⇨ THE LUNAR SOLSTICE

Who: Everyone!
When: Winter Breaks: Day 6 - Day 25
Where: THE MOON
What: The carnival journeys to one of its moons to celebrate the Lunar Solstice. More information here.
Warnings: Winter fun.

MOON WALKING

The journey to the moon only takes a blink of an eye, but it leaves the carnival far away beneath you. The second moon can be seen on the peripheral, massive compared to its usual view. At least when the holidays start out, there will be no notable wildlife on the moon, though this is something you can talk to the Ringmaster about if you think it needs a change. It sounds like this is the first time she's used it in quite a while - it probably needs some dusting off!

Claim your cabins, and proceed to... well, do whatever you want! There is no rush and little obligation, besides to enjoy yourself. For real, this time. She promises there will be no vampires. Or, at least, none that don't already work for the carnival.

CABINS: Living arrangements are character choice for this event, and there are a variety of cabins of various sizes, mostly built to house 2-6 people, though you can fit more in if you squish. They are all made of wood and of a rustic design - no fancy modern furniture, here! Each building is housed with a fireplace and the needed amenities. You can pick up materials to cook with the private kitchens if you like. Theoretically, you could spend the whole holiday sequestered away, watching the snow fall. Some of them also have outdoor hot tubs available!

ACTIVITIES: Activities are mostly going to be character driven, though there will be some large group games like bingo and maybe a poker tournament happening at some point in one of the festival halls. Otherwise, there is a lot to offer: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, ice sculpting, snowball fights - it goes on! If you'd like to run a winter activity, just let the mods know, and we will get the word out there for you.

FEASTING: Every day isn't a full-out feast because that would get a bit unhealthy, but there will be a number of specific feast events over the holidays where everyone is encouraged to let out their inner hedonist and stuff themselves. There will be one big feast per week, with smaller but also delicious meals offered in between. The feast dates will be B12, B18, and B24. There's also plenty of alcohol available for anyone who wants it.

SHOPPING: As mentioned in the planning post, there is a massive market being run by the World Walker Caravan! The Ringmaster has given everyone 1250 credits to spend on items, but there is a caveat - must spend at least 500 of those credits on gifts for other people. And it better be a good one, if you only buy one! (She will ask that you do not buy her presents, however. She appreciates the sentiment, but it seems sort of silly buying her things with her own money! If you'd like to gift her, please have it be something more personal or handmade, but you are not obligated to get her anything at all.)

TREATMENTS: The beginning of the holidays will also be about the time that the emergency Medical Team will have finalized their treatments for the Prince's poisoning. Watch out for further information on that - and make sure to get treated if you are suffering from petrification or poison induced illness! The holidays will be a lot more fun that way.

"Necromancy?" he supplies with a raised brow. On a level he hasn't seen before and she seems oddly embarrassed by having to explain. As poorly as he handles losses, he is grateful the necromancers of Thedas had yet to progress to a point of raising someone from the dead so completely.

"You were raised from the dead then arrived at the carnival where you became a being of light?" he says carefully as he studies her. He wants to make sure he understands this correctly.

"Eh?" The...art of raising the dead? She shakes her head, honestly confused. "Ehhh....No. I was actually literally picked up from the afterlife..! I think coming back to life was more connected to something else..." ....Something like Devouring the essence of the demon that made her a zombie. Yeah.

That one's hard to explain, she hopes she doesn't have to explain it. "I didn't look like this until a number of weeks ago though, actually~! It sort of happens if you get surrounded by a lot of magic all at once..."

....Or eat it.

His brow goes up and he wonders if perhaps the light that intertwines with the woman hasn't somehow messed with her mind. If her appearance is being attributed to a sudden, overwhelming force of magic then he wouldn't be terribly surprised if that was the case.

"Is magic uncommon in your world?" he asks. That is a side effect he doubts he would need to concern himself with given the magic he has both wielded and been around most of his life. Pride always would be his downfall.

Nnnnope. That's just Her. She's quite scattered.

That said- "Faerie magic," she specifies, nodding. "Faerie magic is what causes people's changes here..! The Ringmaster had to help me with something a while ago, and a lot of magic was involved, so...." So, she coughs, and gestures to herself. "....Somehow this happened because of that? I ended up absorbing a lot of it for myself, too, so..."

