⇨ THE LUNAR SOLSTICE

Who: Everyone!
When: Winter Breaks: Day 6 - Day 25
Where: THE MOON
What: The carnival journeys to one of its moons to celebrate the Lunar Solstice. More information here.
Warnings: Winter fun.

MOON WALKING

The journey to the moon only takes a blink of an eye, but it leaves the carnival far away beneath you. The second moon can be seen on the peripheral, massive compared to its usual view. At least when the holidays start out, there will be no notable wildlife on the moon, though this is something you can talk to the Ringmaster about if you think it needs a change. It sounds like this is the first time she's used it in quite a while - it probably needs some dusting off!

Claim your cabins, and proceed to... well, do whatever you want! There is no rush and little obligation, besides to enjoy yourself. For real, this time. She promises there will be no vampires. Or, at least, none that don't already work for the carnival.

CABINS: Living arrangements are character choice for this event, and there are a variety of cabins of various sizes, mostly built to house 2-6 people, though you can fit more in if you squish. They are all made of wood and of a rustic design - no fancy modern furniture, here! Each building is housed with a fireplace and the needed amenities. You can pick up materials to cook with the private kitchens if you like. Theoretically, you could spend the whole holiday sequestered away, watching the snow fall. Some of them also have outdoor hot tubs available!

ACTIVITIES: Activities are mostly going to be character driven, though there will be some large group games like bingo and maybe a poker tournament happening at some point in one of the festival halls. Otherwise, there is a lot to offer: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, ice sculpting, snowball fights - it goes on! If you'd like to run a winter activity, just let the mods know, and we will get the word out there for you.

FEASTING: Every day isn't a full-out feast because that would get a bit unhealthy, but there will be a number of specific feast events over the holidays where everyone is encouraged to let out their inner hedonist and stuff themselves. There will be one big feast per week, with smaller but also delicious meals offered in between. The feast dates will be B12, B18, and B24. There's also plenty of alcohol available for anyone who wants it.

SHOPPING: As mentioned in the planning post, there is a massive market being run by the World Walker Caravan! The Ringmaster has given everyone 1250 credits to spend on items, but there is a caveat - must spend at least 500 of those credits on gifts for other people. And it better be a good one, if you only buy one! (She will ask that you do not buy her presents, however. She appreciates the sentiment, but it seems sort of silly buying her things with her own money! If you'd like to gift her, please have it be something more personal or handmade, but you are not obligated to get her anything at all.)

TREATMENTS: The beginning of the holidays will also be about the time that the emergency Medical Team will have finalized their treatments for the Prince's poisoning. Watch out for further information on that - and make sure to get treated if you are suffering from petrification or poison induced illness! The holidays will be a lot more fun that way.

( Thankful that Cole doesn't push further for the moment, Lavellan lets a small sigh escape her, her shoulders relaxing. She doesn't know the answer, and realizing that she doesn't know the answer isn't going to make her feel any less like her entire world is falling apart, crumbling. It would have been hard enough to deal with when she had two hands, now -- after everything -- it almost feels impossible. )

You would be the one speaking from experience. ( If only it was going to be that easy for her. ) Thank you, Cole. For everything.

( She hadn't gotten to say that to him before he left, and she feels as if she should. Just once. For his compassion and help both in Thedas and here, for simply being Cole. )

Not having actually thought that far, Herbert pauses a moment, blinking.

"Weh-hell, being a triumph of science is purpose enough in itself," he says, and he believes that but he can tell it won't be enough.

"I require assistance in my work," he says abruptly, "and you...are a necromancer--unreliable now, in your...rot, as you say." Control is nothing. He has to ferry Dan along constantly as he listens to his damned girlfriend and other limited, simple obstacles to scientific progress. He steps closer again, hand on the chair's back as he moves around it.

"My usual...collaborator did not accompany me here, my work progresses faster with. Assistance. Your knowledge of death made more effective by my reconstructed serum would make you a valuable colleague--if. You allow yourself to be remade."

Dragons always made matters tricky, no matter what world they belonged in.

Solas listens as he sips at his drink, considering the other man's words. That magic was leaking and from the way the man spoke about it, it was something that troubled him greatly. That often happened when the old way of the world reared its head upon the new. Solas knows fully that his own plans would end with as much devastation and chaos, and they are not ones he intends to share willingly.

"How were you able to defeat such powerful creatures?" If they were capable of driving races to extinction, how were they suddenly killed?

