⇨ WISMUTH ENDGAME

Who: Everyone!
When: Evening Day 27
Where: The Wismuth Super Dome, Round 2
What: On the verge of creating a world ending army of Harbingers, CY-Ren and her followers are challenged by the carnival and the Star Guardian team. It's time to stop.
Warnings: Singing

THE LAST REQUIEM

CY-Ren's planning of a charity concert has been well received - news of bomb threats and harassment from fans have painted her as a victim in the media spotlight, and her generous attempt to make amends is getting plenty of attention. She's been busy spinning things for as much focus as possible, and the threat of potential danger has the news focusing in on the proceedings. The date is set for Day 27 in carnival time. You won't want to miss it!

► BUILD UP: In the last couple days before the concert, CY-Ren will be reaching out to all of her Harbingers, regardless of where they might be at the time - yes, this means that even if you ran off, she'll come to find you! (Unless you're in the carnival like Taako, then you're fucked.) She'll tell you that her plans are coming to head, and that if you help her with one last task then the planet will be on its way to destruction. There are multiple ways you can aid her: you can help amp up her performance as evil backup singers/musicians, or you can set yourself up around the perimeter at specified locations, using your sparks as a beacon to her magic. She's certain that she's perfected her musical formula, this time - when the concert gets underway, all those present with the capacity to be a Harbinger will awaken, and the end of days will begin.

► THE CONCERT: By the time the concert arrives, the Star Guardians will have the idea that there's something unnatural about the way the new Harbingers were made - this isn't how it usually happens, and that sets them apart from someone like CY-Ren. Maybe that means that they can be pulled away with less drastic measures as well, given that the Void didn't have the full right to their souls in the first place. Anyone coming to help (and those who aren't Star Guardians will be encouraged to come as well, given that if they are making attempts at friendship, super powers aren't required) will gather in the area early, determined to stomp this one out before it can get too far.

► HARBINGERS: This is when they will be encountered by Harbingers guarding the perimeter, as well as a small army of void creatures defending CY-Ren's last performance. Star Guardians will become aware through the power of Creation that the Harbingers on the perimeter must be neutralized in order to disrupt the concert - CY-Ren is feeding on their negative energies, and it will make it too dangerous to attack her directly. Confrontations with any Harbingers can be worked out on an individual basis via plotting - just make up a location around the concert and have your Harbinger providing a beacon of their own design.

As the concert ramps up, however, the excess of Void energy will cause the newly made Harbingers to destabilize - mentally or magically, their powers will be harder to control, and their negative emotions will be running wild. However, with that instability, there is also room for a breakthrough - for someone to blast the darkness from their Sparks with friendship and light. Now is the time to reach out.

► STAR GUARDIANS: If a Harbinger is successfully turned away from the darkness, they will briefly regain control of their Sparks, and be able to manifest as a Star Guardian for the first time. This will allow the Guardians to outnumber CY-Ren's forces. Their look and powers will still be based around the same Spark, but purified by Creation and aimed towards positive things. Time to win.

► DANCE OFF: Given that the Spark of Music and the Spark of Dance are colliding, it is perhaps not a surprise that this all manifests as a big ass musical number. As CY-Ren and Noa have a music battle, everyone present (even if you aren't a Star Guardian) will find themselves magically inspired to join in. You can dance, sing, or anything in between - the more people who support Noa's side, the stronger she will be. There will be a megathread for this part of the conflict, and at this point any unturned Harbingers will awaken and be able to turn their Sparks towards the light. As CY-Ren begins to lose power, what the players do with her will be up to you.

Baker has vanished with the rest of the cards, for now, which is undoubtedly a good thing. They don't need a giant rampaging dog blasting fire everywhere right now, assuming the worse has befallen his master and definitely not giving Lambert space or time to be grossly sappy over this mess (or maybe just grossly sappy while also on fire, who knows).

As it is, Yuya's... right. Perhaps not in beating this, not yet, but all the talk about 'getting through to' the Harbingers before, because when Lambert trails off, the magician will have fallen still, all save for his own grip tightening on the witcher's hand, just a little. Is he listening? He sure doesn't seem awake, but with all the magic that's involved...

The void energy pent up inside him is finally beginning to weaken, however. That much is a definite fact.

Chances are, if Lambert was properly aware of the other two, he wouldn’t even get this much out. Feelings, emotions ... yeah, witchers aren’t as devoid of those as it’s convenient for him to pretend, but that doesn’t make them any easier to deal with. As it is, the nearly imperceptible tightening of fingers on his own — small enough a motion to make it feel like reflex rather than a conscious action — makes Lambert’s head jerk up, eyes searching his face. No answers there ... but apparently no pain, either.

Since rambling senselessly like this doesn’t seem to hurt... well, Lambert’s just going to keep on going, for lack of anything better to do.

“You’re probably right, too, about nobody thanking you when you get home ... but you’re wrong about the last thing. About not getting to keep me.” He pauses for a breath, and even under the dark bristle of his fur, there’s no hiding how even his ears redden as he plows onward before he can regret this. “I’ll follow you across worlds if I have to. You’re not getting rid of me that easy because — because I want to keep you, too.”

