FRUIT OF KNOWLEDGE↴![]() Progresses has been made, but obstacles are approaching. As various characters fall under suspicion for their unusual natures the threat of backlash from the community of Honorables and Architects grows imminent. Several carnival members have fled to the Barrens, allying with the Furies of Eden, a rebel group bent on defying Lilith and taking Eden for themselves. Meanwhile, those still in the city are left with the aftermath. Information is still being cycled between the two groups, via various super powers and delivery methods. Sans has been freed from the control of his Architect and has left to find the rebels, but his delivery service is still being used to disperse information. You can assume to have been told about anything on this spreadsheet that's been addressed to the entire mailing list. ► TENSIONS GROW: As the days go on, the attitude of long term residents have only grown more suspicious and hostile. Several members of the new arrivals have gone missing, and it seems as if the locals are starting to suspect these absences are intentional rather than accidental. Some of the most ornery of them will say things that suggest that they think they've run off to join the heretics, but they will be hushed by those near them. However, no immediately violence is being imposed on people from the carnival's entry group. Not that you've seen, anyway. ► SAMYAZA'S INVITATION: Displeased by the atmosphere being created by all this distrust, Samyaza the Hare, Architect of Festivities and Music, has invited all of the remaining new arrivals to an exclusive garden party of hers. Everyone who is still in the city will be invited to attend, along with some choice members of the native population. The actual party will be happening on Day 88. Attendance is strongly recommended by the other Honorables. The nature of this even will depend on what occurs before it, and will be covered in more detail later in the log. The invitations go out on Day 86. ► HERESY UNVEILED: On the evening of Day 86, the city of Eden is alight with controversy - a band of Furies have been found! Hasma of Araqiel (the horse featured in Missing posters last week) has been caught within city borders, along with two Honorables of Eden who had been secretly colluding with her. The three condemned Furies have been bound and chained in cages in a public areas of the city, awaiting trial and punishment. It's a similar tone to criminals being locked in stockades for the civilians to mock, though the initial city mood seems more uncomfortable and nervous than angry. There is a horse, squirrel, and border collie currently imprisoned. ► RINGMASTER'S RETURN: On Day 87, the Ringmaster will be returning from her investigation. Specifically, she'll be arriving at the doorstep of the Furies in the Barrens, and will be entering to visit her associates within. Apparently, she's been spending all this time searching the barrens for entrances into the core of Eden, as well as trying to communicate with the Serpent. Neither have yielded major successes, however. Carnival members at the Furies base can ask interact with her through investigations. |
STEVEN IS HERE
Carly...? I mean... you're Sabathi, right?
no subject
...But that's not the point- I need to ask you a few things...important, 'project' things, [she adds, angling her head a little. She'd prefer not to openly say anything about missions and such without being certain they're completely alone. Not that they ever can be sure but...at the very least a communal sleeping area is an obvious No-Go for it.] ...if you could?
no subject
[He's been trying to keep himself available in case anyone needs him, though he's been trying to keep out of trouble on his own. (And to get permission from a supervisor before doing anything risky.) Carly is a supervisor, though, so that's cool, right?
He hauls himself up and starts to follow after her - somewhere separate from the communal living spaces, so they can talk.]
no subject
...I just spoke with one of the Furies that were captured, [she whispers gently.] ....though spoke is generous... ...A-hm. ...That's not the point. Steven.
I needed to ask exactly how your healing ability works- I... ...I tried to help them, in my hummingbird state so that I couldn't be tracked, [She adds, swallowing,] ...But I don't have that kind of power I don't think...
You're the only one I know who has that kind of ability- if it means she can get out... [She trails off- mostly because she realizes she's rambled on a bit, and it's probably going to put the poor boy on the spot. She just needs to plan, after all, not send him running off in the horse's direction.]
no subject
What... what are you trying to heal?
[He doesn't know everything about his power, either.]
no subject
It's.... ...
...They took her tongue, [she whispers, coiling on herself somewhat.] ...I managed to get from her that her talent is related to her voice... ...taking her tongue would depower that.
...if it's healed, she's certain she can escape... ...but when I tried it didn't work, [she repeats, finding it difficult to look Steven in the eye all of a sudden.]
no subject
It takes a moment for him to manage to make himself speak, and when he does if it's a small voice.]
I've never fixed something like that before...
no subject
It's alright... [It's not really alright, but they need to focus on each other for now.] ...That's why I wanted to talk about what could be done. Or can, [Carly adds, nodding slowly.]
Starting with...what have you healed before? What kinds of injuries?
no subject
I've just never made something grow back, before.
