⇨ THE LUNAR SOLSTICE

Who: Everyone!
When: Winter Breaks: Day 6 - Day 25
Where: THE MOON
What: The carnival journeys to one of its moons to celebrate the Lunar Solstice. More information here.
Warnings: Winter fun.

MOON WALKING

The journey to the moon only takes a blink of an eye, but it leaves the carnival far away beneath you. The second moon can be seen on the peripheral, massive compared to its usual view. At least when the holidays start out, there will be no notable wildlife on the moon, though this is something you can talk to the Ringmaster about if you think it needs a change. It sounds like this is the first time she's used it in quite a while - it probably needs some dusting off!

Claim your cabins, and proceed to... well, do whatever you want! There is no rush and little obligation, besides to enjoy yourself. For real, this time. She promises there will be no vampires. Or, at least, none that don't already work for the carnival.

CABINS: Living arrangements are character choice for this event, and there are a variety of cabins of various sizes, mostly built to house 2-6 people, though you can fit more in if you squish. They are all made of wood and of a rustic design - no fancy modern furniture, here! Each building is housed with a fireplace and the needed amenities. You can pick up materials to cook with the private kitchens if you like. Theoretically, you could spend the whole holiday sequestered away, watching the snow fall. Some of them also have outdoor hot tubs available!

ACTIVITIES: Activities are mostly going to be character driven, though there will be some large group games like bingo and maybe a poker tournament happening at some point in one of the festival halls. Otherwise, there is a lot to offer: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, ice sculpting, snowball fights - it goes on! If you'd like to run a winter activity, just let the mods know, and we will get the word out there for you.

FEASTING: Every day isn't a full-out feast because that would get a bit unhealthy, but there will be a number of specific feast events over the holidays where everyone is encouraged to let out their inner hedonist and stuff themselves. There will be one big feast per week, with smaller but also delicious meals offered in between. The feast dates will be B12, B18, and B24. There's also plenty of alcohol available for anyone who wants it.

SHOPPING: As mentioned in the planning post, there is a massive market being run by the World Walker Caravan! The Ringmaster has given everyone 1250 credits to spend on items, but there is a caveat - must spend at least 500 of those credits on gifts for other people. And it better be a good one, if you only buy one! (She will ask that you do not buy her presents, however. She appreciates the sentiment, but it seems sort of silly buying her things with her own money! If you'd like to gift her, please have it be something more personal or handmade, but you are not obligated to get her anything at all.)

TREATMENTS: The beginning of the holidays will also be about the time that the emergency Medical Team will have finalized their treatments for the Prince's poisoning. Watch out for further information on that - and make sure to get treated if you are suffering from petrification or poison induced illness! The holidays will be a lot more fun that way.

Whereas Cole is thinking oh thank the Maker, it doesn't feel like a steep incline. He's still a little apprehensive about skiing, it's best to do these things veeery slowly.

He reaches up to rub one of his ears, more as a nervous tic than anything else. Though...wait a moment.

"If that it, then why haven't we seen any people going down?"

Because the other side probably is steeper.

Lambert can't help it -- he barks a laugh. "I can't imagine you supervising anyone," he says. "No offense. But I can't see you giving up magic for numbers."

Though knowing Strange, he'd still stick with the magic somehow. Just differently, maybe.

"I know he doesn't wear color. I just wanted to see how ridiculous it'd look on you." The performance outfit he used to wear, the same one he wore at the Manor ... that's as gaudy as it gets, and Lambert's pretty sure he only wore that because he was dedicated to the job and then later because he was too practical to discard any piece of clothing. Right now, they haven't actually spoken to each other in a few days, after the argument that left Childermass disappearing through a shadow after so unexpectedly appearing in the first place; Lambert still can't figure out what he was there for in the first place.

"You're you. You are your own 9S. If you don't want to go back, then don't."

9S isn't stuck somewhere. 9S has options. 9S can do all sorts of things and explore all sorts of places. If he does not want to go back to YoRHa, then he shouldn't. It's as simple as that in Cole's mind.

"Find a way to do what you want somewhere else."

"I wouldn't have to. I could still be a magician while being an accountant, I simply wouldn't perform."

He'd definitely stick with magic somehow. It's too much a part of him now to ever give it up.

Blissfully unaware of any arguments Childermass and Lambert might have had, Strange continues rifling through the clothes for something that Childermass might actually wear in the first place. Unfortunately, a lot of these seem to be brightly colored. Thankfully, there's a few other racks of clothing for them to rifle through.

"I'll look through the rack on the other side of the tent if you give this one another once-over." After all, Lambert can't really walk. Strange has accepted the fact that he'll be the one carrying things and walking around and doing things of that sort.

Allen sprouts that nonsense from time to time. In his book temptation was always present. Vice and sin would always influence that temptation to do ill over and over. It was only with a hard determination and a good goal that could present people from indulging in selfish desires. To believe in someone only to be disappointed again. It seems almost worth less than the effort given. Yet Tyki couldn't deny those that did gain that motivation from praise, reassurance, and love.

"Well then, show me your all, Mister Papyrus." Now that his own mound is packed tightly with a little cheating involved he'll use his own hand to shave off sections and start creating the structure of nothing particular. He could go skeleton, he could just make a body without a head for now...

Cabins

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-04 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
He’s late coming to this. While he had not been seeking the Carnival in his travels in the Fade, it had been a welcome find and now he had to blend in. This included, apparently, walking through a portal to the moon to take part in a long Fae celebration. He’s been directed to the section of the resort where the workers have been welcomed to stay and the difficult part is figuring out where exactly he wants to set up camp.

