HOME GROUND↴![]() At long last, it is over. The Prince is dead, and all of his stolen Names have been restored - all that's left to do is treat the wounds and move on. For the first day or two, the Ringmaster will be arranging passage for the servants that are left, all of which have remembered their names for the first time in years. The earth elemental that had been trapped and forced to serve as the Prince's manor, the Heart of Stone, is happy to help for the moment. It appreciates the Ringmaster's mercy, and is free after untold eons of imprisonment. Yet, there are plenty of aspects that are far from simple. There are still servants left mad and transformed into beasts, with no easy way to change them back. The Prince's spells outlive him, and those bearing his poison and his curses will have a difficult road ahead of them. Though most of the bestial servants have been rounded up, and a large number that had been reduced to unmoving statues returned, even the Ringmaster can't return them to normal so simply. The next week is for rest and for settling remaining affairs. If you want to bid farewell to any particular NPCs, or assure care is given where it's needed, now is the time to do it. ► A CURE: The Ringmaster will tell everyone simply - there is no simple way to undo another fae's magic. The Prince's powers were essentially on par with hers, which means that those who have been transformed to stone and those that were cursed into beasts and driven insane are not something she can trivially fix. It will take the work of the carnival and a couple weeks of treatment to shed the curse of stone, and the maddened servants are an entirely separate matter. She will do what she can, but for the most part she is arranging for the Prince's servants to be cared for elsewhere. At least for now, the Ringmaster will be animating the stone portions of people's bodies with magic, though those portions will still be a bit clumsy and numb feeling. ► THE NEW HEARTSTONE: In the absence of the prince, the Heart of Stone will be taking over the remains of the Prince's realm and preventing it from collapsing into void. As it turns out, the manor had been an earth elemental all along - a form of Wyld Fae almost on par to the Prince and Ringmaster themselves. How the Heart of Stone was enslaved is a long story presumably, but the Ringmaster considers it to be a sign of the Prince's own depravity. The Heart will be allowing visitors for the first couple days of this period through the portal, but keep in mind you are essentially just walking around on its body. At least the realm has a floor, now, instead an endless abyss surrounding it. |
Steven - Moving in, B1: D1
But rooming with Steven was- well it was wonderful theoretically. But it was also scary. She'd never lived away from home. She'd never slept over somewhere before. And now she was living with someone who was technically a boy, which - well, it was Steven, so it didn't matter that way, or did it matter that way??
She had very mixed feelings about whether it mattered that way or not.
But the most immediate thing was that she was laughing, because Steven had hung paper airplanes all over the place.
"Steven, it's adorable."
no subject
So, he blushes happily as he steps in to show her around. There's the paper spaceships hanging all over, and shiny paper stars taped directly to the ceiling. It feels like there's a lot to talk about, and he's eager to yammer on instead of focusing on any of the less pleasant stuff.
"Thanks! Those are the spaceships me and dad put up!" he says, pointing at the airplanes. "And this is my mailbox!" He points at the slightly crooked wooden box hanging on the outside of the trailer, completely covered with rhinestones and sequins. "And this..."
He dashes over to the bed and leaps onto it where a green and pink bundle is sunning itself next to the window. Of course, it opens up and squeals with surprise as he snatches it up into a hug.
"Is Bud!"
He rolls over and holds the Pokemon out to Connie. The Fomantis flails around for a few moments, before realizing what Steven is doing and going wide-eyed and confused.
"She's my Pokemon! Bud, this is Connie! She's my best friend!"
no subject
Connie is smitten with pretty much everything Steven has shown her, like most things Steven does. She's still just taking everything in for right now.
She has the silver sword she'd gotten from Carly slung on her back.
no subject
"Yeah, she's a grass type Pokemon! They all kind of having elements? Some of the other people here have them as pets, too." Bud chirps up at Steven as if to ask 'what's the deal?' "Bud is a little shy, but I bet you two will get along great once she gets to know you!
"They can do some pretty cool moves. Bud can do this thing where she throws leaves at people."
no subject
"Great!"
This is, after all, the kid who's favorite show is about crying foodstuffs.
Connie starts looking around to find a place to stash her sword.
no subject
"Oh, there's a closet here!" he says, and opens a panel on the trailer wall that is exactly what he says it is: a closet. Of course, this also means that some stuff tumbles out of it. He was hastily cleaning up before showing Connie around. It mostly seems to be performance props, like costume pieces and juggling swords, as well as a water-weathered looking magic scroll.
