⇨ THE LUNAR SOLSTICE

Who: Everyone!
When: Winter Breaks: Day 6 - Day 25
Where: THE MOON
What: The carnival journeys to one of its moons to celebrate the Lunar Solstice. More information here.
Warnings: Winter fun.

MOON WALKING

The journey to the moon only takes a blink of an eye, but it leaves the carnival far away beneath you. The second moon can be seen on the peripheral, massive compared to its usual view. At least when the holidays start out, there will be no notable wildlife on the moon, though this is something you can talk to the Ringmaster about if you think it needs a change. It sounds like this is the first time she's used it in quite a while - it probably needs some dusting off!

Claim your cabins, and proceed to... well, do whatever you want! There is no rush and little obligation, besides to enjoy yourself. For real, this time. She promises there will be no vampires. Or, at least, none that don't already work for the carnival.

CABINS: Living arrangements are character choice for this event, and there are a variety of cabins of various sizes, mostly built to house 2-6 people, though you can fit more in if you squish. They are all made of wood and of a rustic design - no fancy modern furniture, here! Each building is housed with a fireplace and the needed amenities. You can pick up materials to cook with the private kitchens if you like. Theoretically, you could spend the whole holiday sequestered away, watching the snow fall. Some of them also have outdoor hot tubs available!

ACTIVITIES: Activities are mostly going to be character driven, though there will be some large group games like bingo and maybe a poker tournament happening at some point in one of the festival halls. Otherwise, there is a lot to offer: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, ice sculpting, snowball fights - it goes on! If you'd like to run a winter activity, just let the mods know, and we will get the word out there for you.

FEASTING: Every day isn't a full-out feast because that would get a bit unhealthy, but there will be a number of specific feast events over the holidays where everyone is encouraged to let out their inner hedonist and stuff themselves. There will be one big feast per week, with smaller but also delicious meals offered in between. The feast dates will be B12, B18, and B24. There's also plenty of alcohol available for anyone who wants it.

SHOPPING: As mentioned in the planning post, there is a massive market being run by the World Walker Caravan! The Ringmaster has given everyone 1250 credits to spend on items, but there is a caveat - must spend at least 500 of those credits on gifts for other people. And it better be a good one, if you only buy one! (She will ask that you do not buy her presents, however. She appreciates the sentiment, but it seems sort of silly buying her things with her own money! If you'd like to gift her, please have it be something more personal or handmade, but you are not obligated to get her anything at all.)

TREATMENTS: The beginning of the holidays will also be about the time that the emergency Medical Team will have finalized their treatments for the Prince's poisoning. Watch out for further information on that - and make sure to get treated if you are suffering from petrification or poison induced illness! The holidays will be a lot more fun that way.

He had left. A betrayal that hurt far more than anything else ever good. It was a warning he had given the Inquisitor once and he wished the necessity of his plan hadn't required it. He wouldn't defend himself in that, it would do little now.

"You are," Solas agrees with a small smile. "It was after the celebration of the Inquisition's victory that you found yourself at a ball here?"
lonesomewanderer: (slightly sad about having emotions oh no)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-07 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a reluctance borne from so long of being careful of what he shared with others. It was a hard line to walk, but with someone new it was easier to set firmly. He nods and stands with his own device in hand.

His name, however, he could offer. He had the other man's after all even if it was strange. "Solas." His gaze shifts from 9S to the flying robot behind him. "And what is that, if you do not mind my asking?"

Because Solas has lived through a lot, but medieval fantasy has always been greatly lacking in robots.
lonesomewanderer: (probably talking about something)

As far as he was concerned, his path was set. There was no other way this could end. He would either die at her or another's hand and fail or he would live long enough to see the Veil ripped asunder. What came after that was a reality he would face if he managed in his goals. He knows the woman beside him would do all she could to prevent it once they returned to Thedas. If she were wiser, she would try to finish him off here before he could serve out his contract.

But they had both muddled this. The line between them was blurry and had long since been ignored in many ways.

"A task you have more than enough experience for, but a waste of your talents." She was far more intelligent and extraordinary to be dealing with common squabbles. He would think a magical carnival would have a better use for her.

"They have healers that use other means?" At a magic carnival? It seemed counterintuitive, but he wasn't the one charge here. The mention of magic has him interested. With all the types he had seen already in the fae alone, he can only imagine what other wanderers that have arrived here could do. At his core he has always appreciated the act of learning and sharing that knowledge. He watches Syrlya curiously.

"Would you be willing to give a demonstration? When we are not at a feast," he adds, gesturing around at the others. A crowded room with people eating and drinking did not make for the most open of places to show off.
lonesomewanderer: (varric what are you doing)

"Starting can feel smaller than the accomplishment of it truly is." For he knows others who could not lay claim to any sort of simply magic. Being cut off from it as many were in Thedas and fearing it had led to a degradation of an ability that should be as easy as breathing to him.

