THE REALM OF DREAMS↴![]() As the carnival arrives at its first stop since its recruitment phase, and prepares to put its new band of workers to the test. In the meantime, there is a whole new world of dreams and nightmares to be explored, and threats to be faced on carnival turf. As of S1:D11, the carnival will be opening its doors to the creatures within, and the carnival will be open daily from noon to midnight, though the connection to the realm will be constant. This is an all purpose mingle log for the full duration of the stay, so please mark top levels with some estimate of what days they'll be occurring on. Please bring any mod questions to the original plotting post. |
gilgamesh | open
[So once Gilgamesh caught wind of their next destination, he found himself increasingly curious, until he could no longer stand it: he had to visit as soon as the proverbial doors were flung open. Unlike many others, Gilgamesh was not bothered by the strangeness of the dream; succumbing to fae magic hardly affected his will, so strong that it could block out anything that was really and truly false. Simply put, his ego was too great to be jarred by even the mere concept of fantasy or delusion—ironic given how many he tended to harbor. He knew who, what, and where he was at all times, and that was that.
...it doesn't make the following imagery any less bizarre, however. Gilgamesh has curled up in a grassy field, surrounded by magical animals of every shape and size, enjoying a cup of tea. He looks, perhaps unintentionally, rather like a fantasy princess, as the animals in question are fawning him as if under some sort of spell. And maybe they are.
Gilgamesh, for his part, appears absolutely relaxed. This may be a good time to approach him without fear of his usual snappishness.]
knightmare.
[And then the nightmares came.
At first, Gilgamesh ignored them entirely. But eventually they grew so rampant and insistent he was forced to confront them, and of course any confrontation involving Gilgamesh tended to get awfully nasty awfully fast. What started as a disagreement over biscuits turned into beasts gone berserk, as the nightmares began to chase Gilgamesh across the realm.
Actually, that's not quite true. It was more like Gilgamesh was chasing them.]
Run, cowards! I shall put you in your graves, where you belong!
[Chasing on the back of a shadowy horse, complete with lance. Was it his lance, or just another figment of imagination? It's hard to say, but if he runs into you, he may very well try to recruit you to his cause. Though his leadership may be questionable, surely it wouldn't be a bad thing to help out... for the good of the realm. And maybe some extra coin.]
dreamcaught.
[This was stupid. This was beyond stupid.
This was stupid on levels he couldn't even begin to describe, but orders were orders, and astreasurer it was his official duty to make sure the dreamcatchers were distributed evenly throughout their numbers to ensure nobody's bad dreams caused a bad time for everyone else. If it were up to him he'd just let them suffer, but given the noose around his neck was a bit tighter than the average worker's, he had no room to complain. Even if he wanted to complain. Badly.
So if you happen to be dozing in a place where you shouldn't be on carnival grounds, Gilgamesh will be paying you a visit to hang a dreamcatcher above your head (and he may have even found a way into your trailer, depending). It almost seems considerate until he takes it a step further and decides to bonk you with it, just for good measure.
Hey, that's one way to make sure it works, right?]
(( NIGHTMARE THREADS, GET YOUR NIGHTMARE THREADS HERE. Also feel free to wildcard me I'm up for whatever. ))
nightmares it is!!!
Sadly, that meant her alertness during nightmare fights was cut by half. But where did this nightmare come from, the one that seemed to be running away?
That was when she heard a familiar voice and the fast trotting of hooves.]
Gilgamesh?
no subject
Gilgamesh sees Vietnam before he hears her, and scoops her up and into the saddle as he passes as if it were the most ordinary thing to do.]
Wake up, kitty cat! Your spawn's on the loose!
[...as if she were responsible for this monstrosity.]
no subject
And seriously, she had nothing to do with it?! But here she is, scooped up into his saddle before she even realised it, so she holds onto him as he bounds after the tiger.]
I do not remember dreaming up a tiger! [Oh look it's leaping at him again!] Quick, it's coming!
no subject
What shall I slay it with? A stab of this lance, or...?
[Gilgamesh's flickering grin seems to suggest he has something else in mind. Something a bit more fiery.]
no subject
Wonder why a tiger?] How did this even come about...?
[But it's tired now, and as it is a nightmare, she fears not for "quick deaths". Perhaps there's a twinkle in her eye, even if she's trying to remain as stoic as possible, her claws twiddling on his shoulder...]
Incineration.
no subject
The shadows disperse, and they emerge victorious.]
How exciting! Well, more so than counting gold all day, at least...
[Gilgamesh glances to Vietnam and so announces:]
You'll get the next one. That is the fee for your rescue.
no subject
She pats his back to congratulate him.] Considering the number of nightmares, perhaps you'll be entertained for a while? That was impressive too, Treasurer.
[Her eyes then dart to the side, and she wonders--]
Alright, I will show you how I fight to pay this fee. It will be like me rescuing you, no? [SHE'S JOKING.] But first we must locate these nightmares.
[It shouldn't be too hard, with another lingering close by. Though the pacifist in her would say that in a perfect situation, they wouldn't have to fight what threatens others.]
knightmare!
But then came the nightmares. The thing of eyes had become a thing of eyes and teeth, and its already limited conversational skills dwindled sharply away. Jajo had decided to leave it be when it began gnashing at him.
He's still trying to get himself somewhere, if possible, a little more out of the way, when the sound of hooves grabs his attention. He'll always react to that sound; he used to have hooves, himself. But it isn't another tundan he spots when he turns — it's instead Gilgamesh on some sort of... thing that he can't quite name.
His eyes grow a little wide as the little herd of twisted creatures that flee ahead of Gilgamesh part around Jajo's considerable bulk, and... oh, god, should he be moving? Getting out of the way? How steerable is that ride of his? He looks ready to dive, but isn't quite sure which way to. ]
no subject
Woah...!
[Gilgamesh was no Rider, but he still possessed considerable command over mounts; he'd ridden all manner of beasts into battle, including horses—which technically shouldn't have been possible, but anachronisms pose no threat to the great Gilgamesh, apparently.
Gilgamesh greets him with a big grin, apparently in a stellar mood from all this hunting.]
Greetings, Jajo! In need of glorious rescue?
[Eyebrow waggling.]
Well, I might just consider it, if you ask nicely! Go on, do your best to impress!
no subject
I think my impressing skills are a little rusty.
[ He knows exactly how underprepared and under equipped he is for all of this, okay. He even manages to look pretty pathetic while doing nothing more than standing and speaking with Gilgamesh. ]
But I'd be much obliged if you could extend a rescue my way. I'd even take one of your inglorious ones, if you'd like.
[ just get him out of this hell meadow, for god's sake ]
no subject
You are a bit heavy... but as this is a land of dreams, it may make no difference. Hop on.
[...that easy? There's got to be a catch to this.]
no subject
...How? [ He sidles one or two steps closer and looks no nearer to working it out. ] And... where? Behind you...?
no subject
You've never seen a horse before?
no subject
No, what planet are they from?
[ Just in case Gilgamesh needs a subtle reminder that some of us here are aliens. ]
nightmares etc
Archer's travels across the realm have led to a few altercations with nightmares, but he hasn't actually seen any of his fellow carnival workers actively chasing them down...until this moment, of course.
He happens upon Gilgamesh charging a group of nightmares, and while the other likely doesn't need any help, Archer doesn't usually allow personal feelings to get in the way of his duty or business. As such, he draws his bow and offers some support from afar.
A dozen or so brilliant red arrows hurtle towards the nightmares, outpacing Gilgamesh's steed. As it happens, he has excellent aim. ]
