⇨ THE PRINCE IS DEAD

Who: Everyone!
When: Day 178 - B1: Day 6
Where: The Carnival and sometimes on top of the Heart of Stone.
What: Now that the Prince is dead and gone, there's a lot left to sort out. As the remaining servants are liberated and those captured by the Prince are tended to, it's time for recovery and goodbyes.
Warnings: Nothing in particular.

HOME GROUND

At long last, it is over. The Prince is dead, and all of his stolen Names have been restored - all that's left to do is treat the wounds and move on. For the first day or two, the Ringmaster will be arranging passage for the servants that are left, all of which have remembered their names for the first time in years. The earth elemental that had been trapped and forced to serve as the Prince's manor, the Heart of Stone, is happy to help for the moment. It appreciates the Ringmaster's mercy, and is free after untold eons of imprisonment.

Yet, there are plenty of aspects that are far from simple. There are still servants left mad and transformed into beasts, with no easy way to change them back. The Prince's spells outlive him, and those bearing his poison and his curses will have a difficult road ahead of them. Though most of the bestial servants have been rounded up, and a large number that had been reduced to unmoving statues returned, even the Ringmaster can't return them to normal so simply.

The next week is for rest and for settling remaining affairs. If you want to bid farewell to any particular NPCs, or assure care is given where it's needed, now is the time to do it.

A CURE: The Ringmaster will tell everyone simply - there is no simple way to undo another fae's magic. The Prince's powers were essentially on par with hers, which means that those who have been transformed to stone and those that were cursed into beasts and driven insane are not something she can trivially fix. It will take the work of the carnival and a couple weeks of treatment to shed the curse of stone, and the maddened servants are an entirely separate matter. She will do what she can, but for the most part she is arranging for the Prince's servants to be cared for elsewhere. At least for now, the Ringmaster will be animating the stone portions of people's bodies with magic, though those portions will still be a bit clumsy and numb feeling.

THE NEW HEARTSTONE: In the absence of the prince, the Heart of Stone will be taking over the remains of the Prince's realm and preventing it from collapsing into void. As it turns out, the manor had been an earth elemental all along - a form of Wyld Fae almost on par to the Prince and Ringmaster themselves. How the Heart of Stone was enslaved is a long story presumably, but the Ringmaster considers it to be a sign of the Prince's own depravity. The Heart will be allowing visitors for the first couple days of this period through the portal, but keep in mind you are essentially just walking around on its body. At least the realm has a floor, now, instead an endless abyss surrounding it.

That gives him pause. He glances away for a moment, letting that settle in. Is there anything he needs to talk about? He's not sure if there's anything he has the words for.

"...Well... I guess I kind of already told you about my second mom and all that stuff!"

He didn't really get into the nitty gritty or anything, but... at least he explained some of it, instead of nothing at all.

Something was tugging at Connie, something she felt like-

It was bugging her. Like something she only partially remembered, and it was leaving her with a significantly unsettling feeling, and it seemed to be- about Steven?

That was terrible, why would she be mad at Steven?

"Just- take your time, Steven," she said, possibly more for her benefit than for Stevens.

"Where can I, uh- get a drink of water?"

"Oh, um," he snaps out of whatever he was thinking about. He pushes some of the stuff from the closet aside, and then goes over to the small kitchenette, reaching into the cupboards for a glass. "Right here! I'll get you some..."

The turn in her emotions makes him uneasy too, though. He has no idea why she suddenly feels a bit twisted - even if she knew, all he feels is the shift in tension, the rising discomfort. Naturally, he assumes that she's feeling nervous about being in the carnival at all.

Sometimes stuff from home feels too far away to even contemplate.

"Oh, sorry, no not that water," she said, trying to make up a lie, which she was Not Good At.

"Let me see if I can find some uh... bottled water." She half-winces when she says it, because she's made it very clear in the past her strong feelings about the bottled water industry and it's negative effects on indigenous peoples.

Maybe Steven won't remember? She's gonna start heading for the trailer door anyway.

"Um, okay," he says, and starts following her to door, cluelessly failing to receive any kind of hint. He can feel that something is wrong, but he doesn't know that it has to do with him, so he doesn't really want to just leave her alone if she's feeling bad.

He doesn't manage to remember about the bottled water thing, at least for the moment. It isn't really what he's thinking about.

"We can ask at the Cookhouse to see if they have any?"

Connie sighed. Steven was so nice, he didn't want to leaver her alone. She was just being silly, anyway.

"No, nevermind, tap water is fine." She tried to take a deep breath and push the feeling away, taking the water and sitting down.

She looked at the cup of water. "We have running water in these? Is it typical for trailers to have their own plumbing system?" She's never been in an RV before.
starseedling: (if you read this then you are a cutie)

"Oh," Steven says, looking back to the glass he'd just emptied. "Sure!" He runs back over to the counter and starts filling up the glass again, smiling a little to try to put her at ease.

Despite the lingering feelings of ill ease, Steven takes the question to be a sign that things are still cool.

"I think usually they just have a water tank or something! Dad always kept a big water jug in the van when we were away from the car wash. I don't know how this place works, though... it never seems to run out! Probably water magic."

Magic is the answer to most mysteries here.

"I don't think we should be content to just leave it at 'magic'! I think physics just has different rules here, but it has rules nonetheless."

She just had no idea what they were.

"So... what's your schedule like? For your performance job?"
starseedling: (unrealistic expectations about hair)

[personal profile] starseedling 2017-11-24 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Probably!" Steven agrees, rubbing his chin. He honestly thinks there are rules to it, he just doesn't pretend to be the sort of person who is going to understand them without provocation. There seems to be a craft to it, anyway. "All the stuff I've done just sort of happens."

He's a little bit defeated by that last question.

"Uh... well, usually I do practices in the morning and perform during the afternoon and evening, when it's a performance week. It's one week on one week off, most of the time. Except, we didn't do any performing at all during the time at the Manor, so now I'm not sure. I just work in the medical tent when I'm not doing any of that stuff..."

"Who's the 'lead' performer? Who decides when performances are on and such?"

If it's anything like her situation, where her boss is currently out of commission, maybe Steven should think about putting on a show himself.
