AFTER THE BALL↴![]() Around 11:30PM is when everything starts changing - and for most in Heartstone Manor, the triggers will have remained unseen. In the ongoing thunderstorm it was easy to miss, and the Prince losing control over his realm only occured before a small group of workers intent on saving the carnival from a terrible fate. An ancient High Fae artifact called the Blue Rose was stolen from the Prince, and in reaction he is being forced to abandon his plans of controlling the Ringmaster, instead trying to hide away in his realm for the purposes of saving his own skin. His main bartering chip? The workers that he's been capturing up to this point. He knows that, unlike himself, the Ringmaster cares about mortals, and especially about the ones who follow her. He's willing to bet that she won't allow them to die for the sake of her own convenience, and he's right. Now that the Blue Rose is the carnival's, she's intent to take back what was stolen from her, as well as the lives of all the servants that the Prince has been stealing away for eons. By whatever means necessary. ► SPLIT THE EARTH: Characters all across the Manor will be treated with initial tremours that will soon escalate into a full-fledged earthquake, capable of collapsing buildings and rending the earth. The cause of this is simple: the Prince is using his powers of elemental earth to reshape his realm into something more suited to protect him. Specifically, he is changing what was a manor house into a fortress meant to defend, and allowing the rest to collapse into ruin. The Manor is still nothing but a castle floating in a void - as the earth breaks apart, it will be nothing but an endless freefall between the floating chunks of debris. Over the next twelve house that earthen debris will be reshaping and solidifying into a new layout, but having to be there while it happens is one hell of a ride! ► BREAK THE ILLUSION: It's as the world starts shaking that the last of the Prince's spell over the minds of his guests will begin to fade away. However, it may wear off more slowly than is helpful in an emergency earthquake situation. The ballroom trance may linger even as lives are threatened, and it will take a pointed effort to make sure that everyone gets out of the Manor's collapse safely. At the same time, the illusionary guests will begin to fade and disappear. The ones that remain are the ones that are real, but it may be a bit painful to realize which ones were simply a lie to begin with. ► SAVE WHO YOU CAN: Despite being knocked out by a surprisingly massive blast from the Prince's magic crystal, the Ringmaster will manage to gather herself up eventually. When she does, the last of the storm will finally come to an end. She'll be doing what she can to try to gather up both servants of the Prince and all of her workers, but it'll be impossible to get to all of them first. A large portion of the servants have undoubtedly been stolen away by the Prince into his newly built fortress, but with the effort of carnival members new and old, they can still save as many as possible. Of course, those held in the Prince's most secure prisons will remain out of reach... for now. ► WAKE THE SUN: As the worst of the earthquakes stop and the new islands of floating land begin to settle, the clouds from the thunderstorm will finally pass, as the Ringmaster seems to summon up a sun to light the realm for the first time since the carnival's arrival. In reality it's sometime in the early, early morning by the Manor's schedule, but whatever! It's easier to not die when the sun is out, don't you think? The Prince's security and gargoyle soldiers are still out and about, and they're clearly interested in capturing as many hostages as possible. ► SIGN A CONTRACT: This is when the Ringmaster will be taking those that were summoned to the Prince's ball aside to offer them contracts in order to free them from the Prince's influence. She'll do her best to explain that the only way to wipe out his control is to take on a new 'master', but they can take some time to think about it if necessary. The truth is, of course, that until they officially sign onto the Ringmaster's camp, there will still be the chance that the Prince will be able to control them. ► WALK THE RUINS: One Day 176 things will have settled completely, with the land now forming a massive fortress on the far side of several large floating islands. The ruins of the old buildings will scatter those islands, forming towers that will swiftly gain small colonies of gargoyles, ready to swoop down and attack carnival members. Further complicating matters is the fact that the rending of the landscape has resulted in bursting open the underground prisons that the Prince had been keeping his most bestial servants, which mean all kinds of mortals long since twisted into the forms of giant spiders, scorpions, monstrous beasts, and other terrifying creatures will now be running amock on the islands, desperate for food. Try not to hold it against them - they didn't ask to be this way. ► REGROUP: While the Ringmaster doesn't want everyone to just run back home (if they do that, the Prince will undoubtedly make them unable to enter again, or at least take over the landscape more fully) she will manage to open a portal back to the carnival in the afternoon of Day 176, formed between two freshly grown trees. This means that carnival members will be able to fetch new clothing, supplies, weapons, and whatever they need to prepare for the battle ahead. Right now, the chaos is still unfolding, but the battle to save the Prince's captives is still ahead. [OOC: Gargoyles and transformed servants from the underbelly can be NPC'd from this point onward. Gargoyles are the Prince's most deadly servants made of extremely durable rock and bearing scorpion tails with venom that can turn bodies into stone. They want to grab anyone they can, trap them, and then fly them off to the Prince's dungeons as collateral. Don't let them! Transformed servants are the beasts who were freed from the underground prison they were left in to rot. They are servants that were transformed into monsters by the Prince, and most of them have been driven insane with bestial hunger from months and years of starvation and atmospheric poison. The Ringmaster is interested in helping them, to see if there is way they can be changed back, so if you have the heart nonlethal methods are most appreciated.] |

