BEAUTIES AND THE BEAST↴ When the carnival arrives at the Manor, everyone will be taken into the Throne Room to greet the Prince for the first time. He will be lounging on his throne, and will take a look at the guests that the Ringmaster has brought before eventually dismissing everyone so that he can talk to her alone. After that, they will be given a brief tour of the Manor by some of the servants, and then brought to their rooms to start picking out clothes for tomorrow. On the first night they will be permitted to wear regular clothes, but starting the next morning the dress code will be enforced. There will be a number of servants helping guests with clothing, and making alterations to suit the non-humanoid features they may have. The tailors work with fabric by hand, but their stitching is impossibly quick and accurate, with changes being made to complex clothing at unbelievable speed. Some guests may note while working with them that one of the seamstresses has wooden mannequin-esque hands instead of human ones, and another has two sets of arms. The arms are one of the most obviously inhuman traits that they'll see while first touring the building. Come the morning of Day 171, the daily routine will begin. ► FIVE MEALS A DAY: Between breakfast, lunch, tea, supper, and evening drinks, the meals you are required to attend are frequent and long. Each meal (except drinks and tea) will have multiple rounds, and use all of the fancy cutlery. It will be difficult to keep up for those that are untrained. The food will vary greatly, but will generally to be palatable to those that are into whatever kind of food it might be. Some of them are odd delicacies that are very much an acquired taste, however. People who cannot eat will be given a pass once the Ringmaster explains it, but will be looked down on for it. ► DAILY ACTIVITIES: There are scheduled activities for every morning and afternoon, and everyone is required to attend. Descriptions of each activity are provided on the "Event Descriptions" tab of the spreadsheet linked up above. There is only one hour of free time scheduled per day, after supper, and beyond that the servants will almost constantly have you on the go. The Prince and Ringmaster will not be present for most of the activities, but they will be there for every meal. If you character refuses to follow the schedule or makes a huge mess out of proceedings, make sure to report it here. ► AFTER CURFEW: At 11PM, everyone is expected to return to their quarters and spend the rest of the night there. Wandering after curfew is unacceptable by the Prince's rules, and if you do it there will be the chance of discover. Based on your character's stealth abilities, there will be dice rolling to determine if they are discovered or not, and by whom. Make sure you report any after curfew activity to the mod post here. This can also take place as an investigation if they are actually looking for something instead of just farting around. ► ROOM AND BOARD: The servants will remain upbeat for most of the time the guests are here, unless something is done to provoke them. They will be present at every activity, and there will be a variety of different individuals. One frequently spotted character will be the butler, a man with dark hair and small, sharp horns. He seems to be the main organizer of things. ► ODDITIES: Even beyond the obvious, there is something off about the Manor. Doors, windows, and other household objects will sometimes move seemingly without cause, and other times there will be banging sounds in the walls, or mysterious voices heard at a distance. It feels like you're being haunted. If you have a moment to wander the corridors, then you'll sometimes see open doors abruptly slam shut the moment you lay eyes on them, and wall sconces turn off or on. It's weird, man. ► THE HUNT: The Hunt activity will have its own event post, and some sign ups for those that will participate meaningfully. There will be some dice rolling to determine who hunts the most impressive game, and rewards handed out accordingly. Before that post goes up, however, you can do some investigations for the start of the event, if your character is interested in looking into the specifics of the contest and overall context. MAKE SURE THAT ALL DECORUM VIOLATIONS ARE REPORTED HERE. |

[Archery is new for Yuya, but he has the strength and coordination to pick up on it pretty quickly. After a few bungles with holding the arrow, and one shot straight into the ground, Yuya gets the hang of consistently hitting the targets. It's not always a bullseye, but he's also not losing any arrows in the foliage beyond.
There's at least one in the center at a bit of an angle, as Yuya draws the string back on another shot. He's taking each one seriously--he's not as good as a friend he knows, but he's proud enough to give it a real effort.]
Hey. [He shifts his hold slightly, glancing over to the person next to him.] What if I get it exactly in the center?

[There's less activity the next day, and while Yuya liked the performance he's glad to have time for finally pull himself away from the servants and a chair and get to roam on his own.
He escapes down one of the halls, glancing around for the servants. When he doesn't immediately see any he lets out a sigh of relief and lets his posture slump.] I hope this is working...