Luckily for Cole, the spirit was right. He did like Rita. The girl was inquisitive and knowledgeable, and their oddly similar goals only helped. How strange it was to find other worlds that shared such parallels.

"So she told me. Her interest in magic appears to center around the spirits of her world. She has treated you well then?" And not as an oddity to be stared at and questioned at every turn?

"I am trying it before it becomes a necessity. I do not wish to fumble when a crisis arises," he returns with a shake of his head. No doubt as a medic he would be required to answer it at times, no matter how low of a profile he tried to maintain.

It isn't fair. As much as the burden he has left her with, his own has grown heavier by knowing her. There hadn't been a true cost or something to lose in Thedas through his plans before now. Now he would have to meet her gaze as they fought to the end, forever at odds. Here would be a brief reprieve, and a dangerous one.

He makes a small sound of consideration. "If only you had convinced her to pursue an interest. I would have thought the image of being able to piss magic to be enough to amuse her into it," he replies, clearly quoting the other woman's distasteful phrasing. He and Sera had a strange sort of relationship to work around in the Inquisition.
lonesomewanderer: (so you don't suspect a thing)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-12 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That is, surprisingly, a slight relief to him. That meant no one need know he was here unless they saw him or caught word of his name. With Cole and the Inquisitor already here, he wonders if others far less likely to stay their swords would arrive.

"I will keep that in mind," he returns with a small nod. His gaze drifts to what he had seen when 9S had first approached, the exposed metal on the back of his leg. Unfamiliar to him, but it made some sort of sense in the context of what had been explained with the man's flying companion. "Have you been injured?"

"I don't know" Cole admits, with a little frown. There's not a book or a list or anything like that of things to do in the snow. There's just memories and traditions scattered here and there, all throughout people's minds.

"I know some of the snow things already, though. There's snowballs and snow sculptures." He knows that much just from home, by being around people (and more specifically, being around some of the more immature members of the Inquisition).
anti_nonsense: (yeah whatever)

[personal profile] anti_nonsense 2017-12-12 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. It's definitely working.

Rita watches 9S go down with her eyes narrowed, and sighs. "I'm not upset. I'm happy to miss out on making an idiot of myself." Like 9S is doing right now, and Cole... well, maybe not so much, but he does seem kind of off right now. Rita glances over to where he's pacing, curious.

"Everything has a weakness. One of them, we starved. The other we destroyed mentally." For two of the dragons, the weakness is each other. Or at least, each other's magic. He wonders what would have happened if Taimi hadn't worked out what would happen when they were both removed from the equation together.

"We formed a Pact against the dragons, the orders that already existed to fight them and all the races of Tyria." He folds his arms. "But destroying them was still... extremely costly."

The Pact was lacking strength, even more than before. Of course, Syrlya will always want to believe in what he and Trahearne worked to build... but he can't deny they need to rebuild, first, and he's worried if they have that time. He gaze drifts down briefly with a pensive frown. "I came here because I was hoping to find anything to help with a solution. We need a way to control the magic in Tyria, but we can't leave the dragons to be the ones to do it as they are."

[Whelp, it's time to preen himself, get those neck feathers cleaned and rearranged and nibbling gently at the spiky little pinfeathers. He can still talk, though, because he uses the syrinx in his chest rather than lips and tongue.]

Eh. I always used to be designated driver for a reason! That's, uh, that's the one who's sober and takes everyone home because if you drive drunk, you really super shouldn't drive drunk.

But birds can't drive.

At the phrase 'a gift for you,' Strange can't help but look a bit confused. He knows that gift giving is a thing in other people's worlds, even if Strange himself didn't really participate in it in his world (the perils of a shitty childhood, a small family, and marrying into an equally small family).

So that confused expression lingers for a moment before he gives 9S a little smile. A gift. Well, that's amazingly nice of him. Though if it's small enough for him to not worry about where to store it, that does pique Strange's curiosity.

"I've got a gift for you as well," Strange admits. "Though mine's at the cabin. Perhaps we can exchange gifts there?"

"I would be," Lambert agrees, "Because you'd get distracted by something else and forget about it if I left you alone." Strange is very good at remembering to do shit when it's relevant to his interests, but if it's not magic, the chances of it being left by the wayside are pretty fucking high.

It doesn't take long for the water to heat up and the tea to steep, and then Lambert ambles right back over with a glass of water for Strange. The fireball doesn't get even a blink,; the shining, multicolored smoke that starts to fill the air as he puffs on that joint? That's something else entirely.