"Whoops... Uh. We can keep your swords in there instead..."
no subject
An untidy home means an untidy mind!
She set her sword to the side while she bent down to start sorting the scattered trinkets. The scroll immediately catches her eye and she picks it up to examine it.
"What's this?"
no subject
"Oh, that's just my dumb tree scroll..." he says, dismissively. "It's basically this spell that lets you turn into a tree? I've never done it, though..."
He scratches at his cheek.
"I kind of have a bad track record when it comes to transforming myself..."
As Connie well knows.
no subject
"Well, this is different, right? You're using a spell instead of Gem stuff."
She turns it over in her hands and starts to unroll it. "Does it only work for you? Would I be able to use it?" She would totally get a kick out of being a tree, probably. How did it feel to photosynthesize? What kind of tree would she become? Acer pseudoplatanus? Pinus glabra? Or would it be more tied to genography, resulting in something like Pinus roxburghii?
no subject
It's hard not to imagine accidentally turning into some kind of half tree abomination. Even though he already sort of did that in Portland.
"But I'm pretty sure anyone can use it! I just bought it from a magic shop in Atlantis, because I thought Dad might wanna try it..." He trails off, and then realizes there is a perfect opportunity for some optimism here. "That's one of the coolest things about being here, is that you can do all kinds of stuff, no matter what you are! Gem, human, it doesn't matter!"
He gestures to the scroll as she looks it over.
"This one has all of the magic built into the scroll, so you just have to do the little ritual and the scroll does the work! I think. I mean... I've never actually seen it do it, but the shopkeeper said it did!"
no subject
...
She's taking it as a victory, anyway.
"What else is here?" she asked, rifling through Steven's things without much consideration.
no subject
"Most of that stuff is just my performance gear! Y'know, costumes and things..." He's done a lot of experimenting, and his act is nebulous in definition, so there is a smattering of prop styles in there. "I did get this, though!"
He slips a crystal pendant out from where it had been tucked inside of his shirt. At first the crystal is clear, but as Steven seems to focus his attention on it, it begins glowing a vibrant pink.
"The Ringmaster gave this to me when I made some dreamcatchers for her!"
no subject
She's honestly surprised at Steven mentioning dreamcatchers. "You made them? Where did you learn to do that?"
no subject
He'll hand her the necklace. If she concentrates on it, it will begin glowing her soul color. He bats his hand.
"As for the dreamcatchers - we kind of needed a lot of them? So they were giving lessons and stuff. I think I still have one of mine laying around."
no subject
She follows his direction, trying to concentrate on the stone. At first she doesn't think she's doing it right, but just as she's about to give up, it starts to glow a pastel green-blue.
"Oh, I think it's working!"
no subject
"Aw! It's just like your dress!" he says. "That's so cool!"
no subject
Or-
"Or my color preferences are influenced by my soul."
Dot dot dot.
"Obviously I'm using 'soul' liberally here, as its healthy to be skeptical about abstract concepts lacking evidence of existence."
no subject
"Oh," he says. "No. Souls are super real. Sometimes they come out of your body and stuff when you're travelling around the multiverse."
no subject
......
............
"...what does that feel like?"
no subject
"I dunno - I mean... I guess I kind of did that already, before I even came here? It's sort of like that when I go into people's dreams, or like when I went into Lars's body! Except, here, we were half in this dream world? Which meant I just projected out into the real world!"
He frowns.
"And I kept getting stuck in dreamcatchers! It happened like... five times!"
no subject
Maybe she should start getting rid of them so Steven stops getting caught in them.
no subject
He laughs, and it's mostly genuine, because its way in the past at this point.
"There's a bunch of other ways that souls come up, though, so it's really just kind of how it is at this point."
no subject
"Well, if you ever need to talk about what's happened, I'm here now."
no subject
"...Well... I guess I kind of already told you about my second mom and all that stuff!"
He didn't really get into the nitty gritty or anything, but... at least he explained some of it, instead of nothing at all.
no subject
It was bugging her. Like something she only partially remembered, and it was leaving her with a significantly unsettling feeling, and it seemed to be- about Steven?
That was terrible, why would she be mad at Steven?
"Just- take your time, Steven," she said, possibly more for her benefit than for Stevens.
"Where can I, uh- get a drink of water?"
