THE GRAND BALL↴![]() Heartstone Manor is a giant, spooky castle floating in the middle of a twilight filled void. It is the home of a Wyld Fae calling himself The Prince - and despite his name, he is a bestial creature crammed into a gentleman's clothing, completely obsessed with replicating the ideals of old timey human society, much like the 1800's. The Prince and his many servants all dress in a manner appropriate to to the 1500's - 1800's, and decorum and beauty are held sacred above all else. All the workers of the carnival are currently staying there, in the hope of enabling a successful diplomatic venture between the Ringmaster and the Prince. The Grand Ball is being thrown by the Prince to honour these guests, but his manner of doing this is going to come as a bit of a surprise.

infomod wars go
Normally, his instinct would be to turn the other direction and run, get away from the ghost(?) at all costs. But since Portland, his feelings about them have changed. Some spirits are bad, sure, but some are good. And this one doesn't seem all that malevolent, at least at first glance.
He decides to get closer, though cautiously. The spirit is muttering something about beetles and horns, and it's all nonsense as far as he's concerned.
"Hey. Who are you?"
no subject
So, at Tamaki's question, Cole just...kind of stares for a moment. Oh. He's talking to him?
"I'm Cole," he answers, as if that explains everything. "Who are you?"
no subject
Curiously, and without asking, he reaches out and touches Cole's shoulder. Assuming he doesn't move away, he nods to himself after withdrawing his hand, convinced of something.
"Mm. Like I thought."
He just had to make sure there really was something there.
no subject
He doesn't move as Tamaki reaches out to touch his shoulder and instead just...kind of stares. Yep! That's a shoulder! Good job, Tamaki!
"Of course something's there," Cole responds, with a little frown. "I'm something."
no subject
Tamaki jerks back a little, looking up at Cole with a fairly perturbed expression. "D-don't do that. Answer things I'm just thinking." It's really spooky!
He crosses his arms, still looking pretty cross, but there's a mixture of confusion again. "Because you feel kinda like a ghost? But you're not, uh... untouchable like a ghost."
At least he doesn't feel like he's corrupted.
no subject
Cole's odd. A spirit of compassion reaching down to help a dying mage and, finding that he couldn't do anything for the mage, taking on his name and shape instead. He's spirit, but with enough human in him to be seen as odd.
Not that Cole minds, though. He's just watching Tamaki, waiting for whatever question is going to come next (because there will certainly be questions.)
no subject
That's what he thought at first, but... maybe he was wrong? He hasn't gotten to work much with his necromancy, so he doesn't always know what his feelings mean. But he doesn't know; maybe he really is possessing a body. And doing a really good job of keeping it from rotting, if it's a dead body.
no subject
So no, he didn't take the real Cole's body. Just what he looked like instead. After all, that was the only thing Cole could do to try and help the boy.
no subject
He's never known a ghost that takes the shape of someone else. Maybe some can, if they're corrupted enough, but he never learned how to alter his appearance that much, back in Portland. Mostly, he could only make sure he didn't look all that dead.
"I guess he doesn't mind, though..." Being dead and all.
no subject
"I made myself forget the pain. But I remember enough to remember why I look like him. I'd be confused otherwise. He was dying. This was all I could do."
no subject
"So you're helping him? Looking like this." Even if he doesn't get why it helps, he thinks it's nice, that Cole wanted to help at all. "You made yourself forget?"
no subject
So if he can make people forget their suffering, it only makes sense in Cole's mind that he should be able to make himself forget as well. He should be able to do this and he outright has made himself do this.
no subject
Tamaki wonders if that's such a good idea. He thinks, if given the choice, he wouldn't want to forget his dad, or the pain of losing Aya. It's what keeps him moving forward; without it, he probably wouldn't have tried to do anything with his life.
But he's hardly a philosopher or a doctor; maybe helping people forget is a good thing, sometimes. Maybe it's better if they don't remember the awful things.
"You can make them forget you? Why would you do that?"
no subject
People hurt in different ways. And sometimes those ways were fixed by a whisper in their ear, a few words of wisdom. And other times, there were bits and parts that they had to forget entirely. Cole didn't mind that. He only did what he thought was needed.
"Besides, they don't need to remember me."
no subject
Tamaki wasn't always so concerned about the idea of being forgotten. People moved in and out of his life quickly and sometimes without any meaning, and over time he'd stopped worrying so much about it. But he thinks now that he would rather people remember him; at the very least, to prove that he lived, and touched someone's life in even a small way.
"They can remember you as someone who helped."
no subject
"I don't mind. It's better this way."
no subject
It's Cole's life (in a manner of speaking), so he can do things however he wants. Tamaki can't stop himself from thinking it's a pretty sad way to live, though.
"What are you doing here?"