It's the qualifier that catches his attention and he raises a brow as he asks, "Pretty much?" How does one be 'pretty much' human?

Foster turns to blink at Flowey, his face all wide blue eyes and open surprise at being addressed--especially with that. Not the tone or delivery--those are expected and normal. Welcomed. But the content... he manages to contain his compulsion to laugh.

"Sans," he replies finally, his voice... measured. His eyes are actually very large, almost childishly so, when they are actually held fully open. It's just... rare.

He studies Flowey closely.

"What about Papyrus?" Flowey just said he wouldn't tell, of course. But people often have ways of telling him things... without saying them.

Lambert's laughter is loud and boyish, even if the fact that it's at 9S's expense means the slight edge of mockery is unavoidable. He's been in a good mood since the cure kicked in, almost too good, really, even 9S has probably noticed in the glimpses he may have caught of him as they've gone about settling into the winter vacation.

"Too bad," he grins. "You'll never learn everything about humans that way." Of course, that over-curiosity is only funny when it's directed at people who aren't him. Nonetheless, he won't give 9S more than a few moments to sputter before he continues.

"Maybe she'll be less likely to punch you if you bribe her with a gift first. Have you figured out all that stuff yet?"

"Figure skating...?" He's honestly not sure what that is, but before he can ask in more detail he's distracted imagining some kind of snow sculpture that also functions as an attraction.

"Oh, maybe some kind of... Ice castle, or something! And they can explore it and stuff, and maybe it's even a maze, like the mirror maze, but it's ice and snow so it's even more fun than that one? And so then only the walls have to be ice, the ground can be snow, so people won't slip, but it would look so cool and be really fun!"

Foster knew Reira was... around... because he could tell his sparrow was 'around.' But the exact location of the child wasn't really a priority, so he's still halfway surprised when she turns up to talk to him.

"Oh, those. No, I've been stealing them from the kitchen." He smiles laconically, then glances at the merchant before answering her further. It's almost as though he's watching for consequences... like being accused of more malicious burglary here, or some other reaction to his admission of casual cookhall larceny.

"But... it's bad to use an undedicated knife." He doesn't bother to explain that. It's not possible to explain it; it simply is. "Especially for... mmmmm. Too long."

"Besides," he lifts his head, regarding her in a very specific way, holds eye contact that way for a second. "I know of someone else who needs a knife." Then his gaze breaks and he returns his attention back to the knives.

Solas? A look of recognition flits across his face, though he doesn't say anything about it yet. The one who left Cole.

Instead, he turns look at Pod 153. Ah. He returns his gaze back to Solas.

"Oh, you mean Pod 153? That's my tactical support unit. It's a mechanical being that carries out tasks and functions to assist me."

Pod hovers a bit lower so 9S can pat the robot on the back of its boxy head, before the two share a brief fist bump. Pod 153 returns to its usual place hovering just behind his shoulder, saying in a robotic but distinctly female sounding voice, < Report: satisfied >

"Its AI," then remembering that he's talking to someone who couldn't classify his pod, he adds, "er, its ability to think and reason and feel emotions, I mean. Its AI is purely logical, so it doesn't feel emotions like we do."

But... there's a few, still.

A ball used for baseball.

[Helpful Frisk. Although they do give a demonstration on throwing a snowball and it lands on the ground with a splat.]

And you throw it at others. It's fun!

[Until you get numb but that's when you stop for a bit. They remember a nice lady on the Surface who used to hand out hot chocolate to kids in winter once their fingers were stiff with the cold. It was nice.]

"Sure sounds simpler, at least." Rita's brow furrows as she studies the color-changing fabric. Is there a pattern here...? The colors seem random, and most of them aren't great colors to begin with. Who designs this stuff?

"But... isn't that kind of an everyday thing, just eating with people?" Around here it is, anyway, and Rita's pretty sure it's what people who live with families normally do.

What else? Well, lots of things, obviously... like...

"You should know, I..." she begins slowly, sitting with her wings half-open and awkwardly pressed against the chair she's slouching back on.

...Right, there was one more thing he said that kind of bothered her. About how they couldn't be equals...

"I don't think of you as less than me, or... anyone else around here."

"I don't believe we've had many medics to begin with." At the very least, Ginko didn't have any magic to help him with. Syrlya is pretty sure he's on the medical team anyway (he is not on the medical team).

He grins with a touch of amusement as Solas Ala for a demonstration. "Is it a rare for of magic for you as well? I don't mind showing you in a less crowded space."

"Ahhhh...." Oh goodness how does she even respond to that without seeming like a smug fool, that's a question on her mind. The most she ends up doing is...blushing a bit, the majority of her light twisting a bit red-pink.