You may have heard about this already by now, but gems? They don't need to eat. And Peridot? She physically can't eat. At least, she never used to be able to, and it's a real hassle getting herself into a state where she can do it now.
Point is, it's sort of a big ordeal for her, and she's been fretting about it pretty hard since it was announced that they would be coming here. Sure, maybe the Prince will understand if the Ringmaster just explains her situation, but man she does not want to get singled out here. So she's making the effort, tweaking her bat transformation spell to try and give herself... something that'll pass as a stomach, at least to hold chewed up food long enough to give the illusion of eating.
As it turns out? Food is actually pretty rad. Taste is a whole new sense she's scarcely gotten to experience until now (save for her time in Portland), and she is intoxicated by it to the extent that her enthusiasm is actually putting her table manners in jeopardy. Unfortunately for everyone else, this means you may get treated to the sight of a bossy little green gem greedily stuffing her mouth full of a frankly LUDICROUS number of biscuits at tea time, pausing only to snicker delightedly about it. As far as dinner is concerned... Did anyone tell her its rude to wipe sauce off of her plate with her fingers so that she can lick it? Or that she shouldn't be eating the bed of lettuce that roasted pheasant is resting on?
PROBABLY NOT.

So this whole affair has been incredibly stuffy so far, so it's a massive relief when the whole group breaks to play some kind of earthling game. It only gets better, in Peridot's opinion, when she lays eyes on the mallets.
Things promptly gets worse again when it is explained what the mallets are actually for.
"This is such a load of muddy, cruddy, uninspired DIRT," the engineer hisses to you. "Did humans seriously come up with this? Ugh. Leave it to a bunch of Earthling CLODS to take a sport that involves mallets and make it COMPLETELY BORING by putting in a rule that prohibits you from hitting the other players with them!"

Peridot hasn't touched a bow or an arrow before in her THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF LIFE, someone please show her how to do this nonsense because she is getting frustrated up to the point where she's about to let out a stream of extremely inappropriate space rock swears.

Rita's never used a bow before.
Well, that's not exactly right. She used one in Hellbound Hallows, when she was 'rebooted' into some kind of beastman archer. But in that world, using a bow was second nature, something she didn't need to think about.
Not like this. Standing before a target, wearing an ankle-length skirt, a blouse, and a dark-colored jacket (apparently, that's their idea of sportswear around here), she lets fly another arrow that falls pathetically short of the target, and a bit off-center at that. She lets out a decidedly unladylike "urrrgh!" at the failure. It seems this activity is starting to erode her patience.
In the interest of keeping her from losing her cool, it might be good for someone to either help her improve her technique, or distract her from the task altogether for a while.

For the evenings, the Prince's servants have fitted Rita with a long yellow dress adorned with lace and bows along the sleeves. Almost miraculously, they'd tailored the dress to fit around her wings in what seemed like a matter of seconds. While the gown doesn't seem like anything Rita would normally wear, she doesn't mind it much. Being dressed up by other people just means she doesn't have to bother choosing outfits herself. Makes things easier.
During mealtimes, Rita tries to keep her mouth shut, but her manners still leave much to be desired. She slouches in her chair, fails to use napkins and utensils properly, and tends to have a sour look on her face. At times, servants gently remind her of the proper way to sit or act, which she grudgingly complies with.
"I don't know how Estelle can stand this crap," she grumbles in a low voice, seemingly directing her grievances to her plate, as it's not like she can afford to say it much louder. Whoever's sitting next to her might hear, however.

It's when they're finally allowed some breathing room for the day that Rita finds herself in a quiet corridor of the manor. She can't go far without encountering servants who usher her back towards the public areas, but just for a moment, she's alone. Or she thinks she is.
But the silence of that corridor is broken with a loud bang as one of the doors suddenly slams shut behind her. Rita whirls around with a startled gasp. "Wh-what the hell was that!?" She hasn't noticed that there's someone else in earshot, perhaps coming out of a nearby room, or from around the corner.

This visit will be a struggle for Rita, who knows little of high society and cares for it even less. While she'll try to avoid overt rudeness, she may be seen slouching and looking unenthused during meals, party games, and performances, and grinding her teeth as she tries to bear all this tedium without letting any rude comments slip out loud. She'll be more tolerable during sporting activities and card games, as she's got a bit of a competitive streak that tends to come out no matter how stupid she thinks a game is at first. The library, unsurprisingly, will be the one place that she'll actually seem to enjoy herself, and she'll be seen eagerly looking over bookshelves and contentedly flipping through various books, occasionally getting so sucked into one that she stops noticing anything else happening around her.
During free time, she'll either be seen wandering around the permissible areas, or diving right back into the library for some more reading time. After curfew, she may be contacted through the radio for chatting or scheming.

Day 171
There is one thing Tamaki likes about this Victorian castle set-up, and that's eating five times a day. This is something he could really get used to.
Unfortunately, it does require knowledge of the fancy cutlery, and while Tamaki attended the dinner the night before back at the Carnival, he's clearly struggling to remember what he's supposed to use when. Memorizing things like this is hardly his strong suit.
After awhile, he'll lean toward the person next to him, keeping his voice low as he drawls, "Um... which fork are we supposed to use now?"
Alternately, one might catch him attempting to sneak bits of food off the table and tuck it into his sleeves or the folds of his shirt. Someone should probably stop him before he gets in trouble.
B: Croquet
Tamaki has never played this game before, and he's barely seen it played on television. It wasn't exactly the popular thing to be playing when he was back home in school; basketball is more his style.
But there is no basketball here, so he has to make due. Still, the rules haven't really been explained; he was just handed a croquet stick and a ball and told to enjoy himself. Looking at everyone trying to hit the ball through the metal rings, he thinks it must be a bit like golf. So he decides to do his best impression of a golf swing, and, THWACK!
It's not very high off the ground, but it's definitely flying. Tamaki's eyes go wide and tries to cry out in time.
"Look out!"

