What: The carnival arrives at book world. First week, they'll be performing for magical manifestations of book characters. Second week, it's time to hunt (for books, in the library.) Around Day 58 some stuff will occur.

FAERIE TALES↴

Though the carnival will be performing for its guests in the first week, they are welcome to search the Athenaeum while they are off duty during that time. The manifestations of story characters will be out in full force during performance week, with animals, people, objects, and even locations growing out from various tales. Most are distracting at worst, and will be curious to check out the carnival. Some, however, can be as dangerous as they were in their stories of origin. You know what to do.

► IT'S TIME TO ROLEPLAY: The best way to deal with book ghosts is to follow their narrative to its logical conclusion - turn the tables, work the story so it ends in your favour! Naturalistic and narratively satisfying plotting will have the manifestations following your lead. However, push too hard and introduce too many plot holes, inconsistencies, or illogical plot twists, and they will reject your reality utterly, becoming quite aggressive in the process. You can also use your natural abilities and powers to fight them in a traditional sense, but in the Ringmaster's experience, it's best to fight reality benders by bending reality right back at them. If you aren't careful, it's possible to be dragged fully into a story's reality, and then things get really messed up.

► IT'S ALSO TIME TO READ: The carnival came here for a purpose, and that purpose is to research. Specifically, the Ringmaster is looking for information on the Queen's Miracles - the set of ancient fae artifacts that the Blue Rose is one of. The carnival needs these artifacts to defend itself, but nobody knows where they've been for thousands of years. That's what the books are for. However, nothing is stopping you from pursuing knowledge for personal reasons. The halls are open to your perusal, and only your heart can guide you to the book you truly seek. Ginko is in the midst of flipping through some more books when he hears the sound of someone approaching, and looks up with a bit of a start.

It's actually Reira who he notices first, and his expression brightens up right away. Then he sees her brother behind her, and... well, he doesn't have much control over his ears. And his curiosity immediately tilts them forward. What can he say, he's heard a lot about this kid.

"--Ah. Hey."

Reiji has spent....... some time in the menagerie already, learning the names and personalities and significant (or not-so-significant) characteristics of every living and unliving thing in it. He was not uninterested, actually, but he was still more entertained by Reira's verbosity.

So, with that in mind, he has no fucking clue who Ginko is.

Which is why the green and white goat-man gets an short unwelcoming glance and nothing else before he's ignored.

"Oh-" Reira is about to Answer for Reiji- "...Hi Ginko." She even waves. There is a pause, and she looks up to Reiji, then back to the other, a sparrow and 'squirrel both sitting pretty upon her head. "...This is Ginko," she tells her brother. "...We look after all the animals."

And then, to Ginko- "This is my niisama! ...he's a snake now." That's not-

There is a pause, and she frowns up at Reiji before whispering. ".................you should be nicer...." Callin' your unwelcoming out, niisama.

Well. Fair enough, he guesses.

Ginko snorts softly at Reira's introduction before turning to Reiji. "So I can see. Nice to actually meet you; Reira's talked about you a lot."

"You're not the first person to tell me that," Reiji replies neutrally; he is to all outward appearances ignoring Reira completely.

Honestly, he would like to know what it is she's been saying, but he knows that information will make its way around to him eventually.

What, you were expecting small talk from him?

Thanks Niisama.

But hey. "...I just said nice things," she says honestly. ...Well. Mostly nice. Sometimes not so nice things were said, but she THOUGHT they were nice.

As it is, she looks back to Ginko. "...Are you looking for books too?"

"Mm, not surprised you've heard it elsewhere. She seems to think pretty highly of you." Don't worry, Reira, he could tell you meant it positively.

Turning his attention more to her, he gives a small nod. "Seeing if I can find anything useful. Not sure I've succeeded, yet, but I have found some stuff that's pretty interesting."

Reiji has nothing to contribute to this conversation other than his traditional chilly frown.

He lets Reira take the lead--truthfully, he's already experienced enough of her newfound verbosity one-on-one. But watching her interact with Ginko is a different kind of informative.

Don't mind the silent, inhospitable presence in the background of your conversation, guys. He won't interrupt.

Yet.

Mnnh...I'm trying to look, but Strange said the 'Miracles' do more than just things their names have, so...

[It's been Tricky.] I haven't found magic things either...but I have lots of pictures from books to read..!

[Reiji may not have realized this was why she was ferrying picture cards off with the eagle so much, necessarily.]

He's used to people watching coldly as he talks to their family members, it's fine.

"That does seem like it'd make things a little more complicated, doesn't it." Especially with this much to go through. "Taking pictures sounds like a good idea, though; maybe I should start doing that, myself."

He totally doesn't just... sometimes forget that he actually owns a camera now. Definitely.
