just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Who: Everyone who's stupid enough to show up for this, because legal drinking ages are for people from a different century/planet.
When: Afternoon/Evening, Day 30
Where: Lakeshore
What: Local Carnival workers get wasted and set off fireworks by the lake.
Warnings: Carnival shenanigans, ie. booze, drugs, and people getting set on fire probably. Put any tag-specific warnings in your headers!
So, Wismuth happened.
Lambert's pretty willing to bet a good chunk of the Carnival is pretty happy to act like Wismuth didn't happen, but he also doesn't really care about what sorrows people are drowning or not tonight: he knows he needed this drink, and after he'd slept off the immediate exhaustion that came with running around Wismuth for nearly two weeks with the power of Creation more or less constantly burning through him, he's ready to something, anything to feel like himself again.
Fast-forward to the lakeshore. There's a huge bonfire going, a box of assorted fireworks that's been 'liberated' from wherever the hell engineering keeps their supplies, and probably a crate of wine that's going to disappear sooner rather than later. Anything else, someone's going to have to bring themselves.
[ ooc: This is a mingle log! Bring your own entertainment, food, questionable substances etc. ]

( Feel free to shoot them my way, I'm usually good with them, and won't mind them if I can't follow)
The goose answers first, all cheerful agreement, as they both look over. It stands to reason that anybody at this party should recognize them - or at least the skeleton - what with the Carnival being closed to guests tonight. Everyone here should be an employee, living and working in close quarters, recognizing each others' faces just a little even if they never talk. But that's not the kind of recognition that comes up with Yuusei, and they both frown and squint at him.
"Hey, wait a minute," the skeleton says, sitting up straight. "You're human. Just human! Weren't you a guest, a little while ago?"
(cool cool cool, thanks!)
He pauses.
"...I don't think."
(np!)
"And an open party!" Papyrus chimes in, trying and failing to imitate the wave with his wing. "You're fine. Especially if you're... Carly's apprentice? Is that what shadowing you mean?"
They figure there's three sorts of categories of people here. Employees, who have contracts... Guests, who don't but were invited, one way or another... And intruders, of various nefarious intent.

He has to think a little longer on a clarifying response than he would normally if he was sober. "Not an apprentice, really... More like..." He sits back a little, staring out at the lake until eventually deciding to ditch the attempt to relate his answer back to apprenticeship and stating things for fact. "I'm trying to get ideas for my contract. That's why I'm here."

They're glad that Yuusei doesn't seem too flustered by monsters and talking animals, even on just his first day. Not only because the Carnival's always traveling to weird places with weird people, though it's good to be polite and not panicking at the guests... but it'd be hard to be happy and comfortable if put off by things like that, when most of his coworkers aren't strictly human, and he soon won't be either.
"Not that it has to be a hard choice," Sistina adds, glancing down at Papyrus. He looks back up, and shuffles a little closer next to her. "It was hardly a choice for us at all! We have got a big magic problem back home, and the Ringmaster is good at big magic. So she'll fix it for us, after a year, just like that." Somehow the skeletal features widen in a brighter smile. "It's... a relief."

"Sounds like that's the kind of thing a lot of people ask for," Yuusei states, his gaze still mostly captivated by the water. "I think so, anyway. It's the sort of thing I've heard of..." He pulls his cup out of the sand. "We had... something like that in my world. A big problem like that. But it's since been resolved, and the bridge is almost done... There's nothing in that realm to ask for, I don't think."
He pauses and stares at his feet over the rim of his cup as he takes another drink. "...if I can't better my own world, it'd be nice to be able to better the carnival... If I'm gonna be here working for the next year, I want to be able to work well, you know? I've done my fair share of repairs, but I've never had to work on a ferris wheel..." The environment itself is mostly what he's concerned with, really. He can learn how a ferris wheel works, but having to get up there is something that'll always pose the same approximate difficulty.

"Almost a little too responsible." Sistina says, shifting an arm aside so the goose can sit right there. "Don't you think... You can be a little more selfish. Selfishly selfless. Even if it's not saving the world, there's other ways to make people happy." She glances up the beach, where others are still in states of revelry.
Papyrus nods agreement. "Yeah! And besides, if it's for the carnival, or doing your job, she might say yes anyway! No need to contract for that, unless it's a big edge." Like their brother, with his big transformation spell making him a little better at fighting. Mostly. When there aren't mind controllers involved. Which is... terribly often, it seems like.

He finishes his drink - which he probably shouldn't have had to begin with, but alas - and nibbles on the rim of the cup in thought. "...if I do this, though," he murmurs somewhat slowly, "then I'll probably be better at it in my own world too, right? And that in itself might be rewarding in some unforeseen way..."
no subject
"That's true!" Papyrus chirps, cheerfully nodding agreement. Offering encouragement is a lot easier than offering clear judgement or advice... And he's something of a yes-man at the best of times, let alone now when he's a bit inebriated and a goose. "If you don't have magic at home, it might not all be the same... But enough would surely carry over!"
Sistina leans back and looks over at Yuusei. "You're a good guy... Wanting to come out here and learn things. No wonder you're Carly's friend." They assume he is, anyway.
