⇨ THE EPILOGUE

Who: Everyone!
When: Day 61
Where: The Carnival
What: After all the rescues team return, it will be matter of tending to the wounded and getting the hell out of dodge. The Ringmaster can handle the fleeing part, but someone will need to look after those in the medical tent. Or, maybe, you just want to show up and ask what the hell happened.
Warnings: Some messed up consequences of faerie fuckery.

IN REPAIR

As the minutes tick past, all four rescue groups will eventually return. Everyone in the carnival is encouraged to help out, ensuring that the rescues and victims both are taken care of after the fact. You can tag in here as rescuers taking care of business around the carnival, victims recovering, or other workers checking in to see what's going on. This log is for general aftermath threads, made by anyone.

That's...

She looks down at her folded arms. When they were still on the wrong way because of her broken gem, it had been very difficult not to keep thinking about whether shattering would feel the way drowning had -- if she'd lose control of her body completely as her gem came closer to breaking in two, helpless in the face of that immense pressure from inside and outside all at once --

Her big blunt fingers are digging in too hard at the tense muscles of her arms, and the sensation brings her back to herself, abrupt and staring. She jerks her head round to look almost accusingly at Steven, lowering her hands to clench at her sides.

"Why are you telling me this. Why are you telling me your weaknesses."

"I dunno," he says, still not looking at her. It feels unwise, when all she seems to do at that is get angry. But, yet...

"I guess it's all I can think about right now."
stompadour: (what)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-09 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Jasper looks away, feeling unmoored and perplexed. She wants to accuse him of trying to manipulate her, but even she's not so boneheaded that she can't see that isn't remotely what this is.

She unfolds her fists, and then closes them again.

"I don't understand you," she mutters.
starseedling: (head for the summit tomorrow)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-09 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Steven didn't think she would. Still, his exhaustion and emotional angst has him in a weirdly whimsical mood.

"I could try to explain?" he says.
stompadour: (abt to zoom in on her face... pchoo)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-09 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Jasper eyes him suspiciously.

"... Fine," she says. It's not like she has anything to do except watch him.

"We're not fighting here," he says. "We're just... both people, and... we're both dealing with the same things. I don't care about any of that other stuff. Doesn't all of this feel different to you?"

He curls his fist closed, watching as the facets reflect light.

"I didn't even want to fight you before. And now... I know you think I'm someone else, but I'm not, and I can't be whatever you think I am, either. Even if I wanted to."
stompadour: (i dont understand this board game)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-13 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know we're not fighting. And I know you're not..." Jasper's eyes narrow. "Exactly the same. As Rose Quartz."

She'd realised that when they had been fighting, back in Wismuth. Facing Steven in one-on-one combat, even with the power of the Void at his disposal, had been nothing like fighting a Quartz veteran of a thousand years of war. And, although she hardly tries to spend time near Steven, having accepted that, it's been a lot easier since to notice other ways the assumption that they're one and the same just doesn't line up.

"... But that doesn't mean I'm not your enemy. Maybe we're on the same side right now, but do you think that means I'm going to side with you against Homeworld when this is over?"
starseedling: (this is fake)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know... if I'm ever going to get to go home again."

It's not something he's said to any of his friends, because he knows they'd be duty bound to prove him wrong. It's just, after this... he's starting to feel as if being faeblooded may follow him for the rest of his life. It isn't just a carnival change which will go away with time. It's part of him, now, and it's forever.

"I just... don't want this to be all there was."
stompadour: (uuUUUHHHH)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-14 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"What? Why not?" She glances over her shoulder, suddenly on the tense side. "The Ringmaster -- does she not keep her promises?"
starseedling: (you'll never shut me the fuck up)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not because she wouldn't let me. Of course she would," he says, quick to correct her. "But... there's stuff wrong with me now that the Ringmaster can't fix. The Rose Queen is going to follow me until I die, probably, just like you guys will back home."

"I didn't know what to do about Earth, and I super don't know what to do about this. It's like all the same stuff but worse, and it feels like none of the people who want to get me are ever going to understand..."
stompadour: (?)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-14 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Jasper squints at him.

"... Then you have to defeat her," she says. Surely this is obvious???
starseedling: (angry like a kitten)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He honestly can't believe that response. He's been more sad than anything else leading up till this point, but a little something snaps in response to that being what Jasper suggests. His tone turns on a dime.