"You're right though. I should likely see what he wants me to do. I was just enjoying the view. It's quite lovely outside tonight."
no subject
One that he left scattered to ashes among trillions of grains of sand in the deserts of Hueco Mundo.
But the goal here isn't to kill -- it's to disable. Somehow, that's even harder! '
"It IS a nice night, especially since that rain stopped. The Ringmaster is in a better mood. I wonder if that also means your new boss is in a bit of a pickle, huh?"
Zangetsu closes the distance between them in an instant with a Sonido step, putting him nearly nose to nose with Tyki.
"Sorry, though. You won't be seeing your precious feline asslord any time soon."
no subject
Tyki wants to kill. He's waiting for that order O so patiently. It didn't mean though that he couldn't have a little fun if provoked in the right manner. "He'll manage one way or another. It's not like you have the entire upper hand right now. Some of the trash is locked away safety.. for now."
Zangetsu moves right into his face and his smile cracks. He doesn't flinch or react but his hands do unfold from their nonchalant poise and his body does straighten up slowly as he takes a step forward in order to no longer lean. Even his tongue drags along the edge of his bottom lip as he's challenged, "Oh? So now you want me to stick around after everyone allowed me to escape so easily. I'd imagined some of you would be glad to be rid of me."
no subject
"Only some of it. Most of the trash is runnin' around with a chip on their shoulders and a week's worth of pent up bitchiness," his eyes flash dangerously as he keeps talking, apparently not making a move. "Why don't you find out?"
There's no tells, no twitch, not even a blink of Zangetsu's golden eyes. He reaches out without hesitation or warning and grabs Tyki by the face, aiming to force him into the courtyard below like someone would slam dunk a basketball. Unless Tyki thinks fast and makes Zangetsu one of the things he can pass through...!
no subject
So he feels those fingers on his face and behind Zangetsu's hand he'll feel that smile transform into a wide grin. This gives him reason to attack and honestly he had been trying to provoke someone into doing so all night. He allows it all from the way he grabs to the way he forces him down towards the crumbling courtyard. The only problem is that when Tyki is suppose to hit the ground he goes right through it and disappears all together right out of Zangetsu's grasp.
He rises out of the ground behind him with his Power to Choose and pivots on one foot in order to throw the other leg hard in a round house kick towards the back of his neck. Your turn to think fast, trash.
no subject
Aside from a mildly annoyed look when his quarry slips away, Zangetsu doesn't react to Tyki's intangibility trick. Hiding in the earth is a great trick... but now Zangetsu knows what Tyki's spiritual pressure feels like. He locks in on it, feels it move through the ground like a fish in water, coming up behind him. He can't move fast enough to grab the ankle, but he can move fast enough to bring the sword on his back up a little, protecting his neck with the blade. Then, with his sharp and curved talons locked and loaded, he kicks backwards to try for a stab and grab with his bird-like claws hidden under the soft, fur-like feathers.
no subject
His leg hits that sword hard with a large amount of force and Zangetsu can feel just how powerful it is. He was definitely trying to break his neck with one kick. He's not like his usual self that would draw out a fight to play with his prey. He's out to kill and as efficiently as possible.
In close range with his reflexes slowed he doesn't care if he gets caught. Go ahead, grab him. His grin will widen sharply as his other hand lifts to thrust forward into/through his chest. He'll snatch the first thing he's allowed to get his hands on whether it is a lung, a heart or bone. "So feisty."
no subject
There's an unpleasant "splurt" sound as the hand goes into his chest. Hollows have strange anatomy around there. Do they have physical hearts? What IS in that thorax with a hole straight through it? No one knows. But Tyki does manage to grab something, and Zangetsu splatters blue blood from his mouth onto the shifting courtyard stones.
It's hard to see from the angle, what with Tyki's chest facing Zangetsu's back, but the Hollow is grinning from ear to ear. Because now Tyki is close. And stuck. There is a small, creepy laugh before what happens next. And what happens, happens fast.
From around the place where Tyki's hand is through Zangetsu's chest, strange white fluid with the viscosity of putty bubbles up. In split seconds, it takes form around Tyki's arm as a grey colored worm-like creature with disturbingly human teeth. Growing right out of Zangetsu's back. The worm grows enormous and engulfs Tyki from his head to his waist, clamping down hard with its blunt teeth. Inside the mouth, a wet, spiny tongue writhes and presses Tyki against its insides.
"CHILDERMASS!" Zangetsu yells, "NOW!"

When Zangetsu tells now, he's gone through the shadows and reappearing where the two combatants stand in the blink of an eye, moving to grab ahold of Tyki wherever the worm is not. He's angled so his shadow falls across Tyki as best as he can make it and, with Faerie magic, it's more an extension of will than needing any gestures or words, so all he really needs to do is concentrate and give Tyki a push. The shadows themselves — going opaque, pitch black — will begin creeping up to do the rest of the work for him, though until he's through for certain, well...
Breaking away at this point isn't impossible, which is why he turns to look at Zangetsu, expression drawn and pale this close to them. It's too obvious how easy it would be for him to die here, right now. He doesn't like thinking about it.
"Push him down! Into the shadow, before he can get loose!"
And try not to get caught in there, too, Zan.