It’s clear some are currently occupied, either by the sounds leaking outside or the lights on. Others, he’s sure, are currently empty as their occupants experience what else the moon has to offer. While he appears to be considering the cabins carefully, he at least looks at home standing in the snow and ice. There had to be some that would offer solitude of some sort or one with… quieter occupants.

Well, better to be direct about it.

"Do you know of any that remain empty?" he asks aloud, shifting his focus to whoever happens to be passing.

Feasting

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-04 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The food here is lavish and the jovial nature of it reminds him somewhat of social occasions he has attended in the past without the politicking. It was a missed bit of danger and thrill for him though he had to admit their hosts were gracious. At the weekly feasts, he partakes of little food wise, preferring to nibble throughout the event. Somehow his glass of wine always appears full though if it’s because he is continually making sure it is refilled or simply holding it for show, is not clear.

His attention is more drawn to the spread of sweets.

"It feels impossible to try everything in one evening," he muses as he peers at what appears to be a type of small, frilly cake. "Are the World Walkers known for their skills in pastries?"
lonesomewanderer: (i'm not suspicious you're suspicious)

Ski lodge/out and about

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-04 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Much of this is foreign to him. Modern technology for one. His time spent indoors is primarily learning how everything works, including his newly obtained walkie-talkie. He can be found pondering various appliances because despite him chalking it up to some form of magic, he is trying to learn how they work. At times, he’s sitting in the main room of the lodge by the fireplace with his walkie-talkie in hand and fiddling with it. Similar to message crystals yet different. Strange.

Where he spends much of his time, however, is wandering the grounds. He seems most at home when he is walking out in the snow, feet bare like the stereotypical elf he is. He can often be found on hiking trails or keeping to himself as he watches the snow fall.

"You do have more than one evening," Syrlya points out very helpfully as he snatches one of the little crusted cookies from the next plate over. After all, the chef for the feasts was their chef for the entire vacation.

He sizes Solas up briefly. Given the extremely close proximity of everyone being on a moon resort, he's finding it easier to notice when newcomers arrive. So she's still seeking contracts. Interesting.

"I don't know how renowned they are for it, but all of the food has been wonderful thus far. I don't see a reason for that not to continue with their pastries." He pops the small cookie whole in his mouth.

"It's okay, I was just... Thinking about the last android I met, before I came here. The circumstances were kind of... intense?"

It sounds like a question, like she's not sure if that's the right word for it, but... She lets out a short, soft laugh, though there are tears at the corner of her eyes that she's working on fighting back. Laughing at herself, at how unexpected and sudden these feelings came rushing in.

"Sorry." And now she feels like it's necessary to apologize back, for her reaction. There's a small, apologetic smile that goes along with that.

Frisk looks to be around twelve years old so that size. They're not picky, so if it's bigger then themselves, they'll roll with it. The sweater they were currently wearing was pretty baggy anyways.

"Um." They come closer, kind of unsure of the choice. Perhaps there was something to knowing most of the choices and results they could make. There was something wrong with their Saves and that needed to be poked at somewhere safer, so they couldn't do this over if something went wrong.

But...this is just a conversation. Frisk shouldn't be worried about it.

"Dark green, if it's okay." They like darker colors.

cabin

[personal profile] dirthena 2017-12-04 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Lavellan spends her time settling in trying to come to terms with the world she's found herself in; the 'old fashioned' atmosphere of the cabins certainly eases some of her shock. It seems too simple to simply write it off as magic, but she's quickly realizing there's no other explanation that she knows of to deal with it.

Whoever might be rooming with her, or simply stoping by to see why the lights flickered on and off for a solid fifteen minutes, will find someone dressed in armor with a wooden staff strapped to their back standing in the small kitchen area, barefoot. She's shorter than most humans, with very obviously pointed ears and large eyes — which are currently flicking back and forth from the microwave meal in her hand to the various kitchen appliances.

"At least it comes with a drawing," she muses. Now she just needs to find a knife to stab the top of whatever's in the box.

Lavellan certainly makes an interesting figure -- a head shorter than the average human woman -- and very stubbornly refusing to put on shoes or socks in the snow. She has a thermos of hot cider clutched in her hand, steaming slightly, and occasionally she sips from it as she passes judgement upon the various statues.

"I don't know," she says to whoever is closest to her at one point, squinting and tilting her head to the side. "It almost looks like a swan if you do this, but if you look at it straight on--" No, she still doesn't see the description of Squirrel with Nuts.

[A disaster.] A diplomatic visit that turned... rotten, with no small part because of our host. We were woefully unprepared for him.

[There's no points getting into the gritty details, but Flowey does deserve to know what they're up against... Syrlya knows he ultimately appreciated all the warnings.] He was another fae, like the Ringmaster. As a whole, they're very powerful and care very little about those that they consider smaller than them. [He gestures to them both.] It was a test he expected us to fail so that he had the upper hand.
dirthena: (uh huh sure)

shopping

[personal profile] dirthena 2017-12-04 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Given money to spend, Lavellan finds herself wandering around the World Walker Caravan — there seems to be no limit as to what they're selling, and oftentimes she'll stop at any storefront that's selling something obviously more archaic than what's common with the carnival itself. She visibly brightens when she spots the dwarves, and spends far too long in conversation with them for someone to pass it off as simply interest in what they're selling.

Later she's mulling over what look like staffs much like the one currently strapped to her back, some topped with crystals, others with metal decorates, and looking at the money she'd been given. If someone is passing, they're likely to overhear her musings.

"Am I expected to buy gifts for people I don't know? I just arrived—" Perhaps it's time to be a random benefactor.