"What," he snaps back, pushing himself up onto his knees. "Like my mom 'defeated' Pink Diamond?!"
stompadour: (Default)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-14 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
For a moment Jasper just goes tense.

Then she glares at him. "Yeah. Like that."
starseedling: (baby shaming)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because that went so WELL!" he yells, standing upon his bed, attempting to be on eye level with her. "HOMEWORLD IS EXACTLY LIKE THE FAE TO ME, JASPER!"

It all comes out at once. He can't hold it in.

"All you do is try to attack me and hurt my friends and ruin my life because of what I was born as, and if I try to do anything against you, you call me a CRIMINAL!"
stompadour: (NO !!!!)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-14 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Jasper responds to him standing up by looming over him harder, because even with him standing on the bed she still has like at least a foot on him.

"You--" She jabs an indignant orange finger at him. "You might not really be Rose Quartz, but your 'friends' are criminals! That Pearl, that fusion--? They're gems who turned against their Homeworld, it's nothing like fighting the fae!"
starseedling: (mr man gives us the facts)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"SO WHAT!? The Ringmaster turned against the Queens and you're following her! You know why? Because they treated her bad! Just like the Diamonds treated my friends bad! Just like they treat YOU bad!"

When everyone is already so much taller than you, looming loses its effectiveness.

"But if it's so REASONABLE to try to defeat anyone who messes with you, why don't you GET OFF OUR BACKS ABOUT IT!"

He's genuinely gone red in the face.
stompadour: ('he'? what kind of sjw bullshit is that)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-14 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Jasper stares at him as if he's just said something completely incomprehensible.

"Why would--" She makes a sort of growling huffing sound, her lower jaw separating as she does it. "They didn't treat them bad, they don't treat me badly--! You've got no idea what you're talking about, and what you're saying doesn't even make any sense!"
starseedling: (please save the anime government)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"They were going to SHATTER Ruby just for trying to save Sapphire from getting poofed! They used Pearl like a slave and treated her like she wasn't a person! They trapped Lapis in a mirror for THOUSANDS OF YEARS and couldn't even take a second to figure out if she was in the rebellion or not!"

"That isn't good, Jasper!" he says, spreading his arms. "That isn't how good people treat each other! It's exactly how the FAE treat people!"

Pearls are slaves. Rubies are disposable. Jasper's not sure how he expects any of these arguments to affect her -- it's like talking to Peridot, before, when she just kept saying things that she seemed to think would sway her that were... barely anything.

She makes a low, frustrated rumbling sound in her throat.

"Peridot said she does the kind of things you all do because it feels right," she says. "Is that where this comes from, too? All those things feel wrong to you?"
starseedling: (sad boy in fog)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Steven lowers his hands. He doesn't really know why he tried. His head feels light and his limbs feel heavy. He moves to sit down on the bed again.

"Yeah. I guess they do," he says more quietly, wrapping his arms around his knees. "They feel wrong when they happen to you, too. Or anybody."

He stares at the bed in front of him.

"You should go," he finally says.

The thing is, Jasper does kind of want to get her head around what the heck these gems are thinking. It's so incomprehensible to her that they act the way they do, and every new thing she hears is just more and more perplexing. And the answers she gets are never anything she can accept.

It doesn't feel wrong to her, when it happens to her. She knows that whatever happens to her, she deserves it. She can accept that. It must just be some kind of irreconcilable defect in their way of thinking.

"... The doctor said I should watch you," she says, frowning.

"No...you should listen to Steven, now," Herbert calls, projecting like an actor from over by the chemistry set, hands in the pockets of his labcoat.
starseedling: (it must have been something i said)

[personal profile] starseedling 2018-06-14 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't want you to be here right now," he says, barely holding back the fact that he's about to cry. He doesn't want to cry at her, or for her to think he's a show he's putting on for her sake. It really isn't.
stompadour: (.....?)

[personal profile] stompadour 2018-06-14 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She frowns at Herbert.

Then she frowns at Steven again.

Then she walks off stiffly without another word.
scientificist: (Come On...)

[personal profile] scientificist 2018-06-14 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That was a lot of....exertion and yelling that Herbert wasn't really sure if it would be beneficial to interrupt or if it would be better to let it run its course. Honestly, he's still not sure. This is why he is going into a field where his patients are preferably unconscious or dead. He sort of stiffly walks over with a glass of water and puts it on the side table beside Steven's cot.

"Do you. Want the curtain back. For privacy." He's not actually looking at Steven's face, he's kind of looking awkwardly over his shoulder.
