⇨ THE REALM OF DREAMS

Who: EVERYONE!
When: S1:D8 - S1:D18
Where: Visiting the Realm of Dreams.
What: The carnival arrives at a new location and has its first performance week with the new cast, as outlined here. This is a general mingling log for convenience purposes, but players are welcome to make as many other logs for this purpose as desired.
Warnings: Could be a lot of things, around these parts.

THE REALM OF DREAMS

As the carnival arrives at its first stop since its recruitment phase, and prepares to put its new band of workers to the test. In the meantime, there is a whole new world of dreams and nightmares to be explored, and threats to be faced on carnival turf. As of S1:D11, the carnival will be opening its doors to the creatures within, and the carnival will be open daily from noon to midnight, though the connection to the realm will be constant.

This is an all purpose mingle log for the full duration of the stay, so please mark top levels with some estimate of what days they'll be occurring on. Please bring any mod questions to the original plotting post.

tea time.

[So once Gilgamesh caught wind of their next destination, he found himself increasingly curious, until he could no longer stand it: he had to visit as soon as the proverbial doors were flung open. Unlike many others, Gilgamesh was not bothered by the strangeness of the dream; succumbing to fae magic hardly affected his will, so strong that it could block out anything that was really and truly false. Simply put, his ego was too great to be jarred by even the mere concept of fantasy or delusion—ironic given how many he tended to harbor. He knew who, what, and where he was at all times, and that was that.

...it doesn't make the following imagery any less bizarre, however. Gilgamesh has curled up in a grassy field, surrounded by magical animals of every shape and size, enjoying a cup of tea. He looks, perhaps unintentionally, rather like a fantasy princess, as the animals in question are fawning him as if under some sort of spell. And maybe they are.

Gilgamesh, for his part, appears absolutely relaxed. This may be a good time to approach him without fear of his usual snappishness.]

knightmare.

[And then the nightmares came.

At first, Gilgamesh ignored them entirely. But eventually they grew so rampant and insistent he was forced to confront them, and of course any confrontation involving Gilgamesh tended to get awfully nasty awfully fast. What started as a disagreement over biscuits turned into beasts gone berserk, as the nightmares began to chase Gilgamesh across the realm.

Actually, that's not quite true. It was more like Gilgamesh was chasing them.]

Run, cowards! I shall put you in your graves, where you belong!

[Chasing on the back of a shadowy horse, complete with lance. Was it his lance, or just another figment of imagination? It's hard to say, but if he runs into you, he may very well try to recruit you to his cause. Though his leadership may be questionable, surely it wouldn't be a bad thing to help out... for the good of the realm. And maybe some extra coin.]

dreamcaught.

[This was stupid. This was beyond stupid.

This was stupid on levels he couldn't even begin to describe, but orders were orders, and astreasurer it was his official duty to make sure the dreamcatchers were distributed evenly throughout their numbers to ensure nobody's bad dreams caused a bad time for everyone else. If it were up to him he'd just let them suffer, but given the noose around his neck was a bit tighter than the average worker's, he had no room to complain. Even if he wanted to complain. Badly.

So if you happen to be dozing in a place where you shouldn't be on carnival grounds, Gilgamesh will be paying you a visit to hang a dreamcatcher above your head (and he may have even found a way into your trailer, depending). It almost seems considerate until he takes it a step further and decides to bonk you with it, just for good measure.

Hey, that's one way to make sure it works, right?]

hoasen: (oh look popped balloon)

nightmares it is!!!

[personal profile] hoasen 2016-11-04 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
[The nightmares shouldn't be too much of a hassle, but they came at the worst of times. Vietnam did her best not to sleep, because if she's certain about one thing, it's that her past wouldn't make the physical nightmares...well, soft. She's kept it to sleeping every second day.

Sadly, that meant her alertness during nightmare fights was cut by half. But where did this nightmare come from, the one that seemed to be running away?

That was when she heard a familiar voice and the fast trotting of hooves.]

Gilgamesh?

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-11-04 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Fittingly enough, the nightmare Gilgamesh was currently pursuing had assumed the shape of a fierce tiger, bounding about in unpredictable circles and occasionally pausing to leap at him. So far, Gilgamesh has evaded every blow, but it seems unlikely he can keep up the fancy footwork forever... or can he?

Gilgamesh sees Vietnam before he hears her, and scoops her up and into the saddle as he passes as if it were the most ordinary thing to do.]

Wake up, kitty cat! Your spawn's on the loose!

[...as if she were responsible for this monstrosity.]
hoasen: (expectations)

[personal profile] hoasen 2016-11-04 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, a fierce tiger! It's large and it's fast and he looks almost like he's playing with it.

And seriously, she had nothing to do with it?! But here she is, scooped up into his saddle before she even realised it, so she holds onto him as he bounds after the tiger.]

I do not remember dreaming up a tiger! [Oh look it's leaping at him again!] Quick, it's coming!

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-11-04 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Woosh! Gilgamesh guides them to the left, and the rush of the tiger's leap over their heads can still be felt afterward, rustling their hair. Gilgamesh lets out a glorious whoop, as the tiger growls and assesses them from afar. This has apparently gone on for quite awhile, judging from its panting.]

What shall I slay it with? A stab of this lance, or...?

[Gilgamesh's flickering grin seems to suggest he has something else in mind. Something a bit more fiery.]
hoasen: (echo)

[personal profile] hoasen 2016-11-04 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Instinctively, she would duck, not that the tiger could get them when he rides like this, dodging so swiftly.

Wonder why a tiger?]
How did this even come about...?

