What: The carnival arrives at book world. First week, they'll be performing for magical manifestations of book characters. Second week, it's time to hunt (for books, in the library.) Around Day 58 some stuff will occur.

FAERIE TALES↴

Though the carnival will be performing for its guests in the first week, they are welcome to search the Athenaeum while they are off duty during that time. The manifestations of story characters will be out in full force during performance week, with animals, people, objects, and even locations growing out from various tales. Most are distracting at worst, and will be curious to check out the carnival. Some, however, can be as dangerous as they were in their stories of origin. You know what to do.

► IT'S TIME TO ROLEPLAY: The best way to deal with book ghosts is to follow their narrative to its logical conclusion - turn the tables, work the story so it ends in your favour! Naturalistic and narratively satisfying plotting will have the manifestations following your lead. However, push too hard and introduce too many plot holes, inconsistencies, or illogical plot twists, and they will reject your reality utterly, becoming quite aggressive in the process. You can also use your natural abilities and powers to fight them in a traditional sense, but in the Ringmaster's experience, it's best to fight reality benders by bending reality right back at them. If you aren't careful, it's possible to be dragged fully into a story's reality, and then things get really messed up.

► IT'S ALSO TIME TO READ: The carnival came here for a purpose, and that purpose is to research. Specifically, the Ringmaster is looking for information on the Queen's Miracles - the set of ancient fae artifacts that the Blue Rose is one of. The carnival needs these artifacts to defend itself, but nobody knows where they've been for thousands of years. That's what the books are for. However, nothing is stopping you from pursuing knowledge for personal reasons. The halls are open to your perusal, and only your heart can guide you to the book you truly seek. Not exactly what? She'll never know. Probably. Reira is eager to explain after all, or at least enough that she's heading for one of the larger pockets these pants are equipped with. It makes it much easier to store her duel disk- which she holds between two hands.

"Solid vision is what the holograms from a duel disk, or a field generator, are called...They're holograms that you can touch, and feel, and the monsters that come out of it are real..."

As if realizing that 'real' can be a bit vague, she adds. "...They even have feelings, and spirits."

Wait, this sounds familiar...

Rita cups her chin with her hand and seems to think, before concluding, "You're from the same world as Yuya, aren't you?" Is she a friend of his, then...?

Ding ding-correct, and Reira startles a bit with surprise when Rita asks that. She's not really used to it being a question. "Ah- Y-yeah-! Yuuya is an action duelist, on the Lancer team, with me..." Or. Was. Lancers probably won't exist when they go home now...

"...You know Yuuya...?"

"On a team with a pipsqueak like you?" Rita asks, an eyebrow raised. Not that Yuya's the sort to reject a partnership with... well, pretty much any sort of person.

"Yeah. He's a friend, or..." Rita folds her arms, apparently too embarrassed to let that linger without a qualifier, and ends with, "something like that."

Um, she's taking offense to that.

At least slightly. "....Dueling isn't about size," she counters quietly, even if she is ducking her head a bit. "...You just have to be good at it. ....I'm good at it, so they put us on the team."

So. So there! Or something.

Reira has to tilt her head a bit, as Rita explains however. Best she can guess, Rita is being honest at least...friendship tends to bring happy feelings to the surface, but it still feels a bit different.

...mostly thanks to the hesitation, though. "....Some..thing?" She repeats, before blinking it off. "Umm... If you know Yuuya, does that mean he showed you duel monsters, though?"

She's good at it? Rita has her doubts, but whatever. It's not that important.

"Yeah. He showed me how to play a while ago, when I was sick and couldn't leave the trailer for a while." No thanks to the Prince and his venom... but at least she had plenty to do during that downtime. "He mentioned he had some friends around here who play, too."

Apparently, this kid is one of them.

It's definitely not something worth arguing about, anyway.

That said. "Ah... ...in the trailer?" Well, that tells her something important then. "...So...just the cards, like Yuugo showed me," she mutters, frowning.

"...Normally, you play with 'duel disks'- so you have to move a lot more, and the monsters have to help a lot more..." Reira trails off, but nods. "Umn- there's others that play here too though..! Like niisama, and Yuugo, and Yuzu..."

So 'some friends' was no exaggeration!

"Right... he mentioned that, too. Seems like kind of a pain, for what's otherwise a game of strategy," Rita comments with a disdainful shrug.

"And yeah, I'm familiar with those people... except," the heck did she say? "Niisama?"

Reira shakes her head- but that's expected from someone defending a sport, perhaps. "Mnh... It's supposed to be for people to watch, right..? So if everyone works together, then there's more for everyone to see... ...I only learned because of the war, but... ...Yuuya's way was supposed to be for fun, at least..."

Rita's call to ask about 'niisama' is probably a wiser move than just about everyone Reira has mentioned him to- thus far there are probably at least five people who think that's a name. Rita however, will be getting the correction- "Um-! Yeah...Reiji-niisama. My brother," she adds, nodding. "...He came here, when we were in space... ...he owns the company that makes new cards, and duel disks, and things..." He is....Sixteen. Yeah.

Rita still doesn't get what's so fun about watching a card game, even with holograms and acrobatics... but she's never been one to enjoy much in the way of sports or performance arts, anyway. Really, the appeal of the whole carnival is a mystery to her.

"He owns the company?" Rita echoes, surprise written plainly on her face. "And he's here?"

Wait... maybe that's an opportunity? Her expression turns contemplative. "Maybe I can ask him a few things, then..."

"Yeah!" she answers, rather excitedly. She's quite fond of her brother, after all. "I don't know why though... ...he didn't ask for anything big..." He got a snake tail, somehow, that's all she knows.

Actually. Reira looks around, frowning. "Umnh... ...normally he's with me, but...I think he's working, right now. ...But if you want to ask him things...I could definitely tell you where our trailer is, or what is radio is..."

He runs a company, but go figure, the Ringmaster has him on cash. Oh well.

"...Niisama needs to talk to people more," she determines rather bluntly, albeit quietly.

Rita gives her a sort of weird look.

"You don't think maybe he signed up because of you? I don't know what having a brother's like or anything, but I figure most wouldn't want their kid sibling caught up in all this weird and dangerous crap alone." She gives a casual shrug with one arm. That's just, you know, a random stab in the dark at how she imagines families are like.

"Mnhh..." There's a pause. "...I guess so... ...I'm not his real sister, but..."

The fact is, Reira's family is far from a 'normal family'. Actually, it's pretty much her basis for the idea that 'humans and faerie are the same except in power'-but that's not exactly relevant when it comes to Reiji himself, fortunately.

The only thing that matters when it comes to Reiji, is...well. "...Why would asking to be here with me mean he has a snake body though..." she mutters, now stuck with this Awful Mystery.
