⇨ THE PRINCE IS DEAD

When: Day 178 - B1: Day 6
Where: The Carnival and sometimes on top of the Heart of Stone.
What: Now that the Prince is dead and gone, there's a lot left to sort out. As the remaining servants are liberated and those captured by the Prince are tended to, it's time for recovery and goodbyes.
Warnings: Nothing in particular.
When: Day 178 - B1: Day 6

What: Now that the Prince is dead and gone, there's a lot left to sort out. As the remaining servants are liberated and those captured by the Prince are tended to, it's time for recovery and goodbyes.

HOME GROUND↴ At long last, it is over. The Prince is dead, and all of his stolen Names have been restored - all that's left to do is treat the wounds and move on. For the first day or two, the Ringmaster will be arranging passage for the servants that are left, all of which have remembered their names for the first time in years. The earth elemental that had been trapped and forced to serve as the Prince's manor, the Heart of Stone, is happy to help for the moment. It appreciates the Ringmaster's mercy, and is free after untold eons of imprisonment. Yet, there are plenty of aspects that are far from simple. There are still servants left mad and transformed into beasts, with no easy way to change them back. The Prince's spells outlive him, and those bearing his poison and his curses will have a difficult road ahead of them. Though most of the bestial servants have been rounded up, and a large number that had been reduced to unmoving statues returned, even the Ringmaster can't return them to normal so simply. The next week is for rest and for settling remaining affairs. If you want to bid farewell to any particular NPCs, or assure care is given where it's needed, now is the time to do it. ► A CURE: The Ringmaster will tell everyone simply - there is no simple way to undo another fae's magic. The Prince's powers were essentially on par with hers, which means that those who have been transformed to stone and those that were cursed into beasts and driven insane are not something she can trivially fix. It will take the work of the carnival and a couple weeks of treatment to shed the curse of stone, and the maddened servants are an entirely separate matter. She will do what she can, but for the most part she is arranging for the Prince's servants to be cared for elsewhere. At least for now, the Ringmaster will be animating the stone portions of people's bodies with magic, though those portions will still be a bit clumsy and numb feeling. ► THE NEW HEARTSTONE: In the absence of the prince, the Heart of Stone will be taking over the remains of the Prince's realm and preventing it from collapsing into void. As it turns out, the manor had been an earth elemental all along - a form of Wyld Fae almost on par to the Prince and Ringmaster themselves. How the Heart of Stone was enslaved is a long story presumably, but the Ringmaster considers it to be a sign of the Prince's own depravity. The Heart will be allowing visitors for the first couple days of this period through the portal, but keep in mind you are essentially just walking around on its body. At least the realm has a floor, now, instead an endless abyss surrounding it. |

"So what is YoRHa supposed to be for, exactly?"

9S salutes, left hand over his heart. "We're the latest generation of androids manufactured to fight in the war against the machine lifeforms. We take pride in our service." He lets his hand drop to his side. "Once the machines are eradicated, then the humans on the moon can come back to their home on Earth."
...But if the fake 2B's words are true, then there's no YoRHa left to do any of that.
"What did 2B tell you, anyway?"

"Bits and pieces. I wasn't really in a state to ask a lot of important questions." She might have instead spent several minutes trying to put 2B into a logical paradox with little success.
"She told me that machines and androids are different."

At the mention of machines, though, 9S' expression turns sour. "We're worlds apart," 9S says emphatically. "The machines are our enemy and don't have anything like feelings and emotions. Their logic circuits are too simple for complex thought."

She could see how if they machines were self-replicating they would pose a problem even if they weren't actively malicious.

"They're the creations of the aliens that invaded Earth thousands of years ago. They're mindless automatons, killing androids and humans until the humans had to flee to the moon."
Technically, the knowledge that aliens are dead is supposed to be a secret. He'd been ordered to keep quiet about it.
...Oh, who cares? It's hard to be loyal to YoRHa's Command after learning what they did to him.
"The machines killed their alien creators, too. Totally wiped them out. So now it's just us androids and the machine lifeforms, locked in constant war."

Let's change the subject to something that definitely isn't a big deal.
"So why did 2B change her name?"

"She told you?" 9S unintentionally raises his voice, a mixture of anger and hurt in his voice.
This human was told, just like that? He had to drag that information out of 2B! It had been a stressful night for both of them. And this human was just told?
"Do you even know what she is?"

"Y-yes, sort of? I-" She unintentionally stepped back, retreating from the anger.
"She's- she's an android? Right? She was an Executor but she changed it to Battler instead." She had made a lucky guess, because Executor sounded cool, and 2B had confessed.

At a more reasonable volume, he says, "...Yeah. She's an Executioner, designed to kill androids on orders from Command." 9S' hands curl into fists. "She's a Battler so her targets won't know they're to be executed. And she..." his voice falters, as he looks away, "...She didn't want to do it anymore."

She... admittedly is having some trouble here. Do androids die if you kill them? 9S had mentioned something about her personality and memories being unique so... maybe it would be possible to save those, but for some reason 'command' didn't? Or maybe... it wasn't something you could backup on a harddrive? Maybe the way they learned and grew and experienced had to be organic.
Maybe she needed to completely rethink how she was conceptualizing these androids.
"I'm sorry, I... didn't know."

There's a bit of an awkward pause.
"Anyway, I think she prefers 2B over her actual designation. It suits her better, too." She'll always be 2B to him. He puts on a smile. "She's waaay better at fighting than I am."

"Really? Then she must be really good, because that was pretty great! It would have taken me way longer to do that to all those dummies."

"Connie! Connie Maheswaran! And yeah, I was taught how to fight by my mentor, Pearl. I'm not as good as you, though. And definitely not as good as 2B."