There's a muffled sound of protest as he's suddenly inside of that thing's mouth. Zangetsu can likely feel the way his shoulders and wings hitch against that aggressively vile tongue and while he doesn't necessarily need to breathe for a small moment he doesn't feel like being consumed.
But then something happens that doesn't normally happen. Tyki half panics to the point of grasping wildly at anything he can get his hands on. Organs, flesh, coat, hair or anything to jerk and rip himself free. His mind is fighting against his convictions and that full on panic will make it worse. He's not scared as much as he's sure he's being consumed and will lose himself again.
It's enough to make him a little helpless except for the fact that Zangetsu might feel that sudden build up of something charging fast and large within his body. He'll blow them all up if he has to even himself if that'll free him.
Later on he'll appreciate how he was worth the effort of almost dying.

Zangetsu turns, the worm's anchor point on his body turning with him, and he merges both his arms into the worm's body to give it little more dexterity-- and so he can see what he's doing. Inside the slick innards of the worm, there's nothing to grab on to. Just warm, wet saliva and... something that kind of makes skin tingle. And not in a good way. This thing isn't meant for just holding on to prey, after all.
He sees the shadows creeping up on Tyki's legs, hears Childermass' instructions, and feels energy start to build up inside the appendage. With the last bits of his strength, Zangetsu pushes down with the worm, down, down into the shadow, like pushing a bobbing cork down beneath the surface of water.
With a loud snarl and a burst of searing black and red energy, Zangetsu slams Tyki down into the shadow, detaching the worm appendage and pulling his arms free as he does once he sees the top of Tyki's head (pushing up through the worm's body... gross) disappear into the shadow.
Luckily for Tyki, the worm (and its digestive juices) will harden, then crumble to nothing, once detached.
The memories will not crumble to nothing, however, so enjoy that.

But how can he call it disgusting? Zangetsu likely already knows that and wouldn't care, not to mention it did work. So. He'll just sigh and look down again, making sure the shadow has closed up again with a tap of his hand against what's left of the ground they're on. It has.
"Good," he murmurs, then, again, looks up. "He should be secure in there for now. As long as he's in my own shadow, he'll go wherever I go. We should—"
Go, is what he was about to say, but before he finishes that the world shakes again and the floor underfoot begins falling apart.
no subject
He'd comment on how disgusting this all is if he could properly speak other than a muffled panic and an alarming sense of something likely soaking through his clothes. He's gone just like that in some damn shadow. Even after the worm crumbles he has to take a moment to not half panic at the fact he has no idea where he is. Even when deposited in the Beneath he didn't have nearly this much panic.
It's making him angry the less and less he realizes what might've happened nor where the hell he is. There is absolutely nothing he can do about it but rage.
no subject
But you don't live your entire life inside a human boy and not pick up on general mannerisms and thoughts.
The shaking, though, is all the stimulus Zangetsu needs to lose the composure he has left. His knees crumple beneath him and he lands hard on the shifting ground. He hacks and coughs and sounds like he's trying to bring up a lung-- and indeed, he spits out a massive amount of blue-black blood and a little bit of bright blue tissue of unknown origin. When he catches his breath, he grabs Childermass' pant leg from his position on the ground.
"... S-sorry... he got me pretty good, and using that thing takes a lot out of me... I ain't got a lot of time" The edges of his pants and his feet seem to turn black and smolder like embers, slowly flaking away into nothing. The embers make their way slowly up his body, consuming him. He speaks quickly with shallow breaths. "I'm not gonna be able to maintain this form much longer. I need you to bring me to Ichigo. He looks just like me -- except his hair is orange like a dandelion and he scowls a lot. Or..." Crap, the burning has taken his body up to his chest, now. "Stab my sword form into one of the servants that you... heh... don't like. I can eat that way and recover. I--"
He is wracked by coughing again and spits up more blood. He moves to cover his mouth, but his hand is flaking away now, too.
"Gck... sorry, Boss. I have to rest now..."
Quickly, the embers consume him like a singed piece of paper, leaving behind nothing but his sword which was on his back, which clatters onto the shifting stones loudly with its support gone. It momentarily pulses with black and red flame before going dormant.
no subject
"Wait, what do you—" Form? What form? Though he sure doesn't have to wait long to get that answer. Zangetsu goes up in flames, forcing him to pull his hand back quickly to avoid getting singed more than the bit of sleeve that catches, briefly, then sputters out.
And all he's left with is a sword. Zangetsu's sword. He'd been a sword, all this time? He shakes his head, knowing he can't linger and ponder that new kind of weirdness, instead lunging forward past the blade and gripping the hilt. It's the sliver of shadow the sword itself casts that Childermass latches onto, vanishing — sword, shadow, and all — through it to safer grounds just as the ground shakes the last of balcony apart.