[But it's tired now, and as it is a nightmare, she fears not for "quick deaths". Perhaps there's a twinkle in her eye, even if she's trying to remain as stoic as possible, her claws twiddling on his shoulder...]

Incineration.

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-11-04 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
[The tiger rounds upon them once more! The horse rears in anticipation, and sucking in a deep breath, a curtain of flame descends upon their foe not moments later. Hot, deadly, and well-controlled, it was the sure sign of someone who had learned to master their new weapon in this world.

The shadows disperse, and they emerge victorious.]

How exciting! Well, more so than counting gold all day, at least...

[Gilgamesh glances to Vietnam and so announces:]

You'll get the next one. That is the fee for your rescue.
hoasen: (cloudless)

[personal profile] hoasen 2016-11-04 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
[He certainly made short work of it! She watches, mesmerised, for the angle she sees him blows first now differs from when it was sent in her direction. And clearly she's much faster than their foe.

She pats his back to congratulate him.]
Considering the number of nightmares, perhaps you'll be entertained for a while? That was impressive too, Treasurer.

[Her eyes then dart to the side, and she wonders--]

Alright, I will show you how I fight to pay this fee. It will be like me rescuing you, no? [SHE'S JOKING.] But first we must locate these nightmares.

[It shouldn't be too hard, with another lingering close by. Though the pacifist in her would say that in a perfect situation, they wouldn't have to fight what threatens others.]
rescuee: (over heads and ears)

knightmare!

[personal profile] rescuee 2016-11-04 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ Jajo has been largely wandering, bewildered, not quite sure who to address and who to treat as a non-sentient creature. He's had a confusing time of it so far. This little meadow had seemed nice enough to wander into at first, and Jajo had been having himself a pleasant conversation with a being that seems to be constructed mainly of eyes. He wasn't really sure if it understood him, but it nodded very politely whenever he paused, and that was good enough.

But then came the nightmares. The thing of eyes had become a thing of eyes and teeth, and its already limited conversational skills dwindled sharply away. Jajo had decided to leave it be when it began gnashing at him.

He's still trying to get himself somewhere, if possible, a little more out of the way, when the sound of hooves grabs his attention. He'll always react to that sound; he used to have hooves, himself. But it isn't another tundan he spots when he turns — it's instead Gilgamesh on some sort of... thing that he can't quite name.

His eyes grow a little wide as the little herd of twisted creatures that flee ahead of Gilgamesh part around Jajo's considerable bulk, and... oh, god, should he be moving? Getting out of the way? How steerable is that ride of his? He looks ready to dive, but isn't quite sure which way to.
]

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-11-04 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Thankfully, the mysterious creature slows at Gilgamesh's command, and Jajo does not become a Jajo sandwich.]

Woah...!

[Gilgamesh was no Rider, but he still possessed considerable command over mounts; he'd ridden all manner of beasts into battle, including horses—which technically shouldn't have been possible, but anachronisms pose no threat to the great Gilgamesh, apparently.

Gilgamesh greets him with a big grin, apparently in a stellar mood from all this hunting.]

Greetings, Jajo! In need of glorious rescue?

[Eyebrow waggling.]

Well, I might just consider it, if you ask nicely! Go on, do your best to impress!
rescuee: (well that's a regular mux)

[personal profile] rescuee 2016-11-04 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ Gilgamesh pulls up the creature, and Jajo breathes just slightly easier as he straightens up again from his ready crouch. No diving necessary, that's good. And he is in need of a rescue, glorious or otherwise. He's really been starting to debate the wisdom of having left his trailer at all. ]

I think my impressing skills are a little rusty.

[ He knows exactly how underprepared and under equipped he is for all of this, okay. He even manages to look pretty pathetic while doing nothing more than standing and speaking with Gilgamesh. ]

But I'd be much obliged if you could extend a rescue my way. I'd even take one of your inglorious ones, if you'd like.

[ just get him out of this hell meadow, for god's sake ]

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-11-04 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Gilgamesh glances from Jajo, back to his horse, considering.]

You are a bit heavy... but as this is a land of dreams, it may make no difference. Hop on.

[...that easy? There's got to be a catch to this.]
rescuee: (long tailed cat in a roomful of rockers)

[personal profile] rescuee 2016-11-04 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Jajo eyes the horse with an extreme skepticism. He is a bit very heavy, there is that, but possibly even more daunting: ]

...How? [ He sidles one or two steps closer and looks no nearer to working it out. ] And... where? Behind you...?

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-11-04 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Gilgamesh cocks his head in confusion, and then in one swift stroke makes an unfairly accurate guess.]

You've never seen a horse before?
rescuee: (over heads and ears)

[personal profile] rescuee 2016-11-04 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, at least there's not much in the way of derision in the question. That means his answer is just slightly pointed: ]

No, what planet are they from?

[ Just in case Gilgamesh needs a subtle reminder that some of us here are aliens. ]
anti_altruisms: (A simple bowman.)

nightmares etc

[personal profile] anti_altruisms 2016-11-05 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ...well. That's something you don't see every day.

Archer's travels across the realm have led to a few altercations with nightmares, but he hasn't actually seen any of his fellow carnival workers actively chasing them down...until this moment, of course.

He happens upon Gilgamesh charging a group of nightmares, and while the other likely doesn't need any help, Archer doesn't usually allow personal feelings to get in the way of his duty or business. As such, he draws his bow and offers some support from afar.

A dozen or so brilliant red arrows hurtle towards the nightmares, outpacing Gilgamesh's steed. As it happens, he has excellent aim. ]