[His ears are folded back nervously.]
no subject
....I wouldn't have thought 'eyesight' as something that needs...'healing', [she mutters, and if she had hands, one would assuredly be tapping at her chin.]
....Gems? [Right, some of the others are-] ...That's supposed to be their whole body, right? You just put that back together?
[She admittedly has no idea what kind of damage Steven means by 'broken'. It seems pretty intense though.]
no subject
[His tail swishes.]
I don't think I can do it if the gem's been shattered or anything...
no subject
Who knows, maybe if she's lucky the confidence will be catching.] ....When gems are cracked, what kinds of injuries would their 'light' bodies have then? [Carly asks, continuing on without waiting for the answer.] ...The tongue is small- it's only a muscle, even, [she continues, beaming.]
...I...
...I don't want to send you at her, that would be foolish right now, [she mutters, turning her head away.] I had an 'alternate form'. ....I don't think you do, do you?
...but I don't think healing a tongue would be impossible. It.... ...Probably, compared to a gem, it would be more like if something was chipped, it feels like.
[At least if she tries to think about it in the sense of bodies missing little bits of themselves. Her rising optimism is creating most of the support for her confidence in the matter at this point.]
no subject
I... I dunno how much could be missing. Every time before it's been the whole gem, just split...
I can shapeshift a little, but not very well.
no subject
...we probably shouldn't rely on that... [the snake mutters, trying to keep herself from joining Steven in anxiousness. In her case it's more about the knowledge of why Hasma likely agreed to even try this.
She doubts the three imprisoned will last long.] ...is it...
...Is it possible for us to try? [she finds herself whispering, even as most of her mind snaps back about the gal of making a child go through such decisions. She's the supervisor! She should know better!!
And yet...] ...If there's any way to do it, without putting you in danger...
[Yet even while saying those words she realizes how impossible an idea it is. The very conversation they're having is dangerous.
Trying to find a way to discretely heal a tongue when they don't even know if they can? That's even worse.]
no subject
But now another Supervisor is asking him for ways that he can try to grow somebody's tongue back and it leaves him feeling sick with anxiety. He doesn't want to say no. He wants to go help those poor animals, just like he wants to help the Serpent and the rabid Furies in the barrens.
Yet, he knows how dangerous this is. He's scared of what the consequences will be.]
Do... Do you want me to try? I don't know how to hide myself, but... I could... try anyway?
[He's not sure what he should do.]
no subject
So she closes her mouth immediately, and takes in a deep breath. She has to think. How did she do it? Her shapechange was one thing, but she also had fabric. Fabric, which she would ordinarily use for costume, so focus...focus...
After a full minute of quiet, Carly nods.] .....I have an idea, if you're willing. I think I can get you near the cage itself...I still have fabric in the place I was using as a studio, but I also have wire. We could sort of... Cloak you, I think, [she decides.]
It would be crude- this has to be put together quickly, and we'll want something to change your footprints to be safe...but it'll hide you, and I'll be able to stay with you the entire time, [Carly continues. The more she says it out loud, the more she feels like it could work too. All they need to really do is...well. Make sure Steven can't be recognized, after all. Worst case, she can certainly create a distraction quickly enough for him to flee, but she doesn't say that aloud.
Instead she presses on.] It'll be trickier if you have to touch them directly but...
[The snake shakes her head.] Hasma can just lower her head for that, worst case.
...If you're willing? [she asks finally, sucking in a breath. If not...well, there's always that Try And Melt The Bars trick she considered.]
no subject
I could wear cat shoes!
[His reaction to this is a lot more positive.]
If I can wear a disguise... I'll give it a try.
no subject
[Wait] Well. Not cat shoes, sorry. You're already something of a cat, Steven, [she giggles, bobbing her head.] But I'm glad...
...We need to move quickly though- Follow me, alright? And stay quiet. We want to make sure not to be seen...or heard for that matter! I'm pretty sure it'll be a bigger concern near Hasma, but it's better safe than sorry.
no subject
Right!
[He crouches down and starts slinking through the grass, appropriately like a cub trying to learn to hunt by imitating their parents. He wiggles his butt as he goes.]
no subject
But it isn't far. She slips into her little studio nook easily, beckoning Steven in from there. In the dark, it's tricky to make most of the supplies and equipment out- as it is, Carly seems intent on making it even darker, pulling curtains over any windows and making sure as little light from the outside can get in after them.
Only when it's dark, does she use her fire for small 'lanterns'.]
Phew...
...Let's get you dressed up, hmm? [For the most part, the studio seems littered with sheets of fabric- there are definitely long, stiff wires as she mentioned however, and a few accessories that she'll no doubt break down into something toward the disguise.] ...We should probably make sure I can sit with you under it comfortably...