This is perhaps a safer game for Tamaki to play; no chance of him smacking a ball into someone's shins here. In fact, he's had some practice with trying to get his thoughts across through gestures, curtesy of a mushi that took his voice sometime ago.
So he goes about finding a partner with enthusiasm! Turning to someone who doesn't seem to have partnered up yet, he grins encouragingly.
"Wanna partner? I'm good at this. Promise."

Day 170, 171 - In Which Blue is Primarily Sad
Blue Diamond arrives with very little by way of luggage, but being able to modify her own appearance at will means as soon as she has a solid idea of the sort of outfits the Prince expects, she conforms. All will be proper and appropriate to the period save the inevitable blue cloak she wears, delicately embroidered along its edges in gold. It allows her to hide her face now and again, something she does frequently. The servants seem only to be paid attention to when they are absolutely required and otherwise utterly invisible. She's figured out they're all Pearls, and Blue knows how to treat a Pearl. Leave them alone to do their jobs. None are troubled with frivolous questions.
It's easiest to find her after the brief tour of the manor and room assignments handed out; she has no idea who the person is she'll be forced to stay with but if she spots someone she does recognize as from the Carnival she'll reach to stop them carefully.
"Do you know who .. 'Yuzu' is?"
Day 171 Croquet
Blue's definitely attending the events outlined, and the mealtimes required, but she is a pale azure and usually silent ghost through all of it. She'd strike an almost beautiful figure, carefully dressed in the exquisite gowns required by this place and shrouded in a favored wispy cloak, if it wasn't for the cloud of distant grief that she seemed to wrap herself in as much as the cloak. She'd been quietly sad all through the musical performances, a piece or two drawing suspicious tears before she regains her composure, and then it's back to her cloud of subtle woe.
It lingers.
Even during croquet, the Diamond sorrowfully shepherding her ball through its hoops and towards the ordained stakes as if it were at a funeral. She maintains her composure relatively well but ... there's really no mistaking it. There should be a great striped cat at her side, and there isn't. Her mind's there instead of the game and BOY is it taking her a long time with her turns because of it..

Carly | OTA | DIVIDED DAYS ARE FOR SQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAARES
[No wait-wrong game. Carly, fortunately, has the sense to Not launch the ball across the green with her little hammer. She's a little confused about the game, granted, but she's gotten herself to look pretty good with her hair all done up in a sporting dress for the game, and her wings float gently behind her as she focuses on her hammer. She needs to hit the ball through the hoops, anddddd...maybe hit another ball while she's at it?]
Mnnnnh....Aha! [She finds herself exclaiming as she makes the shot, before quickly quieting herself. Yeeks, that's close-]

Mnhhhhghh.... [She is. Not good at this. Carly's arms are bent out of shape, and when she tries to take aim, her hands tremble. Her eyes are narrowed with focus, but the irises inside give away her anxiety, and a cold sweat is on her face whenever she lets loose. One!

[Tea Time, it turns out, is the perfect use of an intermission. Honestly, she finds she doesn't mind the theatre performance at all. Reading was even...sort of enjoyable before the first act, so she's finding her nerves a little less frayed. Even if Tea Time is, technically, some sort of 'dinner'. But! All that aside, she sips her tea and sighs, actually looking the part of some upperclass woman for once in her gown, the light of her form misting out from beneath the fabrics.]
Hahhhh... ...This tea is really nice, isn't it..? [She manages aloud, glancing to whoever's nearest. Tea's good for nerves, who'd have guessed...]
[SUPERVISORS | Delicious Food | All Meals Prior the Hunt]
[The supervisors, it turns out, are all stuck up front with the Ringmaster and Prince pretty much, on a Nicer table with Nicer chairs. It's more than enough to make a woman nervous, especially one with as many loose threads as Carly herself. Still, the girl manages to try her best at holding together, even if there is, every now and then, a whispered-]
....Which course are we on?
[She's sort of been drowning herself out on things. Actually, outside the occasional question, she's eeriely quiet, a point that many up there are no doubt noticing.