The effect is quickly lost and abandoned with Solas' question-and once again, she's choking and sputtering a bit. "Aheh...w-well...." Well. How does she put this...Hell? Netherworld? ....'Land of the dead'?

"...I was....picked up in the afterlife..." She quickly waves her hands again. "But- But I've got a pulse again and everything, so I'm not dead anymore!!" This is, possibly, just a little concerning all the same.

All right, so asking wasn't a big mistake at least. Julien's pedipalps bob, he doesn't know if he should press on earnestly or get drawn into tangents. Fortunately the Warden takes pity on him a little.

"I was, but that could have been regretting being in a bad situation, right? I don't want to leave it at that." He'd known on multiple levels that it was a bad situation, even though he'd also been convinced that he'd defected of his own accord and couldn't think about it in words.

Julien rakes one hand through his feathery blue hair. "I never thought 'oh, I'm going to break curfew.' It was a mistake - an error of judgment - not deliberate rebellion, but the consequences are the same as if it was." He can feel his face burning. "I didn't think, and then everything just snowballed. So I just wanted to say, I guess, I know I fucked up."

Julien pushes his way through the tent flap and looks around. It's kind of confined in here, to this body. There's the unpleasant awareness of how close the fabric walls are - if he reared up and started flapping he'd hit them, and flying is right out of the question. He doesn't like that. Julien hadn't been claustrophobic at all, not before getting thrown into the underbelly.

Maybe if he just keeps trying to ignore that and be in enclosed spaces when bad things don't happen, he'll get used to it.

"Well, I'd prefer if you kept things in your trailer. But yeah you can take things from the stores, the plain stuff folded up and put away. Not the stuff on hangers or on like a mannequin though, okay? A lot of those are for specific people, like the performers, and I don't want them going missing."

[Does she like it? Carly, frankly, is at a loss for words. Stripping the paint job certainly explains how he got the bike's predominant chrome/silver look to the thing. From there paints only needed to be an accent, an 'extra'....however much Yuugo no doubt pushed the limits of what he had.

...It's beautiful, however. Beautiful, and more importantly.... ...Something that isn't from 'that place'.

This is either going to be hilarious or-- well, it's probably just going to be hilarious.

"Baker," Childermass says, attention shifting back to the dog once Strange has settled. "Ready? Go."

And that's a command, the last one he'll be giving verbally because the second Baker lurches straight into a run, the other magician's form flickers into that of a bird to fly alongside the racing arcanine. Not for long, though. When he had said Baker was fast, he had meant it, soon beginning to outpace even a flying bird, to the point where the crow is forced to land and hang onto Strange's shoulder rather than try to keep up on his own.

"I found myself at a ball elsewhere. Minds muddled, memories mixed. Everything there hurt but the house hurt the most."

Which probably doesn't help explain anything to Solas. But, at least in Cole's mind, his explanation makes perfect sense and he's explaining it in a way like he expects Solas to understand what he's talking about.

He arrived, brought in with specters and stolen, captured by a different fae to help populate an event. To serve as a warm body and a dance partner. The end result...wouldn't have been well, but the Ringmaster freed him instead.

[He loves kids in general even if he'll never have any of his own. They are so endearing and while very young they were innocent and thus easily impressionable. He spoils them rotten given the chance. It's hard for Tyki to get mad even towards the enemy. So even if he had taken offense he might've teased instead of scolded.

He's gone just a while longer and Frisk will find plenty of chairs with a lot of pillows in them along with other items arranged around the campfire. Once he's emerged, a hot mug in hand and a glass cup of his own filled with hot cider, he'll make his way over. He lowers himself enough so Frisk doesn't have to reach up to grab it and will set a bag of small marshmallows down on the table near them along with a small tray of sugar if it is not sweet enough.

While normally he might sit in one of the high backed chairs he'll choose one of the large pillows on the floor instead and take a sip of the cider.
] A clown, hmm? Then you'll be working in the same area I am under Joker. An interesting fellow but one that brightens a room every time he walks into it. He's hard to miss with his wings, antlers, and one arm.

[Tyki himself had no odd features other than the golden eyes, two sharp panther ears on top of his head, and the fresh and small manticore wings that laid against his back.]

"Perhaps the artist was in error? Although," she smiles, almost sheepishly. "I'm not entirely sure what a squirrel is." It doesn't look like anything she knows of in Thedas, and Lavellan has spent all her life running around forests. Which is presumably were the creatures is, if it eats nuts.

Strange to think of this placing having different animals -- but physical change was something that happened regularly here, so she shouldn't be that surprised. Humming, Lavellan shakes her head. "I suppose it's a matter of interpretation."
