MOON WALKING↴![]() The journey to the moon only takes a blink of an eye, but it leaves the carnival far away beneath you. The second moon can be seen on the peripheral, massive compared to its usual view. At least when the holidays start out, there will be no notable wildlife on the moon, though this is something you can talk to the Ringmaster about if you think it needs a change. It sounds like this is the first time she's used it in quite a while - it probably needs some dusting off! Claim your cabins, and proceed to... well, do whatever you want! There is no rush and little obligation, besides to enjoy yourself. For real, this time. She promises there will be no vampires. Or, at least, none that don't already work for the carnival. ► CABINS: Living arrangements are character choice for this event, and there are a variety of cabins of various sizes, mostly built to house 2-6 people, though you can fit more in if you squish. They are all made of wood and of a rustic design - no fancy modern furniture, here! Each building is housed with a fireplace and the needed amenities. You can pick up materials to cook with the private kitchens if you like. Theoretically, you could spend the whole holiday sequestered away, watching the snow fall. Some of them also have outdoor hot tubs available! ► ACTIVITIES: Activities are mostly going to be character driven, though there will be some large group games like bingo and maybe a poker tournament happening at some point in one of the festival halls. Otherwise, there is a lot to offer: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, ice sculpting, snowball fights - it goes on! If you'd like to run a winter activity, just let the mods know, and we will get the word out there for you. ► FEASTING: Every day isn't a full-out feast because that would get a bit unhealthy, but there will be a number of specific feast events over the holidays where everyone is encouraged to let out their inner hedonist and stuff themselves. There will be one big feast per week, with smaller but also delicious meals offered in between. The feast dates will be B12, B18, and B24. There's also plenty of alcohol available for anyone who wants it. ► SHOPPING: As mentioned in the planning post, there is a massive market being run by the World Walker Caravan! The Ringmaster has given everyone 1250 credits to spend on items, but there is a caveat - must spend at least 500 of those credits on gifts for other people. And it better be a good one, if you only buy one! (She will ask that you do not buy her presents, however. She appreciates the sentiment, but it seems sort of silly buying her things with her own money! If you'd like to gift her, please have it be something more personal or handmade, but you are not obligated to get her anything at all.) ► TREATMENTS: The beginning of the holidays will also be about the time that the emergency Medical Team will have finalized their treatments for the Prince's poisoning. Watch out for further information on that - and make sure to get treated if you are suffering from petrification or poison induced illness! The holidays will be a lot more fun that way. |

While the cloth — a kind that has a woven, woolen feeling to it — looks like one that could be easily assumed for winter use, it has quite the opposite effect. It's cool to the touch, enough that it could even be called cold. Which is, of course, the problem Childermass was having.
"How does that feel to you?"
He barely ever notices 'cold' these days.

"What do you mean? It's..." She's about to give some kind of smartass response, but now that she stops to think about it, it doesn't feel like she'd expect it to. "...actually pretty cold." She turns the bolt over and holds it up closer to her face to examine. How is it like this...? Magic?
no subject
"I was told it would be, but couldn't feel it for myself," he adds if only to explain why he needed that second opinion. "They have an interesting variety of enchanted cloth here."
no subject
Raising her gaze from the chilly cloth with a puzzled look, she asks, “What do you mean, you couldn’t feel it? Why not?”
no subject
"I just don't. Not much, anyway," he says. "Not since Portland. I imagine I would still freeze to death if I stood outside during a blizzard, however."
no subject
"What are you looking at this stuff for, anyway?" she opts to ask instead. Maybe he's gift-shopping. The very concept's still largely unfamiliar to Rita.
no subject
But back to the fabric, the many arranged across the stall before them. While there are a few sections with perfectly mundane fabrics, the majority are strange colors. Red fabric, the opposite of the cold blue he had Rita test for him. Fabrics that glow, that change color, that shine with unnatural light. There seems to be such a bizarre variety of them.
"To have something made, I suppose," he answers, shrugging as he does. He'll refold the blue cloth and return it to the spot he first found it, turning and moving on to looking at yet another kind. "If I have to spend a certain amount on gifts, then having their tailor here put something together seems more sensible to me than anything else."
no subject
Leaning over the merchant's table, Rita waves a hand experimentally over a fabric that seems to change color in response to the movement.
"I've never really given gifts to people before," she says, using a matter-of-fact tone even as she admits her uncertainty. "Do people do this kind of thing much where you're from?" A few other carnival workers mentioned traditional gift exchanges they had back home.
no subject
"Can't say I've ever been much of a gift-giver myself," Childermass admits, pausing to eye the same fabric Rita is messing with before turning over another roll of cloth himself as he answers. "In winter we're more inclined to sit down to share a meal and a bottle or two than buy one another a gift. I suppose children with a family well off enough might spare them a gift or two."
Seriously, Regency Christmas is a bore.
no subject
"But... isn't that kind of an everyday thing, just eating with people?" Around here it is, anyway, and Rita's pretty sure it's what people who live with families normally do.
no subject
"Well, yes," he tentatively agrees, looking up from the fabrics to shrug at her. Like, yeah, she's not wrong, not exactly. "But they're typically bigger meals, more people involved. It's not entirely unlike the feast days they have planned up here on the moon."
Albeit smaller than a magical carnival crowd. Not necessarily less rowdy, though.
no subject
Come to think of it... she hasn't had a chance to talk with Childermass in a while. This might be a good chance to bring that up again... as difficult as it might be for Rita.
"Hey... remember when you said you could help me with flying?" Rita doesn't look at Childermass, but instead keeps her eyes fixed on the fabrics. Her pride won't allow her to look him in the eyes while asking this. "Is that offer still on the table?"
no subject
"Ah, yes, I do." It's not an offer easily forgotten, considering how odd it felt to offer to teach anyone how to fly. He straightens up from perusing cloth. "Of course it is."
no subject
"I just... need to do better," she adds through gritted teeth.
no subject
No point in treading lightly for the sake of Rita's ego. Either fly or don't, but he can only help if she's actually planning on stretching her wings and crashing a few times.
no subject
Her injuries have almost completely healed, and they're in a safe realm with lots of wide space. This might be the best opportunity she'll have to practice for a while.
no subject
Though that part, that's the real question.
"Unless you're still in the middle of scouring the marketplace, that is..."
no subject
no subject
"Though as we go... Tell me, what do you already know how to do? What do you have the most practice at?"
no subject
"I don't know... taking off from the ground, short distance flying, using wings to direct myself while employing levitation magic, that sort of thing." Said levitation magic has served as her training wheels, in a sense, giving her a safety cushion should she fail to stay steady in the air. It even saved her, once.
no subject
Which is, as far as Childermass is concerned, even more important than taking off. While levitation magic is undoubtedly useful, they might want to move away from depending on it. It isn't something he'll say out loud, however, knowing how attached Rita is to her own magic.