[Pass the Slipper, go figure, is somewhat awkward when you're as large as Gongenzaka presently is. Not for the ones passing the slipper of course-if anything they might as well start tossing it like a football (not that they are, hopefully, since that would get a few frowns REALLY FAST), since Gongenzaka can hardly even glance backward with his mane of branches in the way. He'd have to turn around-which is against the rules-so instead he has his arms peacefully crossed as he waits. Slipper is passed slipper is passed...
And....]
HMM! [And he's opened his eyes! Now time to guess....] ...Hmmmmmm...
[A Moment of Pause]
[When the horses are brought out, he can feel his heart drop. Oh. Now here's something he can't do. Rather fortunately, the servants assure him immediately (he has quite the readable face it turns out, though having had a few meals with someone by now, he suspects he knows Why) that there is NOTHING to worry about.
He'll just have to ride himself.] Auh! I see...then, what shall I, the man Gongenzaka-
[A few of the others are already getting ready to perform on the courses. The servants gesture over, and the taur feels his stomach turn again.
Ah. If he's riding himself, he needs to go through the same obstacles.]

[It was already bad just entering the palace. As soon as everyone was gathered into a group, feelings of anxiety and nervousness flooded the entire chamber they were in, and Reira found herself with a slight frown upon her face. It dulled only slightly once they were finally divided up. The servants at least weren't so much fearful as they were a little nervous, but employees in nearby rooms, or even right beside her were practically drowning it out.
And then they were brought into the dining hall for food.
The minute she enters, Reira finds her head searing with shock. She bites back a gasp, and clutches whoever it is she's walking in alongside, fingers digging in as tightly as they dare. It is equally horrible through the entire meal-with each course or entry, it takes until some clattering of silverware before she's aware something is happening, and she holds her food with an eerie stiffness. The silverware used is all correct-the timing perfect, and the manner impeccable. But she's frozen, it seems, with wide eyes staring at the middle of her plate, no heart to enjoy the meal, or conversation....
It might be good to see what's wrong.
Or perhaps waiting until they're done is best, when they're out of the Prince's sight, and out of the wave of Hate that hit so hard, and Reira can finally release a gasp of relief.]
[Just Take A Look, IT'S IN A BOOK | READING & CONTEMPLATION, DAY 172]
[The library is a wonderful place to recover from the latest meal, at least Reira feels as much. The servants took a slight bit of extra care, it seems, to gently show her where the....more child friendly books were, fortunately, so while it's probably a bit above her perceived reading level, she seems to be doing quite fine.
She has no idea which one she's grabbed though, she just kind of started reading it, and occasionally she squints at a word in attempt to figure out what on earth it means.]

[Reira is...a little outsized here, suffice to say. She's still somewhat surrounded by everyone's nervousness, to top it all off, but at least it thins out as people choose their horses and make off. After the fifth or sixth employee has gone in fact, she's sighing in relief, a hand over her heart. It leaves time for her, now, to actually consider her own riding companion...
...Excepting that, hmm. Most of these are rather....] ...they're really tall... [She murmurs, chewing her lip as she looks over them. So is there anything miniature around here...?]
[And When All Are To Sleep? | ALL EVENINGS PRIOR 'THE HUNT']
[She has no intentions of sneaking out at night, not with how stressful even day one becomes. As soon as there's room to really breathe, it's a relief in fact, with Reira sinking back into one of the chairs of the room, and holding a briefly manifested daemon close. (A sight no doubt odd for others, given that a basic daemon is practically her own hallucination)
She just needs to make it through to the next day, she thinks. And then she'll have to make it through the next day. She just needs to keep telling herself that, she thinks, curling into a small nightgown.
She just has to do that.]

FOOD
It so happens that he's the person next to Reira during this particular mealtime, and it's his sleeve she's clutching at on the way to the dining hall. In contrast to many of the other Carnival members, 9S isn't as anxious about the entire affair. Having less experience in the matters of fae and having no experience in previous shenanigans the Carnival has been involved with, 9S is cautious, but not fearful. It's just like a mission, right? Just with more annoying rules. So he will come off as quite calm.

Until The Hunt
Five meals a day is a lot of dining.
That's five times a day that a handful of people are going to be trapped sitting next to (or across from, or diagonal to) Foster van Denend for at least an hour.
And since seating arrangements are not exactly permanent, odds are that eventually that someone will be you.
There are a lot of hazards here. His personality, for one. Fumbled utensils--nevermind if it's the right one or not, he can't hold any of them in his thick, clawed paws. Which means spilled food and lost forks. Not to mention the inevitable drooling.
You won't have to deal with any of them.
Well.
He's still got a pretty unapproachable temperament, but he's not causing a scene. If you don't outright ignore him, the cause is pretty obvious. He's surprisingly quiet and inconspicuous about it, but outside of very carefully drinking water or tea (teacup cradled improperly in both paws), he's... just not eating.
It doesn't matter what meal it is: breakfast, dinner, tea time. The most he eats at all on any day is some bread, or (once) a cucumber sandwich during tea. Mostly he's occupied with trying to keep his claws out of his hair, as that seems to be a constant struggle.
If he catches you looking at him, he just smiles.
It's probably not very reassuring... but do you really want to draw attention to it during the meal?
B. Croquet
Unfortunately, Foster cannot keep his personality under wraps when he's forced to interact with people.
Croquet is... not great. There are too many people taking too many turns, and he's incapable of keeping track of whose ball is whose and whether it's his turn or not. He mostly focuses on sabotaging other players, which is absolutely not a surprise if you know him at all.
If you just went, you probably need to remind him it's his turn. This is probably not the first time you've had to do it.
Otherwise he's just knocked your ball off... again.

