THE GRAND BALL↴![]() Heartstone Manor is a giant, spooky castle floating in the middle of a twilight filled void. It is the home of a Wyld Fae calling himself The Prince - and despite his name, he is a bestial creature crammed into a gentleman's clothing, completely obsessed with replicating the ideals of old timey human society, much like the 1800's. The Prince and his many servants all dress in a manner appropriate to to the 1500's - 1800's, and decorum and beauty are held sacred above all else. All the workers of the carnival are currently staying there, in the hope of enabling a successful diplomatic venture between the Ringmaster and the Prince. The Grand Ball is being thrown by the Prince to honour these guests, but his manner of doing this is going to come as a bit of a surprise.

Still, he glances at Lapis uncertainly before turning his attention back to Taako, Childermass, and Syrlya.
"... we don't have time to waste."
no subject
He has another question for the Manor, but... He wants to assure the rest of the team can acquire the rose, first.
no subject
"Uhhh. Right, got it." And then he goes to the mirror, facing it with his freshly-disguised face, taking a deep, steeling breath. "Okay. Uh..."
Right. Speak like the Prince. He does his best to shut out his own mannerisms for a moment, focusing on his impersonation, and...
"Open the way to the Blue Rose."
He doesn't do half bad, he thinks.

Upon climbing the staircase they will find that the entire center area of this floor is sectioned off into a large terrarium that is surrounded by a wall of crystal stone that is as transparent as glass, besides a slight rainbow sheen. Inside the terrarium is a mass of slightly transparent, blue-ish rose vines that look like they could have been crafted from a similar glass, all growing from a singular blue rose in the middle of the room.
You can see that the terrarium has a similar transparent roof, and a large glowing crystal orb transmits down light that seems to refract from the rose and travel back up, like an exchange of energy.
SUDDENLY, THUNDER BOOMS AND LIGHTNING FILLS THE ROOM ABOVE.
Papyrus's face is highlighted, pressed against the glass, eagerly looking down at you from the crystalline ceiling.
no subject
And there's a lot to take in, particularly how the crystal and the rose seem to interact.
"I'm not quite sure what that part up there i—" Hang on. He squints, still looking up. "Ah. Is that... the janitor?"
The result of a nat 20, finding the macguffin and a friend
First the big sweeping gestures of an unexpected but welcome greeting, but tapering off into a 'come here' wave. The latter is directed off to his side, as if to someone else in the room above.
Papyrus is here, and he's not alone.
He didn't want this
"Yes. I work with him," Foster informs Childermass simply.
Hopefully everyone here was aware that Foster is also, technically, a janitor.
"But--" He won't even look at Papyrus now. You'd think he has some kind of problem with the guy or something.
".... do we have a plan?" Because if not--
no subject
He'll stop short of touching it, however, and look back towards the rest.
"Not just yet, but... Ask the manor if it'll remove this as well. We can't do much else with this in the way."
no subject
He stops by Taako as he heads for the stairs, reaching for his shoulder. "Keep the mirror and your disguise. There is something else we should ask the Manor once we retrieve the Rose."
And with that request he goes up... and looks up at Childermass's prompting.
"Ah... so it is." What are they doing up there?
Well, it's up to Taako to keep chatting with the Manor.

He hopes none of these things have a more exact name that he should know, because if so, they're bones.

There's a moment of pause where bunny and bicorn watch uncertainly as if hoping that something will happen. When it doesn't immediately, they exchange nervous glances.
no subject
"Hold on," he warns the others, then steps over into a shadow outside the wall. He makes the attempt, only when he reappears it's on the opposite side of the room and most definitely not in there with the rose. At that, he scowls. So much for that. "We cannot teleport in, either..."
He says that louder than he normally would, so it'll carry back to the rest of the group, then shadow-steps back over to them again.
"We need to test the wall, then. Physically."
no subject
For a second, only to be left in the same spot, blinking rapidly.
"... So we do have to break it."
no subject
He's still ignoring Papyrus--as much as he dislikes the skeleton, he actually served a very important purpose just now... Foster was getting too ahead of himself, forgetting his place. It was good to remind Childermass of his undeserving presence, and himself of where he belongs in this assortment of powers. He really is... meant to be here for a reason, but he had forgotten what that reason was--!
He has a chance to make that right, though. He has a chance to serve his actual purpose here...!
"Mmmm. Wait! Wait." He reaches up with one paw, and the sparrow in his hair hops onto one claw, perching lightly for a second before it takes flight.
He watches intently as it approaches the clear dome over the terrarium and attempts to make contact with the surface.
no subject
Bunny looks at the glass nervously for a few moments, before speaking up.
"Maybe you have to... do something to it? Like how we open the servant tunnels."
no subject
Which is the only warning any of them will get before he walks himself directly up to the barrier, and--eagerly, without any hesitation at all--plants his furry paws directly on its surface.
no subject
That said, he's waiting to see if anything happens to Foster directly before walking up there himself. If it's a part of the manor, could it still be reasoned with?
no subject
"Um...?" the bunny girls asks uncertainly.
no subject
"I know you can hear us," he tells it, although he does feel a little ridiculous to be talking to a wall, of all things. "I believe you want this to end as much as we do. Please, let us pass."
no subject
...it doesn't matter how he feels. He did what he was supposed to do. And it's... about all he can do at this point in time, isn't it?
He turns and looks back at Taako and Lapis and the others, but doesn't say anything.
He was meant to enable them, to assist their efforts to reach this point. He's done his job, filled his purpose. Played his role.
He walks back to them calmly, but doesn't offer much else.
At least they know it won't fry them now.
no subject
"Open up, please?" she asks.
The crystal remains still.
no subject
"Taako," he turns away from the crystal again, "I think it's time to see if we can't join our friends up there. Ask the manor for stairs to the next floor up."
no subject
And, with that, Taako clears his throat, and he focuses on the mirror again, trying to think of how to word this request.
"Give me stairs to the next floor."
Plain, but hopefully effective.
no subject
no subject
"Good. See if you can find anything else down here," he says, then adds, again to Taako, "Including you. You may as well try knocking on everything as long as you're the Prince."
Seriously, just start knocking on everything, people. He's running out of ideas here save for getting a look at the sun crystal up above.