W h o o p s. Regardless, it's specific enough a situation that it...Probably wouldn't happen to just anyone.

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-10 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the first he's seen someone change into anything like this from absorbing magic, but he can see how it would be possible in theory if one were unused to it. He frowns lightly.

"So it was not a change the Ringmaster intended?" he asks, curious. An overwhelming amount of magic absorbed by a human brought back from the dead? At least it was good to know whether or not the provider of their contracts was seeking to experiment magically on those she brought to the carnival.

"Definitely not! It was more...a side effect of what we were Trying to do." she notes, laughing somewhat nervously. She's definitely not likely to explain what it was they were Actually doing, though. Probably.

She's probably not hard to get information out of, honestly.
lonesomewanderer: (let's go slap fight this out)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-11 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
"What you were trying to do?" he prompts with a raised brow. Because there is no way he is letting that slide by. If the Ringmaster and those she contracts are tampering with experimental magic, he wants to know.

Partially so he could learn from it himself.

And that, finally, has her clam up. She is quiet, only for a moment-not with sadness, but rather blank and ponderous thought, before she frowns.

".....That's personal," she decides in the end. It was one thing when the source of her worries was actually there, a demon floating around in her shadow, grumbling at anyone passing by. Now however, he's very much not around, and if explaining her undeath was already hard, explaining that she was toting around a Demon God is...Worse. You must be LEVEL X FRIEND to unlock THAT backstory-

As it is. "...Sometimes, there are problems that you don't know can be fixed-we found a way to fix one of mine, and that's all that matters right now."

If there's one thing Solas understands, it is not speaking of mysterious backstories. He is known for vagueness and dodging such questions, answering only enough to stop further details from being requested. She was not the only source of knowledge for fae magic here and he would learn that which he was most curious about.

"Then I will not ask of it again," he says simply. "I find myself curious to learn all I can of this place with how different it is from home."

[personal profile] insidescoop 2017-12-14 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely an attitude Carly can appreciate-both the matter of boundaries and, well...learning more. If there was anyone in the carnival who would speak it praises, it was her-which means she has a smile quickly returning, a nod accompanying it.

"Well, I can't say how different it would be from your home...but I can definitely answer other questions about the Carnival~! I've been working here for a few years after all...I'm actually one of the supervisors! ....though that's just wardrobe..." She probably has more info than just Clothes, though. Probably.
lonesomewanderer: (this is me: caring)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-17 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Strange as she is, he's willing to listen to what she has to say. Though his interest is far from the wardrobe choices made for the Carnival.

"Do many that come here bring their magic from home? Is it something that many can develop through time spent here?" As what seemed to happen to her. If it was a rarity as she seemed to imply before then perhaps one had to have innate magic already within them for it to matter.

[personal profile] insidescoop 2017-12-20 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Those that have magic, do," she points out, nodding. "But you're right! Anyone can pick up magic here...though, if you knew magic before it's obviously...a lot easier ahaha...there were a few things I had to ask for her, that sort of just became magic-but most of the time, people either go through her, or just work with each other!"

So there must have been something unique about the magic specifically, in that case.
lonesomewanderer: (hmm this is not as planned)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-21 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Something specific that she does not want to speak about with someone she barely knows. He may have better luck asking another who has been around longer or Cole if he's sensed anything. Curiosity always got the better of him at some point.

"I am impressed that the fae have found a way to bring that to the surface," he remarks. "Where I am from, it can be quite difficult if one does not show an innate talent for it."
fortuneglass: (<o<)

[personal profile] fortuneglass 2017-12-21 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Who knows what would be sensed-perhaps just Far magic, being funneled through and placed inside, in those cases. The Rignmaster could give, but she could easily take, too.

"A lot of Fae are pretty much on the level that people would put 'gods' on, to be fair...the Ringmaster is probably one of the strongest ones, actually~! Or at least, she's pretty strong by their standards either way... ...They're able to make their own worlds, though, with just a few rules holding them back...helping someone open up what could be there doesn't seem like a lot after that..!"
lonesomewanderer: (slightly sad about having emotions oh no)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-23 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
His expression sours briefly at the mention of 'gods.' The fae may be no different than the Evanuris in that aspect. They had spent too long being all-powerful and he wonders if all seek out their servants as amicably as the Ringmaster.

"Does she bring us to the domains of other fae? I would be interested in seeing these worlds of theirs." And to see if they were as powerful as she said they were.
fortuneglass: (o-o?)