C. Evening Games
The first night... seems specifically designed to sabotage his attempts to behave himself. Pass the slipper seems benign but asking him to sit still for so much of the day and then asking him to stand still is pretty frustrating. Charades is worse.
Right now he's... um. He's. Suffering.
He stares at his card for a long, long minute.
The seconds tick by, and the conflict he's experiencing is becoming increasingly obvious.
He doesn't want to play this game.
He really doesn't want to play this game.
His gaze darts off the card, to the side, then back to the card--then he looks up again, at the people around him, then back at the card, his face unreadable. It's nonetheless clear that he's looking for an escape route, an excuse, anything... some inspiration.
But it doesn't come.
Finally, he surrenders to the inevitable and lowers himself to the floor on all fours, where he begins gesturing broadly with one paw in front of his face--a long, sinuous shape--before shaking his head like an animal, broad bovine ears swinging stiffly in the cloud of his barely-contained yellow hair.
D. Closed to Ginko
Foster, in accordance with RM's warnings (and prior lesson about dressing like a loser), is not only complying with the dress code, but he's been having a time not picking at the edges of the fabric with his claws. It's such a relief when curfew approaches and he can shed the sleeveless formalwear that the instant he gets it unbuttoned (a process that takes him about ten minutes of saliva and lost temper and slipped claws), he basically throws the top onto the bed with vindictive force.
At which point the mundane mystery of how he managed to wear anything over all those mushrooms is solved.
His torso is plastered with gauze, thick pads of it held in place with perhaps-excessive amounts of medical tape. Over the fae mark on his chest, on his ribs, on the top of his right shoulder, in multiple places on his back. A couple of pads are stained greenish black and red where the trimmed-back fungus continued to ooze blood and ichor.
Gross.

Scout's not a fan of the clothing she was provided. It's apparently religious garb, and fair enough, she's religious, but it's from some order that doesn't go out much in her opinion. The bodice is preventing her from turning or bending well at the waist, though at least it's not tight enough to restrict her breathing. Her skirts are a floor-touching nuisance, though deep enough from front to back to halfway conceal her tail. She's not supposed to show that she has feet and may have ankles. It's a hazard. The hood or whatever it is also shaves off some of her peripheral vision.
She's expressive enough that the face she makes when she knows she shouldn't be making faces or showing how she feels is a very obvious blank, which in turn makes it more obvious when, escorted between scheduled activities, she falters, looking around with a frown. If you have good ears, there's a distant muffled knocking or banging noise. When the servants begin to usher her onwards she complies, still frowning, but she'll make eye contact with you and tighten her lips, and at the next opportunity to speak without being overheard say "Feels like there's a lot more people around here than I can actually see."

Jonathan Strange | ota!
Billiards is more Strange's game than croquet, but a, he's played croquet once or twice before and b, both sports involve 'eyeball the way the ball will roll before hitting it with a stick' so Strange manages to catch on fairly quickly. And, much to the annoyance of whoever he's playing against, croquet is one sport that Strange is slightly good at.
With a tap of his mallet, his croquet ball rolls through one of the hoops. Strange can't help it: he's been on his best behavior throughout the entire event but he smiles a goddamn smug smile as he turns to his opponent. "And I believe that's only two more hoops, then the center peg, and then I win! This game's more fun than I thought!" It's only more fun because Strange is annoyingly decent at croquet.
During evening drinks, Strange knocks back a first glass of wine worryingly quick and nurses a second glass of wine through the round of drinks. Honestly, he seems quite relieved, moreso that they made it through the first day here than that they made it through without any disasters (because there were inevitably some disasters). It's due to this feeling of relief that also letting his guard down a little bit: Strange has seemed slightly tired all day, but this is the first time he's allowing himself to look as damn tired as he feels. He yawns, covering his mouth, before wincing. Yeah, that's rude, good job buddy. "Terribly sorry," he half-heartedly apologizes to whoever's next to him.

