► THE NEW: It doesn't matter when you entered the tent to discuss your new contract with the Ringmaster, you exit it beneath a blanket of stars. Pointedly alien stars at that - currently the carnival grounds are being treated to a show of shooting stars, and what appear to be unnaturally large and living green moons hanging just a bit too close. The carnival was bustling when you entered, but now it's in the latter stages of being shut down for the night. If you manage to find a clock, it states that it's around 8PM.

Workers from during the day will be passing through the grounds, attending to various pieces of business. None of them will seem very surprised or concerned by the goings on, though some may be sympathetic enough to pause and answer your questions. If you put some effort into finding out how it became nighttime, you may discover that it's been anywhere from a few hours to 7 days since you originally signed your contract. Someone may explain to you that it was probably some kind of time bubble, meant to keep you out of the way until the Ringmaster had time to deal with you.

Every few minutes another new person will pop out of the tent, looking just as confused and under the impression that they had only just finished discussing things with the Ringmaster. Weird.

She passed you a note before you left. Opening it up, you'll see you've been assigned a trailer number, and been given the instructions to drop off any excess belongings and do what you can to get settled in. You have until exactly 9:36PM to do so, because that's when you'll be expected to attend what is listed only as "WORKER'S ORIENTATION".

This is, perhaps, more abrupt than you were expecting - but what can you do? You're here for the long haul.

► THE OLD: If you've ever seen a mass recruitment before, then this is no surprise. People enter the tent when they're recruited, and then sometimes how up again days later when the Ringmaster is ready for them. She isn't a big fan of wasting her time on individual orientations when she's expecting a crowd.

Maybe you're too jaded to all of this to care much, but you'll see the newbies wandering around, probably confused and maybe a bit lost. Maybe you're the kind whose is sympathetic enough to pause your role in clean up and give them some directions, and maybe a word of confidence. Maybe you'll just jeer at them, because you're some kind of asshole. Either way, you expect you'll have the chance to see them later tonight.

Whether by world of mouth, radio, or written note, supervisors will be passing out the following message: all workers are to report to the Cookhouse at 9:36PM sharp for "orientation." If you are at all familiar with how things go around here, you probably have a good idea of what this implies.

Mandatory Karaoke Night.

MANDATORY KARAOKE NIGHT!!!↴

At 9:36PM, the main dining hall of the Cookhouse will be found heavily decorator with various coloured lights and at least one disco ball made of what is ostensibly high karat gems. There are a bunch of cushions and additional seating set up along with the usual tables, and at the head of the call there is a state set up - a karaoke stage. For veteran workers, this is no surprise. Karaoke nights are fairly frequent as activities go, even if they are not usually mandatory. Some of you probably have signature songs already prepared.

The karaoke machine is set up with mostly karaoke tracks that would be popular in the 90's and 00's on the average modern earth, with a few that are more recent. It also has some other random stuff from other worlds that people rarely sing because they are confusing and in languages no one understands. Here is a big karaoke list for your inspiration! The more stereotypically karaoke the better.

Beyond that, there is plenty of food and snacks that were prepared by the cooks earlier, as well as a bar set up for alcohol and other vices. The selection is, as most things in the carnival, eclectic.

Music will be played in between if nobody is singing, and otherwise veterans are encouraged to bring along their own fun and show the newbies a good time. The Ringmaster does ask that vets attempt to be courteous to their new coworkers.

It's just being a good host.

Yeah? Then that's all I need to hear then, we don't want to play around and mess up around here. ( running his nails through raven hair, it reminds him of a waterfall from how easily his hands go through the locks. he focuses on the mirror for a moment as he looks down at his hair, he might as well do the entire thing before leaving. ) Though they make the place look cuter than what it was, so you should like keep up the good work. ( turning in his chair to look at mika, he gives him the whole look both up and down as he comes to his conclusion. I agree with that Naru-chan person, they're spot on. I mean, if you got some clothes that fit and maybe something to match your appearance a little more, you'd be suuuuper cute. Right now... you're "meh" but don't worry, I'm sure we can fix that.

( comfy or not, he has to look better tan this. no one finds someone who dresses akin to a hobo cute, at least kashuu is here to save the day. ) You see like, I don't know what any of that means but you should set aside some funds for yourself. Like, don't you know the joys of shopping?