[personal profile] fortuneglass 2017-12-23 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Not if she can help it." She says it rather quickly, but she quickly adds- "AH...Except the Summerlands-! That's an exception! But.... ...For the most part, fae aren't...nice," she 'explains, chewing her lip. "...At all. Normally a contract with a fae...that's not something you want..! Which isn't the case here obviously!" she quickly adds, shaking her head, "But... ...She's really not like other fae. I think it's because she's a 'wyld' fae? I can't say a lot if it is or isn't...the last one we saw wasn't good at all, but he was also apparently....really weird, for one..."

Please don't start looking for Fae, Solas, it's just a Bad Time-

"Really, if you want to know more about fae, you'd probably want to ask her..!"
lonesomewanderer: (let's go slap fight this out)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-23 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Solas is, unfortunately, all about bad times. His life is full of them and he seeks to cause them, often.

"I will ask her when I have the chance," he says though it's clear his curiosity would not be satisfied with a mere conversation. If the other fae were truly similar to the Evanuris, he wanted to find out what made the Ringmaster so different from them all. Had he made a mistake in signing the contract so hastily? No, what he would gain was far more valuable than the price.

"Was the fae of the Summerlands an ally of hers?"
fortuneglass: (:'3)

[personal profile] fortuneglass 2017-12-23 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
It seems to be something a Lot of people at the carnival have in common, unfortunately. This is really not a healthy trend. Still, she answers his next question a little more easily. "Yes~ The Summer Maiden is the one in charge there, and the fae are really friendly! They're really passionate about what the do, too! ...Mostly it's a place to relax though-we do semi-regular visits, but it's partly for vacations."
lonesomewanderer: (look at me i'm a hobo)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-23 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
"And what is it that they do?" he prompts. Surely the fae there did more than provide a welcoming place for visitors to relax. Or so he hoped. That at least tells him that breaks such as these were more common than he thought.
insidescoop: (MMMMMM...)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2017-12-23 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Well....a lot of them like dancing...or growing flowers...or being flowers....or playing music....some of them like to craft things as well...." The list sort of goes on, but every year or so, there's a Visit. "...It really depends on who you're talking to there..."
lonesomewanderer: (look this is very casual)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-24 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
He stares at her a moment. All right, so perhaps they could be a bunch of fae that did something so simple. It seemed like a waste of their talents, but this was not any realm of his.

"I thought they might have more interests than that," he says with a shake of his head. Disappointing, to say the least.
fortuneglass: (o-o?)

[personal profile] fortuneglass 2017-12-25 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like I said, it varies a lot..! They just...all know what they like and they like doing it, basically. Even if that's sleeping." Also they're sort of sworn to some sort of....isolation deal, but she doesn't know much (if anything) about that part....
lonesomewanderer: (talking 'bout the fade)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2017-12-28 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"All that power and some choose to sleep," he says with a shake of his head. When there was much they could be doing to aid others from what he currently understands of how some fae run their realms. "Does the Ringmaster give notice of where we are traveling before we arrive?"

Or is it a grand surprise for them all to sort out at the time it happens?
insidescoop: credit - haptisms @ lj (Eheeeewhoops)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2017-12-28 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a shrug. "...Sometimes, it's better to do what you love-all the power in the world can't make someone happy unless they're doing what they like best after all~!" They're meant to be wise words but they mostly just sound silly, here.

"...We normally get a little bit of information, depending-if it's a dangerous area, we get a lot of warning and instruction, actually..! Sometimes, the notice won't come from her though-the Nightrunners occasionally get sent ahead to locations to do the 'checking out'...which means it'll be on them to explain certain details after. I used to be one of those~"

Whether or not that's a good sign is in Solas' hands-
lonesomewanderer: (i have something important to say on the)

[personal profile] lonesomewanderer 2018-01-01 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It did sound silly. Solas is well aware of the dangers of power which is why it sounded absurd that so many fae seemed content to allow others of their kind to abuse it while they played. This was not his battle, however, so he lets that feeling subside.

His ears perk up and his brow raises at the mention she used to be a nightrunner. Likely before her change in appearance. Being made of so much shifting light would make it harder to be a scout of any kind unless the Ringmaster was truly unconcerned with discretion.

"What are your duties now?"

(no subject)