Good luck trying to get Strange's attention during reading and contemplation because he's found a nice armchair, picked the books that looked like they'd be the closest thing to books about magic, and is settled down to read. He's not moving. He's got a stack of books, an armchair, and everybody's quiet. This is amazing and he's taking full advantage of this. Occasionally, he'll take notes in his little notebook that he brought along. Even rarer, he'll frown slightly, looking down at his book, and complain to whoever's near him: "You're in my light."
It's much easier to get Strange's attention during card games, especially since he flits from table to table for the whole session. This is just to vary up his opponents, it's certainly not to keep tabs on everybody and see who's in danger of cracking first! So don't mind him as he walks up to anybody who looks a little lost, confused, aggravated, or alone, and says, with a nod, "I do know a variant of poker that can be played with two people, if you wish."

At all times, Strange will be making very decisive movements with regards to eating, talking to people, walking, and so forth, so that if anyone's watching him, they'll know what to copy and what movements are just Strange flapping his arms about. All in all, he's weirdly well-behaved and it's easy to see that he's been doing some of these things (table manners, sitting quietly and watching performances, stupid party games) for his whole life.
During free times, he'll be out in the parlor area or other open areas, visible for anyone who wants to bother him about etiquette, ask how exactly something works, or complain about the stupid party games. Just ignore the fact that he occasionally stares out of a window, into this realm's darkness, with a slightly worried look on his face. He's fine! A+ coping up in this joint!

To no one's surprise, the negotiations seem to be going south. Strange doesn't really know what to make of this information, just that it's something the nightrunners and some of the supervisors should know, if only to plan for what would happen next.
So, any time during the day, Strange tries to take advantage of any opportunity that he can get a word with one of the nightrunners or one of the other supervisors alone. He'll linger near the end of the group as they move from place to place, he'll walk up to someone as they exit the croquet lawn, he'll approach them with an apologetic nod during tea time or evening drinks.
"I hate to bother you, but might I have a word? Alone?"
For any nightrunners (or Childermass) he's unable to catch on their own during the day, Strange scrawls a little note on the linked maps he created: Stand by a mirror sometime early this night. I've something to tell you.

He kind of liked the tour if only for the obvious information it gave away. Everything was rather royal and he liked the tones of the atmosphere even though he was sure for many that it would be either daunting or intimidating. It reminded him a little of home for other reasons but it wouldn't be the same without his family. Social standing never meant much to him other than the perks and what he could accomplish with it.
They are shown to their rooms and Tyki will linger outside of his room for a moment to watch the rest of the carnival residents filter into their rooms. He's intentionally waiting and spotting which rooms are occupied by who. It's mostly for a few certain people he'd rather not hunt down at night. He'd rather know their location now.
After that it is entering, unpacking what little he brought with him, letting a few of his Tease out into the room especially the one ordered to deliver messages for his mailbox, getting settled and conversing with his roommate until curfew. He won't go far if he leaves his room. Not tonight.
[Day 171 - Tea Time/Free Time]
Tea time was easy and anyone that needed an example could stick near him or at least pay attention to what he was doing. He'll greet those that interact with him especially when he enters the room. Then there was the matter of picking a low enough chair where he could relax with his arms up and settle a napkin into his lap. Tea came first and he'd add a small bit of sugar but not lemon. He knows better than to have both. He would not use milk and he'd only use three fingers at all times given his standing as a proper Lord.
Savories first given it was Low Tea/Afternoon Tea, scones next and sweets last. He'd start with the small sandwiches.
During the free time later he might roam through the hallways for anyone he knows or at least seek entrance to more recreational places like the library, quiet corners or listen to the radio for anyone talking. He had given all his candy to someone else and he'll idly finger a cigarette in his pocket as he looks for somewhere decent to smoke. He knows he won't find one but there was always a possibility he could find the proper place.

Early in their stay, everybody gets to experience a whirlwind tour... and whirlwind fittings. Really, the efficiency with which the tailors work is mind-boggling, and Papyrus is pretty visibly astonished by it.
Once they're finished, he's arrayed in the required fancy clothes for the stay. The new outfits vary a bit from day to day, but they'll generally be bulky up top, emphasizing his shoulders, while being remarkably tight on re-shaped legs. Not the best for making him look as human as possible... but at least legs are out of sight at meal times.
Reading Radio
Papyrus makes a radio announcement (media comm) during free time! People who don't sleep, or have difficulty sleeping, tune in.
People who happen to be in or near the library while he's making this announcement... sure, he stepped into the hall to make it, but his voice carries. Maybe let him know before any of the servants shush him.

