THE SUN RISES↴![]() After taking the time to rest, Ignatius and Gild will be able to pool together their energy to portal the carnival (and the airship) to the Summerlands. Those still in Polaris will be left to their own devices for the moment as Gild intends to ask for the Summerlands aid in relocating them, hopefully as soon as possible. With the effort the carnival put into sorting things out in there, however, they should be fine on their own for a little while, at least. They will arrive in the flowery fields at the base of the mountains, and soon the Summer Fae will notice their presence. Since the last time they visited, however, the atmosphere has changed. ► YOUR ARRIVAL: As the Summer Fae discover the group's arrival, it will quickly become apparent that there is a tension present that wasn't there any of the other times the carnival has visited. The Summer Maiden comes to greet the group personally, with an entourage of armed Summer Fae. They are not at all aggressive unless provoked, but there is clearly a wariness that is new. They seem uncertain about Ignatius being here, and while Gild will be able to do a lot of the talking and smooth things over, the Summer Maiden will deflect having a serious conversation about affairs until the carnival has taken time to 'rest.' It's more likely that the Maiden needs a moment to think over this new information before dealing with it. ► SUMMER CITY: After the Summer Fae become aware of everyone's presence, and the initial uncertainties are accommodated, they will invite you into their city. There are stairs that lead up the sides of the mountains, but thankfully there are also magical means of getting up there as well. The Summer Fae will be willing to help workers with the injured as needed, offering herbal remedies and healing magic to those that want it. You'll also be invited to join them for dinner, but it feels like more of a formality, and no one is obligated to take them up on it. ► SUMMER PEOPLE: The fae here will do their best to entertain these new visitors - but it doesn't seem that much happens here besides day after day of peaceful meditation and relaxation. It is not uncommon to see Summer Fae spent days doing exactly the same thing, whether that be enjoying the weather, listening to music, or dancing - the day and night periods may be similar to earth, but when you don't need rest it can all blur together just the same. Some of the fae work on feats of agriculture or craftsmanship, and while there is no particularly need to work in this place, they take pride in the fact that they do. ► FAMILIAR FACES: One very different thing about the Summerlands this go around is that there appears to be a small settlement built at the base of the mountains, filled entirely with the former residents of the Manor. Alyss and Reyna will explain that they set up a place to live down there with the Summer Fae's help, and that the fae seems to be trying to remain hands off except when they are needed. The Manor folk overall seem to be doing well, though there is some tension regarding their place in the Summerlands - they are clearly seen as refugees, and while the Summer Fae do their best to help them, the arrival of the carnival and the request for even more help with refugee aid seems to be making things awkward. ► OF THINGS TO COME: The Summer Maiden will remain distant for the first few days, but according to Gild and based on personal observation, it will seem that the news that the Ringmaster has been taken and the idea that even more desperate mortals are requesting to come here are putting her at significant ill ease. She's not rude or dismissive, but she seems reluctant to address the situation head on, though she has said that she will hold a meeting with the carnival later in the week to discuss everything in more detail. None of them seem particularly angry or resentful, but they seem to regard the carnival as an ill portent of things to come. |

"How does the magic feel to you when you use it?" He knows their techniques are probably different, but it doesn't hurt to hear about her own experiences. He's mostly used to interacting with magical energy directly, or with a pre-existing form, so this ability to create something more tangible is new.
He generates another fireball in front of his hand, sending it towards its chest this time. He seems to have a pretty strong handle on basic manipulation and force, anyway, though there's nothing creative about the approach.

"I guess when I'm using this kind of magic, I'm channeling my own feelings through the elements. With fire, it's usually anger, or passion... something like that. When I focus on those feelings, the magic feels more natural to control."
no subject
"What about ice? What feelings do you associate with that?"
no subject
Rita cups a hand under her chin as she considers the question, then holds out a hand and starts conjuring something else. The fire elemental, with her attention diverted from it, straightens into a rigid, less lifelike stance.
The spell starts as a mass of water, which rapidly takes shape into that of an elemental, identical in stature to the fire one. Its body then freezes over, as if being endowed with an icy suit of armor. There's still some fluidity to its joints, however.
"I suppose it feels more like... my resolve. It's not the kind of feeling that comes in bursts, but something that builds up slowly, and holds strong." The newly-formed ice elemental pumps its fists and takes on a battle stance.
no subject
"So do you use your emotions to temper the elements behavior to be what you want?"
He looks thoughtfully between the two elementals, before focusing on the fire elemental and holding his hands out. The formation gave him an idea, so he focuses on trying to generate ice around the fire elemental's shape as if to encase and smother it. It's going slowly, though, with Syrlya having a much harder time controlling it at the distance.

