What: The carnival arrives at book world. First week, they'll be performing for magical manifestations of book characters. Second week, it's time to hunt (for books, in the library.) Around Day 58 some stuff will occur.

FAERIE TALES↴ Though the carnival will be performing for its guests in the first week, they are welcome to search the Athenaeum while they are off duty during that time. The manifestations of story characters will be out in full force during performance week, with animals, people, objects, and even locations growing out from various tales. Most are distracting at worst, and will be curious to check out the carnival. Some, however, can be as dangerous as they were in their stories of origin. You know what to do. ► IT'S TIME TO ROLEPLAY: The best way to deal with book ghosts is to follow their narrative to its logical conclusion - turn the tables, work the story so it ends in your favour! Naturalistic and narratively satisfying plotting will have the manifestations following your lead. However, push too hard and introduce too many plot holes, inconsistencies, or illogical plot twists, and they will reject your reality utterly, becoming quite aggressive in the process. You can also use your natural abilities and powers to fight them in a traditional sense, but in the Ringmaster's experience, it's best to fight reality benders by bending reality right back at them. If you aren't careful, it's possible to be dragged fully into a story's reality, and then things get really messed up. ► IT'S ALSO TIME TO READ: The carnival came here for a purpose, and that purpose is to research. Specifically, the Ringmaster is looking for information on the Queen's Miracles - the set of ancient fae artifacts that the Blue Rose is one of. The carnival needs these artifacts to defend itself, but nobody knows where they've been for thousands of years. That's what the books are for. However, nothing is stopping you from pursuing knowledge for personal reasons. The halls are open to your perusal, and only your heart can guide you to the book you truly seek. Check the plot post to see what's allowed, and sign up to find plot info or other important game information below.

⇨ INVESTIGATIONS

Not all locations will have much to investigate, necessarily, but this is the section where people can make investigation requests for if their character wants to learn more about a setting than is immediately apparent. This can also be used to cover the broad strokes of interacting with various available NPCS.

Like before, you must be specific about what your character is doing to find new information, and you must keep your requests to one or two actions per comment. No big laundry lists of things your character is doing - it is much easier to handle taking it one topic at a time.

THE BOOK FAIR↴ Fill out the form below to have your character submitted to find valuable game plot or magic related information. As stated, information about your personal canon or stuff not pertaining to the game plot doesn't need to be rolled for, unless you are trying to find something innately valuable, like a book with magic spells or anything that could lead in in-game power. If you want to look for that, submit a search here, and dice will be rolled to see what you get. For plot information we will be using RNG to determine who receives which pre-written manuscripts with potentially plot relevant information. Some are about a page in length, many will be shorter. All have some pertinence to the plot, but it may not be clear what it is. Try not to dump all of your characters on here at once, and stick to one character until other people have had a go. But mostly, she really wants to understand that book. Oop.

Heart's Intent: ostensibly, he's searching for info about the Queen's Miracles. In his heart, what he wants to search for is equal parts info on that, cursebreaking, and Nightshade.

Heart's Intent: He's looking for stuff on angels and nephilim. In his hearts he's still looking for that, maybe seeing if the seraph his AU angel-self served (the Dove of God, Iuliael was their agent on Earth but lost power in the Severing) is only a big deal in that particular Heaven. But more about their powers and abilities and relationship with Faerie is also good, his angel memories are a little weird.

QUEEN'S MIRACLES,

Heart's Intent: He isn't searching with any sort of anxious need to know, so much as idle curiosity, so his interests are going to loop from important plot stuff to dumb shit he thinks is funny and back around at a lazy pace. He's really just looking for anything that'll stir up the Carnival.

QUEEN'S MIRACLES, FIGHTING THE FAE

Heart's Intent: More than anything, Rita wants to find a way to fight against the fae as a mortal. A weapon, a spell, a method...? Since the Queen's Miracles could help in that regard, she's genuinely eager to find information on them.

Heart's Intent: His heart is in looking for the Queen's Miracles because he doesn't want to be blindsided by ignorance no matter who obtains them. Since they are objects containing high levels of magic within them, he's interested in finding more about how they were made and their true nature in addition to where to find the other two.

Heart's Intent: On the surface, and what he’ll be looking for, Lambert wants to know how to break or avert fae curses. In the beginning, there was Man and there was Beast. The Beast lived in harmony with Creation and Void, prospering when Creation allowed it and perishing when the Void declared it so. Mankind, however, built a foundation of civilization and of technology, shaping the world to suit its needs. Seeing the Beast as a slave to its reality, Man took its place as ruler, subjugating the Beast to its will. Seeing this, the great Nephalem Lilith desired to free the Beast from its lot - to give it the power to create its own ruler. A ruler who was just, who was wise, and who was free of both Darkness and Light. For while Darkness could threaten to consume all, even Light could cast shadows.

Queen's Miracles

Heart's Intent: ...But, to be more specific, he'll be looking for something on "Sun And Shade", or things to do with Heaven. As Creation approached its adolescence, its infant worlds began to birth materials not found in the homes of the the First Peoples - as their resonance transformed and intermingled, entirely new realities came to be. The most threatening of these was the creation of their Opposing Metals. In these metals that Arcadia, Heaven, and Hell all found their bane. For no metal pained a Fae like the touch of Iron, nor burned a Demon like a lash of Silver. Even Angelic passage could be blocked and contained with the presence of Lead. The arbiters of Creation found themselves scorned by the worlds made in their image. This, they would not forgive.

It was uncommon for the Faerie Folk to rise above their nature - it was in this way that the Mother of Invention was a marvel in of herself. Even Arcadia had its weaknesses, she thought, and to not rise above them is to be a slave to them. It was in this spirit that she sought to transcend the limitations of her kind, refusing to accept only the magical gifts she had been born with. As one of the Winter Court, she would harness the power of fire, stealing its service from Summer. She would take the fragile souls of mortals and lift them into her arms, saving them from their impurities and revealing their true potential. Yet, most of all, what she craved was to defy the weaknesses of her own flesh, her own spirit. She would spent eons chasing the answer to this problem, searching for the method that would make the Court of Winter truly undying. Even the Faerie Folk feared the prick of Iron, but the Mother would fear nothing.