Days 171-173. also borrowing strange's idea.
What he wasn't prepared for was the undergarments. Holy hell, the undergarments. He's never worn a corset before, believe it or not, but he was already committed, and it was a little too late to back down once he was informed he'd have to wear one; his poor, pudgy body is awfully squished inside of it, but he's not a quitter, unless it's convenient or more fun to quit, or pretty much he's just in the mood for it. At any rate, he sets his mind to spending at least one entire day in that fine gown, and he's going to do it.
Despite the underwear situation, Taako makes it to and participates in all the daily activities fine; he's actually a very talented archer, given his race's inborn talent with them and his past need for practical weapons (there was a time when he couldn't recall being a wizard, after all, and he had to defend himself somehow then.) It only takes him a few tries to start nailing it, firing right down the center of the targets; the first time it happens, he reacts with as much surprise as anyone, but by the third time, he switches to giving whoever's nearby a smug nod of his head, grinning from ear to ear.
"That's how we do!"
During charades and pass the slipper, he mostly minds his manners, slipping off only momentarily to talk with Foster instead of playing the games; he barely knows how to play the latter in the first place, though he gets surprisingly into charades when it's his turn. He manages to resist the urge to use Polymorph when it's his turn to act; he can't help but feel like he'd get in trouble for that.
Still, seeing a fully grown elf in a full-length gown act like a cat on all fours is probably not something anyone here expected to see, especially with the enthusiasm he gives it.
The next day, Taako noticeably opts for more masculine look today; it's literally only because he definitely needs a day off with no corset, as he's pretty sure that thing broke his fucking ribs.
Reading and contemplation is... well, it's something, anyway. It's nice to have some peace and quiet, though he can't help but feel a little bit antsy, given the place they're in, the eyes on him. He mostly pretends to be reading and listens, eyes peering over the edge of his book and ears picked up, trying to take in any unusual activity. If you watch him, however, you may catch him accidentally pretending to read a book that's upside down in his hands...
When it comes to card games, Taako isn't great at most of them, but he's a star at poker. Who knew that somebody who spends most of his time lying and hiding his emotions would be such an expert poker player?
... that said, the fact that Foster is the one sitting beside him at the table should be warning enough to anyone else who joins them that maybe this table isn't the best one to play at. If you're looking for an easy game, maybe steer clear of Team Low Empathy. It seems they've just finished up a round, and Taako is gleefully stacking his chips, even though the game is over and he's about to have to return them to the pile.
"I hope you people never play this for, like, actual money."
On the third day, he's right back in dresses again, this time showing up for riding practice in a slick black riding habit and top hat. Given both his personality and dressing habits, and the world from which he originates being what it is, he's pretty familiar with horseback riding, both sidesaddle and otherwise; honestly, he may be able to help out others who are less experienced. He's not terribly showy about it, for once, given his riding experience has been purely practical instead of for shows, but it's pretty obvious that he's experienced in how easily he's able to take to it, even riding a strange horse he's never met before.

DREAM QUEST | Nights of Day 171 & 172
Suffice to say, while in the Manor, Steven is all three of these things, nigh constantly. The first night in Heartstone he barely sleeps at all, too shallow and fitful to dream.
The next night, only sheer exhaustion makes it possible. Curled up in his bed with Bud and Lil (and Lapis?!), he passes out more than he falls asleep. Paranoia has been haunting his thoughts every moment since they arrived, so having it finally just shut off for a while is a relief. Of course, his dreams don't exactly offer much respite.
Which is most of what makes Steven half-lucidly decide to make a break for it. In some nebulous tall grass outside of a vaguely familiar building, he finds himself having stepped in a now-smushed Watermelon Steven, its juicy watermelon insides exposed to the afternoon sun.
"Oh geez..."
Giving it a baffled and disapproving look, he abruptly floats up into the air and begins flying away. It's really just that simple.
"Nuh uh. No way. Not interested!"
Solidly dismissing the potential of a smashed watermelon focused stress-dream, he finds himself sailing off into dreamscapes uncertain. He has a lot on his mind, and a lot to think about, and he's only vaguely controlling his destinations.
Sometimes you'd just rather be anywhere else.

Okay, well, they’re outside, so that’s a start. Better than it could be.
However, even after being told the rules, Ginko seems… kind of unsure of how to actually go about playing this game. Or maybe he just feels like there must be more to this that he is inevitably missing and about to fuck up.
Either way, he honestly kind of sucks at it. Is he not paying attention or is he just bad at yard games? It’s— actually, it’s probably both. Just saying.
Archery
Ginko, for all the time he’s spent in the wilderness, has basically never actually wielded a weapon. Specifically, in this case, he’s never touched a bow before, and feels like a bit of an idiot trying to handle it.
Despite that, though, he’s actually not doing too badly; it’s taken him some fumbling to get the hang of actually handling the bow and arrows, but, once he’s worked it out, his accuracy isn’t too bad.

Miko may not know a lot about this place’s specific rules, but she understands how the basics with things like this usually work. Stay still, be quiet, do what you’re told, and so on. The problem is, she… kind of hates doing all those things. She moved to Nevada to minimize how many people would know her and her parents and therefore expect her to do those things.
Apparently, boring rules are inescapable.
To her credit, she does more or less try to stick to the rules. Mostly. She’s not throwing food or yelling out complaints for the whole world to hear, at least. But… she’s definitely spending a lot of time fidgeting with her dress, and she will definitely complain quietly and discreetly to anyone who will listen.