Yuya's expression withers a little at Rita's incredulity, frowning as he wordlessly nudges her. Don't be like that, they're in love!

... Or at least, Lambert is in love, but Yuya's not imagining this as one sided. He shoots frequent, short glances to Childermass in hopes of seeing him respond, or rouse, or something.

Who is this lovestruck fool, and what has he done with Lambert?

—Don’t nudge her like that, Yuya, this is super weird!!

But while she’s glancing to and away from the spectacle, Rita notices something. “The Void... it’s weakening.” Is Childermass fighting it himself? Or... it seems impossible, but is this working?

Could be one, could be the other, could be both, but whichever it is, it is working, to the point where Creation begins to overwhelm the Void. Rita's about to witness a Spark going Star Guardian and it may be a little blinding! Both in the invisible magical realm of sight and, inevitably, the real, physical realm of sight.

Lambert finishes his embarrassing rambling and there's only a pause between the end of that and Childermass's Harbinger costume beginning to glow. It starts at a low light at first but quickly becomes a bright burst, not unlike Yuya's light bubbles or Pig's own blinding explosions.

It's super weird and uncomfortable for everyone involved, all right? Most of all for Lambert himself!

Rita's words give him a surge of hope, but Lambert's immediately distracted as Childermass starts to glow (is he going to explode?!) and he has to take a hand up off his chest to shield his eyes instinctively, even though his goggles do cut off the worst of the flash.

Yuya is, apparently, the only one not uncomfortable about someone bleeding their sappy feelings everywhere.

Yuya also squints behind his goggles as the light grows, torn between leaning back and leaning forward. He does perk up considerably either way, holding onto the hope that this is Childermass' recovery. It doesn't feel as dark of an energy as the beacon did, or anything else from the Harbingers--this has to be something else.
anti_nonsense: (what the actual shit)

[personal profile] anti_nonsense 2018-03-20 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Rita has no such dilemma; she leans forward, because unlike Lambert's displays of affection, this is something she wants to see, even if she has to squint against the light.

"His Spark... it's been purified...!" she cries, unable to hide her elation. Not only does this mean they've succeeded, and Childermass is going to be okay, but she gets to witness a Spark's transformation up close! How many magic scholars can say they've seen this before!?

And as the light fades, it'll become apparent Childermass's Harbinger costume has been altered along with the Spark, going from black with blue highlights to white with the same — if brighter — highlights. Really not his color, but that's the least of his complaints at this moment.

He sighs and opens his eyes, only to squint up at Lambert and frown. After hearing something like that, one might assume you'd smile, but no, of course not.

"You... look terrible," is the line the Guardian of Fortune opens with because, unlike Lambert, he doesn't need to make lovestruck confessions to bring anyone back.
whattaprick: (don't know why you're not h-a-p-p-y)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2018-03-20 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
And that assessment — so quintessentially Childermass, something he’s sorely been lacking for almost two damn weeks now — Lambert can only bark a short, harsh laugh.

“We can’t all look good,” he answers, nonsensically, as he sags in relief... only to grimace, because yeah, he’s still busted up. Childermass’s transformation has also conveniently cleaned him of whatever blood Lambert got on him, that lucky fuck, so Lambert’s the only one left looking like shit. As usual.

There's a seconds long pause, and then Yuya looks relieved. He unwinds his arms and leans forward, pulling his goggles up and grinning as he looks down at Childermass. Even without Rita's words, the costume change makes it obvious enough what happened.

Mostly, though, Yuya's just glad to have him back to his usual self. "Childermass! You're back!" He laughs a little. It really worked--he didn't realize he was holding his breath that they'd be able to save anyone until they actually did.
anti_nonsense: (wait lemme see that)

[personal profile] anti_nonsense 2018-03-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Rita has to rub her eyes, because as it turns out, trying to stare through a blinding light is not her brightest idea.

Still, as soon as her vision clears up even a little, she looks over the new Guardian's costume with fascination. She doesn't say anything, but there's a distinct softening of her expression. Rita's every bit as relieved as the rest of them.

"We can't all sit around bleeding to death, either," Childermass points out before pushing himself up to sit. He spares one look down at what he's wearing and wrinkles his nose, clearly displeased, but, again, it's the least of his problems right now. "And yes, I am."

He adds that, looking over towards Yuya with a faint smile.

"Though as much as I imagine we could sit around and talk about just that, I think we're expected at a concert."

Which is to say, time to go.

Yeah, well, he’s doing pretty well considering. A normal human probably couldn’t have survived that. Nonetheless.

“Head wounds bleed a lot,” he answers automatically, falling back into old habits instantly. Childermass is up, he’s talking... he hopefully doesn’t actually remember anything Lambert said in the past five minutes. “It looks worse than it is.”

You can’t fight,” Pig points out calmly, like the traitor she is, before she turns her attention to the others. “You should go ahead. There are still other Harbingers to purify.

