⇨ THE LUNAR SOLSTICE

Who: Everyone!
When: Winter Breaks: Day 6 - Day 25
Where: THE MOON
What: The carnival journeys to one of its moons to celebrate the Lunar Solstice. More information here.
Warnings: Winter fun.

MOON WALKING

The journey to the moon only takes a blink of an eye, but it leaves the carnival far away beneath you. The second moon can be seen on the peripheral, massive compared to its usual view. At least when the holidays start out, there will be no notable wildlife on the moon, though this is something you can talk to the Ringmaster about if you think it needs a change. It sounds like this is the first time she's used it in quite a while - it probably needs some dusting off!

Claim your cabins, and proceed to... well, do whatever you want! There is no rush and little obligation, besides to enjoy yourself. For real, this time. She promises there will be no vampires. Or, at least, none that don't already work for the carnival.

CABINS: Living arrangements are character choice for this event, and there are a variety of cabins of various sizes, mostly built to house 2-6 people, though you can fit more in if you squish. They are all made of wood and of a rustic design - no fancy modern furniture, here! Each building is housed with a fireplace and the needed amenities. You can pick up materials to cook with the private kitchens if you like. Theoretically, you could spend the whole holiday sequestered away, watching the snow fall. Some of them also have outdoor hot tubs available!

ACTIVITIES: Activities are mostly going to be character driven, though there will be some large group games like bingo and maybe a poker tournament happening at some point in one of the festival halls. Otherwise, there is a lot to offer: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, ice sculpting, snowball fights - it goes on! If you'd like to run a winter activity, just let the mods know, and we will get the word out there for you.

FEASTING: Every day isn't a full-out feast because that would get a bit unhealthy, but there will be a number of specific feast events over the holidays where everyone is encouraged to let out their inner hedonist and stuff themselves. There will be one big feast per week, with smaller but also delicious meals offered in between. The feast dates will be B12, B18, and B24. There's also plenty of alcohol available for anyone who wants it.

SHOPPING: As mentioned in the planning post, there is a massive market being run by the World Walker Caravan! The Ringmaster has given everyone 1250 credits to spend on items, but there is a caveat - must spend at least 500 of those credits on gifts for other people. And it better be a good one, if you only buy one! (She will ask that you do not buy her presents, however. She appreciates the sentiment, but it seems sort of silly buying her things with her own money! If you'd like to gift her, please have it be something more personal or handmade, but you are not obligated to get her anything at all.)

TREATMENTS: The beginning of the holidays will also be about the time that the emergency Medical Team will have finalized their treatments for the Prince's poisoning. Watch out for further information on that - and make sure to get treated if you are suffering from petrification or poison induced illness! The holidays will be a lot more fun that way.

"I'm certain one of us knows how to figure skate. Perhaps we could freeze the lake and someone could perform on that?"

What other snow performances there are, Strange doesn't really know, but that's definitely something they could do. He's only figure skated a few times in his life but it seems simple enough, maybe someone could do something around that.

"We'd have to be careful about that 'snow thing', though. It would need to be sturdy enough that people could climb on it but soft enough that it isn't actual ice." The carnival had like two medics as is, the last thing they needed was someone getting a concussion.

"Figure skating...?" He's honestly not sure what that is, but before he can ask in more detail he's distracted imagining some kind of snow sculpture that also functions as an attraction.

"Oh, maybe some kind of... Ice castle, or something! And they can explore it and stuff, and maybe it's even a maze, like the mirror maze, but it's ice and snow so it's even more fun than that one? And so then only the walls have to be ice, the ground can be snow, so people won't slip, but it would look so cool and be really fun!"

"We'll have to have some help with that one," Strange chimes in, with a wry little smile. He's perfectly fine indulging Susan's daydreams and hopes. Why the hell not have an ice palace!

"I can help make the castle itself, but I'd be rubbish at designing the maze. There'd be far too many twists and not enough dead ends."

"Maybe the Ringmaster would help. She's probably the one who made the mirror maze we have now, right? So she'd be really good at it!" Even if she wasn't the one who designed that one she'd probably still be good at it, he thinks. It seems like the sort of thing a fae would be good at, something intentionally tricky without technically cheating, that looks pretty all the while.

"If we ask her help in designing the maze, she might help construct it as well." And though Strange believes that his magic is perfectly capable of getting the job done by itself, it's always good to have an extra pair of hands about, especially when one of those hands is fae as hell. "I'd welcome any sort of assistance!"

"Yeah, that would be cool! That way you don't have to do as much magic and you don't have to come up with the whole thing. I think that visitors would really like it." He's already imagining the castle even, despite the fact that it's completely hypothetical at the moment. It would definitely make things more interesting, and that makes it the best kind of idea in his opinion.

"Oh, I don't mind doing as much magic," Strange cuts in, with a little smile. Because he doesn't: if there's one thing he loves, it's showing off and doing a whole bunch of magic. And he's certainly egotistical enough to think that he could build an entire ice maze just by using his own magic.

"But you're right: any input on the design of the thing would be greatly appreciated. Who else can we rope in to help make this a reality?"

Not everyone's magic works the same way, and it's easy to forget sometimes. But if Strange says he doesn't mind, then he must be able to do enough at once and big enough things that it's possible without much problem for him, unlike it would be if he tried to push himself that much, and so he doesn't comment more on that.

Instead though he thinks about who else they could recruit because obviously this is very important.

"Lauren can do nature magic, so he might be able to help with it. I don't know anyone else who'd be good at coming up with the maze parts, they'd have to be really good and smart at that sort of thing. Otherwise it might just be a mess." Not that messes aren't fun of course, but if you want an actually functional maze, it's not the most useful thing.

Strange is overconfident, egotistical, and ridiculous. Whether he can build an entire ice maze by himself or not is out of the question. Strange thinks he can, ergo he is going to try, ergo he believes he's got this and will talk with Susan like he's got this.

As for who else might be good at coming up with the maze itself...

"Perhaps Peridot might? If not her, then she is the Engineer. She should know someone who would be good at that sort of thing." That's something engineering might do, right? Strange thinks so, at least.