( a pause as he thinks about it, well, he didn't mean to shit on everything he likes well, kashuu didn't. maybe the other takes those clothes very personally or someone could have given them to him. ) If anything, let me fix your style with what you have. There's a way to make those garments cute but if we can't, finding something new ain't bad.

( brushing his hair once more as he blinks at the mirror to remove one of his stands of hair from getting in his eye. ) I was trying to guess what you might be but I can't, what do you do on stage with your "Mentor", was it? Uhmmm... No way, this place is a nightmare.

( It's clear pretty much as soon as Kashuu starts eyeing him, Mika is quick to fidget and turn his mismatched gaze away from the other under the scrutiny, and from the way his brows draw together, he's obviously uncomfortable. He brings up one hand to scratch at his neck, but speaks up pretty quick. )

Hey... don't stare so much at me, would ya? I don't like bein' looked at that much... It's kinda embarrasin'. ( Wow, what a great mindset for a stage person to have, huh? Not to mention, he can feel his cheeks heat up a little bit at being called cute? He's easily flattered, don't mind him. Still, he doesn't really regret his way of deciding on his money, and shakes his head absently as Kashuu goes on about the joys of shopping. ) Well, yeah, Naru-chan said the same, but if I don't save money then Valkyrie wouldn't be able to go on stage anymore... I think if I gotta choose between somethin' like that an' Valkyrie, I'll always choose Valkyrie~ After all, it'd be a shame if nobody could see Mentor's amazin' performances, yeah?

( He's certainly convinced of that! For good reason, so far as he's concerned. He's pretty used to not being recognized after their period of inactivity though, so he offers up a sheepish smile. ) I'm an idol back home, so together with Mentor in Valkyrie, we do things like singing an' dancing onstage. At our height, we were at the top of Yumenosaki Acadamy, yanno? Valkyrie's the best~

Oooookay, embarrassed much? ( since he doesn't want to be looked at and the fact that he's also an idol makes kashuu raise a brow. for what reason is he so shy about, he should be use to being looked at but the uchigatana isn't going to talk against it. what he does have to make a comment about is the whole buying for himself. ) I get that, but what about yourself? Gotta relish in your own enjoyment but I guess if you enjoy like, wasting your money on that V stuff then you do what you can, okay?

( another brush of his hair as he focuses on himself and not mika, waiting to see if he has anything else to say before speaking. ) Which, I mean, I think you gotta take care of yourself first before anyone else, get it? Because like, who will take care of them if you didn't help yourself. There's nothing wrong with being spoiled, though. ( kashuu doesn't know whether to agree or not so he nods his head to show that he's listening. ) Are you like the only group there or something, must be nice to be the best? Or is that self proclaimed?

( either way. ) But you have gotta apply those amazing skills here too then, since I'm guessing your previous job relates to something here too, I think.

Nnah, well it ain't a waste, but where we performed, we weren't really able to make income from our lives or anythin'. If my hard work can help make Mentor's stages a reality, then I'm happy with that, so even when ya talk about spoilin' yerself an' such, I'm fine like this.

( He puffs up a little bit, because really, it's true? Kashuu acts like this is some grave sacrifice of his, but Mika really is comfortable in these shabby looking clothes of his, he thinks they're fine for someone like him. What's most important is that Valkyrie can continue to perform, and by keeping Valkyrie together, he stays by Shu's side. This makes him happier than he imagines any number of cute clothes could. )

Anyway, we were definitely the best. People even called Mentor the sovereign, yanno? We had a lotta fans too, an' people would come from all over to see our lives~ ( Trust him! They were big! Just, clenches fist, don't call him out on his past tensing. ) Huh? Well, I'm a showman here, so I guess it's the same thing, yeah? Though it'd be hard to fill up the whole stages they've got here when it's just me. Hmmm...~ But it's not like I can just go up an' talk to the other showmen to ask about workin' together as a unit either, huh? Ah, I'm really worried..!

I get it, I guess. You're like really attached to the guy that you'd do stuff for him or something. ( listen, kashuu understands that too which he isn't going to fault mika for. he leans towards the mirror so that he can get a closer look at his face, making sure that his hair looks thoroughly brushed. now the type of spoiling kashuu is use to is what his saniwa is willing to give him, oh he sucks that up but that's a conversation for the next time over. ) Maybe he'll come here or something so you can get your vibe back, stuff like that doesn't take forever and I mean, you showed up here so who's to say he won't.

