaning robots that this guy was from the future of somewhere. He wonders what the Old World was; was it like his world, or something completely different?

Though they are still standing around the electronics shop and people around them are probably finding this conversation weird already, Tamaki goes ahead and asks. "Old World?"

Is it really any weirder than people talking about uncommon fandoms without context?

9S shifts on his feet, awkward. He's had a few conversations with people about the Old World. Some people weren't bothered by it, but others...

"When humans still lived on Earth," he explains. "After the aliens and their machines invaded, they left their homes and fled to the moon. It's been thousands of years since then."

"Ehh? On the moon? Really?"

He's trying to imagine the idea of living in space, on the moon. Sounds like it would be hard; everything just sort of floats away in space, doesn't it? But then, he likes space - that's where the stars are.

Though there's more to this than just that.

"Sounds like something out of a movie..." But he knows enough people from different places now to believe that it's a real iteration of Earth; one where aliens drive his species away.

A movie? Like one of those video stories?

"It's real," 9S insists, folding his arms, slightly offended. "The humans live on the moon and us YoRHa androids operate from the Bunker, which is a station out in space."

In fact, there are other androids operating from other space stations, but the Bunker was his home. But even now, with him trying to separate himself from the organisation that betrayed him, it's hard not to think of YoRHa first and foremost.

"Eh, okay, I believe you." He holds up his hands as though to find off 9S's offense. And he really does believe him, just like he believes that Strange came from an England that has magic and Lambert came from another world entirely. But it's still hard to imagine how people live on the moon.

"But wouldn't the people just float away? On the moon?"

[personal profile] dressedtothe 2018-02-26 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Placated, 9S launches into his explanation.

"Well... the moon exerts a gravitational force on people the same way Earth does. So people wouldn't just float away. But the moon does have less mass than the Earth, meaning it exerts less gravitational force, which allows people to, for example, jump much higher than they would on Earth."

Not that he's ever been to the moon, but. Y'know. Theoretically that's a thing that would happen.

"But if you lived in a space station that had a broken gravity generator, then people would be floating around."

Ew, gross, this sounds like a science lecture. At least it's about space, so Tamaki doesn't totally tune out.

"Does that happen a lot?" Unfortunately for 9S, this is clearly the thing he's most interested in. Trust a teenager with no interest in doing well in school to only care about if people float around on the space station. It sounds pretty cool, to him, unless you floated out of the space station.

"What? Of course not! No one would get any work done!"

Because that's what people do in space. Work. Gosh.

9S folds his arms, tapping his foot as he considers what he's about to say next. Well, he can't resist a bit of gossipping, especially when there's absolutely no way it's going to come back and bite him in the ass.

"Though I did hear a rumour that anyone who was caught slacking off would get ejected into space by the Commander."

His eyes widen and his jaw drops a bit.

"Eh!? Really!? But wouldn't they die?"

He's pretty sure if you go into space, you explode. Or something like that. Maybe you just suffocate from lack of air?

Either way, he's glad this commander isn't his boss, or he probably would have been ejected into space already.