Yuya nods to both of those sentiments. "Yugo is probably a beacon, too... so I still have to save him."

So he can;'t quite attend the concert, yet, either. But that's fine--now that he knows it can be done, he's completely confident that he can bring Yugo around. He flicks his gaze to Lambert, looking his expression shifting briefly to be more concerned. "You should get some help, right? Do you have healing magic?"

That's a little weird to say versus 'bandage', but Lambert knows magic, and they're all knee deep in magic shit right now.
anti_nonsense: (That's the logical outcome.)

"The other beacons should be near the venue, so we should probably start heading that way, anyway," Rita points out.

She casts a glance across the roof, then back to the others. "If we're going back down to street level, I'm taking the elevator," she informs them. Because no way in hell is she going back down the way they got up here, and even with her flying capabilities, she'd really rather not try it.

"He doesn't," Childermass answers for Lambert as he moves on to getting to his feet. For all the potions witchers have, he's yet to hear of one that heals that much damage immediately, and if the witcher in question doesn't like him answering for him, that's too bad.

Though he is doing so for a reason, not just to speak for someone else. Once up, he'll pull his deck of cards -- now white and gold -- from out of thin air.

"But I do. That and a way to the concert, however..."

He's going to do this first, drawing from the middle of his tarot deck and holding the card in hand high up over his head, letting it go once up there. It's the World and it dissipates into far too many sparkles that move and spread out all across the roof, settling on everyone and everything. It won't stay, of course, all those little lights flickering away into whatever it lands upon.

A more obvious effect for those uninjured will be the dents and broken parts of the roof pulling themselves back together but, more importantly, those same sparkles will have a similar effect on people, though through healing rather than repair.

[personal profile] whattaprick 2018-03-21 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Lambert definitely can't argue about not having healing magic, although he would say it's less that he doesn't have a good argument and more that he happened to be out of breath when Childermass answered, that's all!

But before he can whine any further -- the spell is cast, the motes of light sinking into him. The magic knits together broken bone and seals torn flesh, mending so neatly it doesn't even leave a scar, a cool balm on nerves Lambert hadn't even really registered were screaming for his attention. Even Pig benefits from the spell, the scorch marks along her chrome surface disappearing as well.

It all happens rather quickly, leaving Lambert briefly stunned at the bright display of magic so unlike Childermass's Void spells ... but almost immediately, he scowls as he pushes himself to his feet.

"If you could do that, why didn't you heal yourself?!"

Yuya's not terribly banged up, but he notices it a little. At that he rises to his feet. They'll all be all right. So will everyone else, too.

He's also, admittedly, not super keen on riding a motorcycle down 39 flights, either, so he gives Childermass a hopeful look. "Can you take us to the ground with shadows?"

Rita was pretty eager to get going, but if anything can convince her to stick around and wait a little longer, it's a display of magic she's never seen before. She holds a hand out as the sparkles trickle down around them, as if reaching to catch a snowflake.

"Incredible..." she murmurs, watching as the spell mends the roof as well as Lambert's wounds.

It's an encouraging sight, at any rate. If Childermass has a way to the concert, Rita's listening. She folds her arms and faces him, curious to see what he's got in mind.
atouts: (019; le jugement)

[personal profile] atouts 2018-03-22 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, Lambert would find a reason to squawk in complaint. It wouldn't matter how useful the spell was or not. To which Childermass, naturally, gives him a short-lived look of surprise, soon after followed by him rolling his eyes away and shuffling his cards.

"It didn't work quite like that before," he answers as if that should make any sense at all. It does to him, anyway, already feeling which cards have changed under his fingers as he prepares to draw again. That's really all that matters, doesn't it? So after looking up again just to double-check that Lambert is really fine (apart from being mad), he'll turn to Yuya.

"And not quite the shadows. This," and he draws another card. "Will do just as well."

It's the Lovers, a card Lambert has seen before, along with the effects. Card in hand, he immediately throws it to the rooftop, where it lights up. He can use it to send people away but it's only as random or as controlled as he feels it should be. It'll take them not only 39 flights back to the ground, but all the way to the next nearest beacon, whoever that might belong to. Knowing he's the Guardian of Fortune now, it may very well be near Yugo, simply out of sheer (supernatural) good luck.
whattaprick: (sup gorgeous?)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2018-03-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
It is a card Lambert recognizes, and he takes a half-step back when he sees it, eyes narrowing at Childermass. He certainly won't hurry to be the first to go through, not after seeing what it did to Pig -- maybe he's better off chancing the 39-story plummet? -- but he nods at Yuya. Since he's the one with a destination and a Harbinger in mind, he supposes, they should follow his lead.

Yuya looks between Childermass and the card once before nodding and stepping toward the light. He's certainly not going to waste time now, there's so many people to save. There's a world to save.

Well, that sure looks a lot more promising than some of their other options.

Rita pauses to give Childermass a brief approving look, a small smile of relief on her face. She then follows Yuya toward the card.