( another brush through his hair as he looks at the other. ) So if he like comes, you gotta talk with these other showmen and get buddy buddy. So when your 'mentor' comes here, he can like fit in better with you. Not like I'm trying to say he break something and he has to pay this stupid debt but you get where I'm going with this, right?

( if that's not a good enough reason so that he has to go speak with the other showmen to get along, he doesn't know what. ) Look, a new environment must get to you and all, but where I'm from I wasn't there for like a year so uh, don't worry about fitting in, yeah? Okay then. Pass me a comb, would you.

( WELL... It's not a wrong summary, so to speak. Mika's not really sure how to deal with being brushed aside like that though, so he just kind of fumbles along instead of actually dealing with it. It's not like Kashuu is saying anything mean, in any case. He's saying some things though, that do make Mika feel somewhat conflicted. It's true that Shu could, quite easily, wander into this place just as Mika had, but he has a hard time trying to decide if he could be happy for that or not.

Of course, he would be delighted just to see Shu, however long. He just doesn't know how much he can be about the idea of him being stuck here together with Mika, knowing that Shu's so much worse with crowds and strangers than he is. )

I wanna say that'd be nice an' all, but I dunno. Mentor's a real artist, so he isn't the type who'd work in a carnival, see? He'd probably hate the crowds a' people, an' Mado-nee could be damaged from everyone rushin' around an' such. ( EXCUSES... but because he cares. Absently, Mika reaches over to pass the comb along as requested. ) Thanks though. Hmm, yer not a bad guy, are ya? Encouragin' me an' such, I'm glad~ I was worried my roommate might be someone real scary, yanno? But talkin' to ya is more like talkin' to Naru-chan than anythin' else.

Huuuuuuh? I dunno, I'm not a designer at home so like, I'm here and stuff. Don't try to deny him a place here, might as well accept who comes when they come. ( though even when kashuu says that, he probably wouldn't be happy to see someone from the citadel. biting the inside of his cheek, he might be slightly happy but also, they shouldn't suffer too.. or could he even call this suffering? )

Damaged? Okay, now that's going too far, just take them to the medical specialist here if they're fragile. ( grabbing the comb and setting it down in front of him, he leans back in his chair as he yawns softly. ) Excuse me. Anyway, I'm just telling you this as my roommate, can't have you walking around and asking rhetorical questions when I can just tell you here, get it?

( alright, now he's gotta ask. ) You keep speaking about this Naru-chan? But like, who are they? I gotta see the person I keep getting compared to is worthwhile, which I mean, he must be a close friend of yours so I'll accept that.

Nnah, that's not what I mean —... ( But, you know, Kashuu will think what he thinks! At the very least, he'll correct: )

Well, Mado-nee is a doll, so she's especially fragile. I dunno if a doctor could fix her if anythin' happened, see, so Mentor's real careful about where he brings her. ( Still, there's a tentative smile on Mika's features, equal parts grateful and relieved. It's a weight off of his shoulders to know that there are at least a couple of nice people that he can go to around here, and that kind of reassurance definitely helps him calm down a little, moving into the timeframe where they ought to be headed to the cookhouse. At the mention of his friend though, his mouth takes an oh sort of shape to it, and he starts digging in his pockets. )

Naru-chan? Uhh, gimme a second... Hmmm... ( He rummages for a second before pulling out a cheap phone, tapping through the applications until he comes across what he's searching for. Leaning over a bit, he shows a picture taken from his first year together with a brown haired boy, dressed up in some kind of uniform. In contrast, the outfit Mika is wearing seems to match up closer to the colours of Kashuu's current one, though he seems to be smiling into the camera as well. ) Ah, here~ He's from one a' the other units — Knights. I was just thinkin' that ya say a lot a' the same sorta things he did before, yanno?

A doll? ( okay, well, he doesn't know what to say about that but maybe the doll is super cute. he'll only accept her if that's the case. maybe that's just something important to him, which it isn't unlike various of the tantous to carry a doll around or doutanuki who carries that mid-evil helmet wherever he goes. ) Then you gotta make sure that nothing happens to her, you see? Or he just needs to leave it at home, to prevent anything like that happening?