Childermass doesn't have much to pack, naturally. He has brought along the nicer clothing he had for his magician acts, as they fell into the styles he was familiar with in his own time, which, in turn, fits into here more or less, but the Prince's seamstresses are still quick to supply even more, so it's not like he'll be wanting for something different to wear each day. Similarly, much like when he had to put on a show, he's made an effort to not look scruffy or worn. It's annoying, but he'll live.
Once they have a bit of free time to settle in their rooms, though, it's more likely to run into him without a servant bothering him about clothing or about this or that. He paces along the hallway of the guest wing, pausing briefly at each open door he manages to find and taking a look in.
If he's caught at it, he'll give a nod and a quiet 'hello', but for the most part, he's trying to memorize who's staying where and — more importantly — where he might be able to use the shadows to travel between them. He will stay and chat if anyone bothers to inquire further, of course.

"A shame I didn't take a deck from the Celebration," Childermass says, discarding a few cards for several new ones in a hand. Poker is a fine game, sure, and one he's probably winning at right now, but he hadn't minded the game he had learned way back then, for all the other bad memories he has attached to that particular stop.
"They had ones for games from another world there. I think it would have fit in fine with the Prince's tastes and not really all that far off from what we're playing now."

There were countless times in his Noah life that he had to wait around for his own mission or assassination list given to him by the Earl. He could wait patiently if he actually wanted to. He wouldn't go further than this room tonight seeing as he didn't know the layout past the rooms occupied by carnival members.
By the time Childermass returns there will be a deck of cards scattered at his feet, a couple of apples and a pair of handcuffs around his wrists. Don't ask. Just go with it.

Days 170-172
Hinawa tries not to seem too nervous as they arrive, but it's hard not to dwell on all the rules and warnings that come with this visit. Still, she knows she's not the only one who might be apprehensive, so she's on the lookout for anyone who seems even the slightest bit upset.
"Everything all right? Do you want to talk?"

When it's time to retire for the evening, Hinawa feels relieved. Sure, this was only the start of everything, but a good night's sleep would undoubtedly help to weather it!
And then she walked into her room and found a man in there. "Oh. Er. I think I may be in the wrong room."
C: Archery
You know what happens when you help run a sheep farm and raise twin boys? You end up with relatively strong arms. She's never held a bow before, but that doesn't hinder her from pulling the string back with relative ease and sending an arrow flying well over the target. It's a good thing no one was standing back there.
"Oh... should I go get it back?"
D: Horses!
At last! Something Hinawa is familiar with! She's beaming as the horses are trotted out, and eventually settles on a light chestnut colored horse- wait, no it's roan- actually now it's purple? A multi-colored horse with a gentle temperament.
Of course, her own hooved feet are going to prove troublesome when it comes to stirrups, but before any of the servants can assist her, Hinawa leads her steed over to a nearby fence that she proceeds to climb in order to give herself some height. She swings one leg over the horse's back and sits astride, her bustle and petticoats all bunched up behind her.

the first night; closed to lauren
The castle looked kinda cool, at least, when they'd gotten a tour, and he tried to not complain about anything and just go along with it for now... Although that was a bit hard when he realized that he wouldn't be staying with his brother, but with someone else. He knew objectively that Lauren could take care of himself, that everything would be okay... But that's what he thought before the vampires, too.
As soon as he realized he'd be forced away from Lauren he told Fluff to go with his older brother instead of staying with him, so that he could at least keep an eye on him. But of course as soon as he got into his room he only waited a few minutes before turning his radio on right to his brother's channel.

[Syrlya's realized that if you keep your mouth shut and your expression carefully neutral, it's very easy to fake your way through this. He knows how to not draw attention to himself, so he's largely kept to the sidelines of the activities--participating enough to not trigger any of the servant's concern, but distant enough he can keep an eye on his fellow carnival members. Lambert, after all, tasked the nightrunner's with making sure there was no trouble.
Really, the only way to fail tea time is rudeness, but most of the member's edge has been obvious. So if someone seems nervous, lost, or anxious, he'll get up from the table to come up beside them and gesture them towards it.]

[Most of the card games aren't terribly far off from some of the ones found in Tyria, and when you're in bunkers or tents with a bunch of soldiers card games are one of the few activities you can carry with you. So Syrlya picks up on the rules quickly.
There's no betting for poker, whether it's because there's nothing to bet or because the Prince finds it uncivilized, but Syrlya still has his expression schooled in passive indifference as he discards and retrieves cards in turn.
And yet somehow he keeps losing. The fact he can hardly win a game doesn't seem to phase him, and he always waves it off with a smile about how terrible at it he must be before he turns away the group, absently swirling the wine in his glass as he turns his attention to the bar.
He's chosen the table as close to it as possible, watching the servants that man it and anyone who goes back and forth for a drink.
Especially those who go back and forth for too many drinks.]
