THE GRAND BALL↴![]() Heartstone Manor is a giant, spooky castle floating in the middle of a twilight filled void. It is the home of a Wyld Fae calling himself The Prince - and despite his name, he is a bestial creature crammed into a gentleman's clothing, completely obsessed with replicating the ideals of old timey human society, much like the 1800's. The Prince and his many servants all dress in a manner appropriate to to the 1500's - 1800's, and decorum and beauty are held sacred above all else. All the workers of the carnival are currently staying there, in the hope of enabling a successful diplomatic venture between the Ringmaster and the Prince. The Grand Ball is being thrown by the Prince to honour these guests, but his manner of doing this is going to come as a bit of a surprise.

"I'm just trash, actually!" He informs her, his hooves just barely set on the floor. "Garbage! A mistake! There's nothing special about that!"
Or, well, there is, but it's not the right kind. So he's actually half-expecting Jasper to just fucking drop him once she hears that.

"... So are you a human or not?"
no subject
"No," Foster responds, and as far as he's concerned, he's not even lying. "Call me a person-shaped object."
Then he laughs.

Yes, a construct of flesh, of blood and bone and rot and meat. Made on purpose. A construct of fate, to be used up and discarded, as any tool once its usefulness ends--
"Yes. Yes! You get it!" His eyes are bright, his volume pitching up, and he immediately misses his footing in his excitement.
no subject
"You seem pretty emotional for some kind of meat robot," she remarks. Maybe humans are more advanced than she thought?
no subject
"It's not real," he says, just shy of condescending. He was trying to get his legs under him, but this... is kind of painful? It's like a shooting pain down his side, not in the socket but in his muscle and across his ribs--
"A machine made to mimic feelings!"
no subject
"Why?"
That gems made for a specific purpose usually have feelings has generally seemed, to Jasper, to be more an inconvenience than anything else -- an undesirable side-effect.

He can feel how much less able he is at taking it on five days of starvation. And he hates it. Light-headed instead of focused, dull instead of sharp, it's separating him from himself, sinking much too deep into his brain for such a little thing; it's not supposed to be like that, and it makes him... upset, somehow. No, maybe it just needs... maybe he just needs more.
More--
"It's not my design. But... they don't work, so it doesn't matter."

no subject
"Ah... hah," he's demonstrably out of breath, his face pale, but he can't disagree. "Humanity is a mistake," he agrees, when he speaks.
no subject
"At least they didn't make you a complete idiot, if you can recognise that."