( looking at the phone in front of him, he hums as he understands what's being shown to him. ) So that's them, huh? They look nice, so are they like the other group of people you know there? Knights and... the V one, you said. Wait, I know it. V〜alkyrie♪

( looking up at the other from the phone, he thinks he's right in what he said so he nods right after. ) That's it right? I'm not against saying the same things as him but don't go comparing me too much, I'll be letting you down that way. ( not like he wants to do that, but there's going to be something that differs them and to be roommates, they have to make their own stand as their own person. relating them to another person will only make them miss home a lot, which kashuu doesn't want to happen to either of them but... ) But thaaaaaat outfit, that's super cute. Why don't you wear that! ( pointing at the outfit that mika is wearing in the photo. )

Now that's taste I can get behind, like, this is the type of content I like to see.

Well, there were a lot a' different groups back there like Trickstar an' such, but they're like our enemies, yanno? But even though Naru-chan's with those guys in Knights, he's not bad. ( My, what an arbitrary decision there, Mika. Though, while Knights is something of an intimidating unit, always bloody and at war with itself, it's not like its bad, and they even seem to be getting along with Nazuna's Ra*bits now... But shouldn't that be a strike against them, since Nazuna is a traitor to Valkyrie? Maybe he shouldn't have thought too much into this, it's giving him a headache, and with a troubled expression he shakes his head to rid himself of the thoughts. No, because instead, Kashuu's brought up a better topic.

At the indication of the outfit, Mika puff, puffs with pride. )

A' course! It's an outfit Mentor made, after all ♪ ( He scratches at his cheek though, a little sheepish. ) Well that's the principal outfit for us in Valkyrie, see, a' course I'm gonna wear somethin' like that when I go up on stage. Fabrics an' such are part a' what the budget I was savin' up for goes towards, since things like outfits an' decorating the stage cost too, but we need 'em if we're gonna put on one of Mentor's perfect lives. I guess it'd be nice to wear somethin' that nice all the time, but Mentor's always scoldin' me that I'm gonna get 'em dirty if he lets me wear 'em too soon before we go on stage.

( that sounds like a variety of groups so kashuu nods with every name that mika lists but it's only one, so there's that weak nod for trickstar. ) I see, so there's lots of arguments between you all? I really like the sound of this Naru-chan person, they have taste and I can get behind them. ( well, at least naru-chan is a+ in kashuu's books, the male leaning back in his chair as he watches mika puff up at the comment about his clothes. )

I see, so he made it. Does this mean you don't have taste after all and you just like, wear what he gives you? Listen up, since we're going to be sharing this trailer; you're going to have to learn how to dress yourself. I'm going to pick your clothes for you so you don't go out looking like anything, I mean if I can find you cute clothes like this, you can wear that. I'll try to find things that fit this, your "mentor" has the right idea, so we're going to keep following it. ( better yet, he's been around for god knows how long. valkyrie stole his style but he hasn't noticed yet. ) Well yeah, don't get your clothes dirty! How else are you gunna flaunt if you get dirt and grime on them?

( looking at his clothes now to make sure there isn't any dirt on him... hopefully. ) You understand?

Somethin' like that... ( It's about the easiest way to let Kashuu understand the complicated and ridiculous politics of Yumenosaki. Honestly, sometimes the seriousness of it all feels like it's some kind of dramatized anime, but at the same time, knowing the bizarre temperaments of the truly talented idols there, of course it would end up like this.

Though, hey, those words kind of sting Kashuu! Mika can, luckily, identify the good intention under the insult, but chill! )

Huh? I think that might be a bit much, yanno? I appreciate that yer willing to do that for me an' all, but I'm fine dressin' myself. ( And shabby or not, his clothes are perfectly cute to him! Sorta. If this boy can find stuffed animals he pulled out of a dumpster to be cute, surely these clothes are just fine? ) Besides, if yer a designer, ain't it your job to dress up the performers? I'd hate to give ya extra work just for somethin' like this.

Uhhhh, it's not extra work when you're trying to save someone like you from a disaster. A designer is dressing up but I like to help outside of work, okay? I did it at home but a friend of mine... he didn't want to let go of what he wore, something about the past or something. Nothing important.

( yasusada was just a fool for wanting to wear that haori and hakama but it's not like kashuu could change him. the male shaking his head as he gets up now with his hair half-done, he's not going to go to orientation anytime soon with his head like this but he will do something for mika at this moment. ) Show me your closet, or your clothes and I'll show you what will nicely go together.

( a pause as he clears his throat. ) Anyway, we're roommates, I'm suppose to help you, I'm sure.