"Nice light show," he comments, before nodding towards the living room -- or, well, the living room furniture that's been shoved over to one side to make room for the lab setup. "Come on, let's sit over there."

Because if he's babysitting Strange, he might as well do it lazing around o the comfort of a couch.

Strange is also distracted by the multicolored smoke for a brief moment. That's unexpected. Pleasant, but unexpected. His distraction swaps back to Lambert as the witcher gestures to what passes for the living room. And really, sitting down on a couch while getting high sounds like an amazing idea. Better that than the floor.

"This stuff is more potent than I expected," he idly remarks as he walks over to the couch. Strange takes another puff from the joint as he sits down. "I don't think I'm going to fall apart right away, but everything feels a little odd already."

Or, at least, that's how it feels to Strange, the man who's still a bit of a lightweight but has done so much drugs. He knows how to recognize the symptoms and this certainly feels like a symptom. The couch is a great idea.

If only her gods weren't false, she could have someone to blame. If only she could yell at him and beat her fists against his chest while she tells him she wishes Fen'harel would take him. But every aspect of her faith rings hollow, and the stories of the Dread Wolf simply ironic when faced with the subject of them. As it is, they only have themselves to blame.

Lavellan huffs a laugh at that, shaking her head as she keeps her strides even with Solas's. "I think the only thing she found amusing about the image was the idea of how undignified you must have looked. Although I am curious -- did you ever piss it? The fact you had to stop and think about it is troubling, you understand." She can't help but be amused by it all, and it must have happened during the youth he is so careful to distance himself from. As if he needed to -- that was no doubt thousands of years ago.

Ginko has sure killed more than six minutes.

Joker listens the entire time through, although not without some difficulty. Before, the poison would have been to blame for that. It's hard to concentrate on long stories when everything down to your very soul is bogged down. This time, it's a poison of an entirely different sort, although the booze is certainly doing what it needs to do. Unfortunately, it's all he can do is to remember to even keep track of the fact that Ginko is speaking. The lazy warmth of the spa probably isn't helping, quite frankly. Or maybe that's just the feel of Ginko's hands...

Still. He manages to keep himself awake (probably unlike Tyki) all the way to the end. It takes a few moments for him to gather up the wits required for speaking, but he manages in the end. "S'a.... good big sister. Very good." Sorry, Ginko, he's trying to nuzzle your hand again. Is that steam or tears on his face? Hard to tell.

"Oh!! Don't you dare," she huffs, the 'parental' act crippled by goobering tears. "This is the Supervisor's area you know, it's not just like you snuck around behind your own lot..! I..."

....Oh, to hell with it, she ends up thinking, abruptly pulling him over for a hug. "Oh.... ...I haven't even gotten you yours yet..!" Or, well. Finished, rather.

And that, finally, has her clam up. She is quiet, only for a moment-not with sadness, but rather blank and ponderous thought, before she frowns.

".....That's personal," she decides in the end. It was one thing when the source of her worries was actually there, a demon floating around in her shadow, grumbling at anyone passing by. Now however, he's very much not around, and if explaining her undeath was already hard, explaining that she was toting around a Demon God is...Worse. You must be LEVEL X FRIEND to unlock THAT backstory-

As it is. "...Sometimes, there are problems that you don't know can be fixed-we found a way to fix one of mine, and that's all that matters right now."

Fighting old magic always came at a cost. He's surprised they even managed to overcome one of the dragons much less more.

"Did you leave it up to the Ringmaster to solve your troubles?" he asks, studying Syrlya. Could the Ringmaster manage that, in a world far from her own? She had said anything could be received for the price of her contract, but the desire to control magic, to regulate it when they did not truly understand it--

The entire idea sounded foolish to him.

Syrlya smirks and shakes his head. "If I at all thought that was plausible, perhaps."

He understands better, now, how truly powerful the Fae are... but so are the dragons, and it's to their luck that their behaviors are so comparatively simple to mortal races, bent only around their hunger. "No, I asked for a replication of a conduit of magic that was once said to keep the magic in Tyria more regulated. I wanted to study it. I don't know if it is true or why they stopped working, but it was the best lead that I could think of."

He perks up. As dire as the situation back home is... "And there is a lot to learn from the way that magic exists in other worlds! Perhaps not all of it is applicable, but we really need every potential solution I can find to stabilize magic so it does not blow everything up without the elder dragons."

That, really, has made this whole ordeal already starting to look worth it. It was an unexpected boon, and he's pleased because things seem to so rarely turn out in his favor like that.