Rita holds out both of her hands and clenches them into fists as she tries to control the two elementals at once. It's not an easy task, and the two's movements are more sluggish and less natural than when she was controlling only one. While the fire elemental moves to escape the icy grasp of Syrlya's spell, the ice elemental lunges forward, reaching an arm out and seemingly making a grab at Syrlya...
But then, they both seem to slow to a stop.
"Huh...?" Rita's not even looking at them. She seems distracted, looking down at her own fists instead. The fire elemental, in the meantime, is left fully vulnerable to Syrlya's ice.
no subject
That doesn't come, though, as they both stop moving and Rita seems confused. Syrlya stops as well, raising an eyebrow at her. "Is everything all right?"
no subject
She isn't sure how to describe it, and it's hard to take the time to find the words, with her focus so divided. On her passion, fueling the fire elemental, her resolve, steeling the ice construct, and the strange sensation of a cold heat rushing through her body, seemingly flooding out of her heart and... it doesn't hurt, actually, it feels powerful, exhilarating...
Suddenly, she lets out a cry. White flames appear to rush out from her heart, consuming her in a brilliant blaze.
In that same moment, the two elementals fall apart. The fire elemental (or what's left of it after the ice starts to envelop it) dissipates into smoke. The ice elemental crumbles and melts, leaving only a puddle in its wake.
The white fire grows stronger, billowing into a fiery pillar, then shrinking back down, stabilizing, and shaping itself into a distinct form: that of a winged humanoid standing before Syrlya. It's the shape of Rita, more or less.

"... R--ita?"
no subject
"...What just..."
It's not clear how she produces that voice, but it is very clearly Rita's voice. Even she seems surprised at her own ability to speak without a normal body.
"Incredible... I can feel the power rushing through me. It's like... the elements aren't just a power I control. They're a part of me..."
no subject
She doesn't look like she's dying, at least.
"Would you say it is like you've become an elemental?"
no subject
The spirits she created entered their new lives with a seemingly euphoric reaction to the new ways they could feel and manipulate the elements. Rita probably wouldn't go that far, but it truly is remarkable...
"I can use this," she decides, then turns to face somewhere off to the side of Syrlya, an empty space in the clearing... and her body suddenly distorts into a stream of fire that shoots past him, then reforms into a humanlike shape. But as it does, the flames quiver, and she seems to struggle to hold herself together.
"Whoa...!" Her cry of surprise is not unlike that of someone who's lost their balance and is trying not to fall.
no subject
"Strange has discovered the ability to do a similar form, although... much smaller. That, I believe, was from one of the trials." He thinks Rita's more human size is probably a lot more handy got combat.
"Are you... can you turn back?" Is she stuck like that?
no subject
Yeah, she has no idea how to turn back. But she's going to attempt it now. She'll try to focus on her original form, to draw her frame of mind away from the power she's channeling...
The flames start to die down, her shape growing more and more defined... and then in an instant, they're extinguished, leaving Rita in her normal flesh-and-bones body with a haze of smoke around her.
Unfortunately, she's also naked, her Summerlands gown having been a casualty of that burst of flames during her transformation. There's a moment of relief when she reforms, followed by a realization of how exposed she is, and as her face turns red, Rita wraps an arm around her chest and waves her other hand, hastily conjuring a curtain of flame to obscure the view of her body. Oddly enough, her blastia remains in its place on her neck, seemingly unaffected by all that's happened.
no subject
"Oh." Syrlya stares blankly for a second before twisting on his heels, facing the opposite direction to give Rita some privacy. Being out in the forest means no one else can see this, but... it also means few immediate options for covering her.
"They're gone, aren't they?" He puts his hands on his hips. "Do you want to borrow my robe to go replace your clothing?"
no subject
"...If you don't mind," she mumbles, unsure of what else to suggest. The flaming curtain she's put up in front of herself dies down a little as she seems to figure out just how much is needed to conceal what needs to be concealed.
no subject
He bends over to roll it off his head and down his arms, leaving him in his pants and boots. He holds the robe far out in his outstretched hand, keeping his back to her. "Here."
And with his clothes off, it's a lot more visible how far the Blue Rose's influence goes. His leaves has been discolored at all the tips, and the crystalline form of the arm has altered it entirely, and even twisted the half of his chest in a mix of foliage and barely opaque rock.
no subject
"...Thanks," she murmurs, allowing what's left of her fiery barrier to fade into faint wisps of smoke. She turns her head to glance briefly at Syrlya, then back out at the edge of the clearing. She's not really sure what level of 'decency' he'd consider himself to be in, or if that's even a concern for plant people, ordinarily. "I'll bring it back right away. You wanna wait here?"
no subject
So, evidently the shirtlessness isn't a problem for him. It's less convenient to wait around the clearing for her to return given how out of the way it is.
